Main MAS Mac App not showing updates from iPhone or iPad through Dropbox

ChrisG
edited October 2011 in 1Password 3 for Mac
Hello.

Any changes I make on my iPad or IPhone are not showing up in my main MAS 1Password App, however, the main Mac App changes appear almost immediately on the i devices. It appears that the syncs are only 1 way from the main App. I can see the changed files appearing in my Dropbox files while the website is open and even Growl tells me of the Dropbox changes from the i devices. But, those i device changes never appear in the Main App.

Thoughts?.

Edit

Appears to be similar to MAS app not loading keychain properly thread below...

Further...

All changes (3-way) appeared ok after complete shutdown and reboot. So, keychain file not dynamically updating to MAS App while open or mac awake or mac awake from sleep. Sandbox?

These apps are of almost no use to me unless seamless 3-way updates work. I previously had no issues with the non-MAS versions. is there a money-back guarantee?

  • Chris, welcome to the forums. Sorry about the trouble you're having! The changes you make on your iDevices should appear in 1Password for Mac. Some customers did experience a problem with Dropbox sync in general with the MAS version of 1Password, but in their case it wasn't working at all due to the absence of a required configuration file. In your case, the sync is working, but only one way. I haven't seen this before and don't have an immediate answer for you, but I'll consult the team and see what I can find out.

We absolutely have a money-back guarantee for software purchased from our own store, but we can make no such guarantee for software purchased from the Mac App Store or the iTunes App Store. In that case, you will need to contact Apple for a refund.
  • Okay, so, Stu helped me understand what might be going on here. Since you're seeing Growl notifications for the new items on your Mac, the data file in your Dropbox is getting updated. That's great, you're halfway there. The problem is those changes aren't making it back to 1Password for Mac, which sounds like 1Password Helper isn't doing his job. In theory, if you restart Helper, these new items should appear in 1Password. Could you please give this a try?

    1. Quit your web browser.

    2. Run 1Password and click 1Password > Preferences > Extensions.

    3. Uncheck "Keep helper running to enable extension features" and then quit 1Password.

    4. Reopen 1Password and then check "Keep Helper running to enable extension features".

    5. Restart your web browser.
  • On the road now...will try this tomorrow when home. Standby.
  • Your solution above seems to work fine so far. New entries on imac now showing up immediately on ipad through Dropbox. Thank You

Awesome. On behalf of Nik, you are quite welcome! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

I'm glad things are working well. If we can be further assistance, please let us know.

We are always here to help!
  • Spoke too soon, back again as previously stated in now-locked thread I started earlier. Any other suggestions.
  • Sorry, Chris, I re-opened that thread for you. Just to confirm, the problem (again) is that changes on your Mac are synced to your iDevices, but changes made on your iDevices are not appearing on your Mac, correct? And restarting the Helper application (again), as outlined above, is not fixing the problem for you?
  • Correct.

Works OK from iDevices to iMac only after shutdown & reboot. Seems to only work on iMac when keychain is forced to reload.

Are you looking in the browser extension or the main 1Password application to confirm this? There may be an issue with the browser extension, so let's focus on getting the data in the main application first.

Please try the steps in this support article:

    http://support.agilebits.com/kb/syncing/why-doesnt-1password-on-my-mobile-device-see-my-data-file-in-dropbox

And then reset Dropbox syncing on your iOS device(s):

    1Password > Settings > Sync > Dropbox > Account > Reset

I hope that helps. Please let me know.

I have no problems in any way with the App's iphone/ipad/dropbox functionality. They all work fine. The problem is the Mac app. I have done all your suggestions to no avail. The only way I can make the MAS Mac app stay current on a 3-way sync with dropbox (dropbox is not the issue for me or it's location) and my devices is to do a full shutdown and reboot of my iMac each time I have changed something on the iphone or ipad. This seems to force the main app to sync with dropbox again. I can see all the Mac app changes happening immediately into dropbox and my idevices, but not making it back the other way without a reboot.

    I don't want a workaround, I want a fix.

I decided to give this app another shot from SplashID and purchased the MAS app after already purchasing and then abandoning 1Password previously due to a lack of data types. I figured there must be something I am missing because the app is rated so highly. Wrong. Has potential but improvements are deathly slow and idevice apps not mirroring the Main app capability are not cutting it for me. I see SplashID back in my immediate future if you cant get this fixed in days. The MAS app with Lion was nowhere near ready for deployment. You've taken the cash and we deserve what was sold to us.

    Getting very impatient...

    Hey Chris,

I'm sorry that you are still having trouble. This should obviously not be happening, and I have to say that I've not seen a single other report like this one. I'm confident that we can get things working for you, though, if you are willing to let us help you. Please give this a try:

Quit the 1Password application first, then using Apple's Finder, please choose the Go > Go to Folder menu item and in the resulting dialog enter this string:
~/Library/Containers/com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper/Data/Library/Caches
In the Finder window that opens, drag the 1Password folder to your Trash.

Now run the 1Password application and see if the "missing" items appear in their appropriate vault.

If you are still having trouble, to help us track down the issue more quickly could you please produce a 1Password Diagnostics Report? To generate the report you'll need to download an item using this link:

    http://cdn.agilebits...bleshooting.zip

This is the 1Password Troubleshooting application. It's in zip format, so after downloading it your browser may have expanded it for you, or you may need to do so by double-clicking on it using the Finder. You should end up with the 1Password Troubleshooting application -- ready to run. You can move it to any location you normally keep software, or leave it where it is for a quick run.

Launch the 1Password Troubleshooting application and you should see some tabs near the top of the window. Please click on the Diagnostics Report tab heading, and then click on the "Create Report" button. Within a few seconds, a pretty blue image should appear -- indicating the report is ready (this is just like the Diagnostics Report option in prior versions of 1Password for Mac). There's now an Export button you can use to save the report and then attach attach the entire file to an email to support@agilebits.com.

Please include a link to this thread in order that we might more quickly "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, though.

I'm hoping that resolves it, otherwise, I look forward to reviewing your Diagnostics Report. Once we see the report we should be able to help more. Thank you in advance!
  • No, they do not appear. I know Dropbox has the data because of growl and new entries made on the ipad/iphone appear on each other immediately after reloading the apps.

Clearing the cache you mention above seems to do nothing. There is nothing in the ~/Library/Containers/com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper/Data/Library/Caches except the 1Password sub and the file named default-datafile.cache. This subdirectory and file are re-created after a shutdown & reboot with the same date/time stamp as the reboot, size 226kb.

    Will try the traoubleshooter next.

    Hey Chris,

We received your Diagnostics Report on October 21 and Jeff replied to you the same day. I just wanted to make sure you had received his email reply. Please take your time in replying to his email. I was just concerned that perhaps it was captured by robots (or a more traditional spam filter). <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

    Cheers,
  • I am having exactly the same problem, but only with iPassword MAS Mac App. I have the regular 1Password running on other Macs (Snow Leopard) and they work fine. It is only on my OSX Lion machines with iPassword MAS that I have the problem.

New accounts entered from iPad 1Password are not showing up in iPassword MAS Mac App until I reboot my Mac. I've tried clearing the cache as suggested and this had no effect.

    Hey mfoster96,

Sorry to hear you are also having trouble. Could you confirm that the problem is still occurring with the 1Password 3.9.1 update?

Been away for a bit & couldn't update...sorry. Updatind to MAS 391 as we speak. standby
  • Same problem initially with 391. When I hit clear cache on the new help menu, though, the ipad entry i had made a few minutes earlier appeared instantly. Still testing.. was able to repeat this behavior. here is where I am at the moment:

    1 Make entry on ipad, does not appear on imac;

    2 Make entry on Mas app, appears OK on iPad;

    3 Shutdown MAS App, restart app, ipad entry still not there;

4 Clear MAS 1P cache & ipad entry appears instantly.

In a troubleshooting email to me you mentioned clearing conflicted sync conflicts. I have a half-dozen conflicts in my keychain data file. You also mention a conflict solver through Help>Tools that does not exist in the MAS app. Maybe it is on the non-MAS app. Other than disabling the dropbox location temporarily, doing a wifi sync and then re-enabling dropbox, I do not see any way for me to initiate a conflict resolution. I had done this previously as part of one of your posts above and selected Mac as priority. It did not fix things.
