Trouble launching 3.9; data file compatibility between 3.8 and 3.9

Can someone tell me why the app store version of one password constantly closes itself!

No matter what the settings it closes as soon as I open it.

the time I have spent in recent weeks on one password troubleshooting is just not funny any more

It also seems to be never updated!

these software drives me nuts.

the app Store version does not work and constantly closes, so I trash it and download the normal version which I also have multiple licenses for to replace app store version however when opening it tells me the new data format is not compatible with version 3

the app Store version is version is 3.9.0 and the downloaded full version is 3.8.8

so it seems like I can't even switch back to the sort of working full version

    Hey duke22,

I'm sorry that you are having these problems. We are always happy to help, but please keep the language "family friendly". <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

The first issue sounds like the one that is covered in our Mac App Store FAQ:

Sometimes the 1Password Helper will not be able to start because of a configuration issue on a small number of machines. If this happens, when 1Password launches, you will be asked to create a new database and will be unable to see your existing data.

This problem is caused by extended attributes defined on particular file which is part of your OS X account. You can run this command in Terminal (in your /Applications/Utilities folder) to resolve this:
chmod -N /var/db/launchd.db/com.apple.launchd.peruser.`id -u`/overrides.plist
Secondly, the Agile Keychain Format can be read by 1Password 2, 1Password 3 (all versions), and 1Password for Windows. Any data created in 3.8 can be read by 3.9 and vice versa. It sounds like there may be a very old data file from before the current format which is being detected by 1Password. Could you post a screenshot of the error you are getting that says the data format is not compatible with version 3?
