HELP! uh oh, something very very bad happened

Hi,

I use 1password for all kind of data. I use it in conjunction with dropbox. Here what happened. Somehow I moved the 1Password.agilekeychain file into a different folder. Than a script I run on that folder tried to open it and failed. I noticed the issue and moved the file back to where I thought it had been. The "top level" in dropbox.

I opened 1password and 1password could not find it (new user or where is the file?). I manually selected the file and got an error message from 1password. "Not valid 1password file or damaged. By now I'm getting restless.

Ah but wait through the web interface of dropbox I can restore older versions of the file. Log into dropbox. There it lists the file as a folder (weird?) and NO previous versions button available!

Now I'm in panic mode! Is there any way to go back and fix the issue? Did I pick the wrong file? Is there something I did wrong with dropbox. Is there another copy stored somewhere? Of course time machine does NOT work since I exclude it from the backup (since dropbox can retrieve old version or I thought!) STUPID I know, my behind is hurt from all the kicking.

I still have the data on my iPad. Which would sync through dropbox but I just won't open it!

I really would prefer to save the computer file since I have scans which seem to be missing in the iPad version. If that is not possible how could I retrieve at least the iPad library?

PLEASE send help <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' /> THANKS,

Philly

  • OK after some digging at dropbox, I found this link

    https://www.dropbox.com/help/11

I then retrieved the cache of dropbox and there seems to be all kinds of 1password files and links and.... So now I have a better feeling. I still need to know what I need to do now.

    Please help,

    Phillyman
  • I'd be in a panic, too! While you're waitin' for a Mod. to show up, open your 1Password App on your computer. Go to File > Restore Back Up from Data and you'll see a list of back ups, which have been done according to how often you have it set. I'm not saying to do this! But it's a place to look, and you could read about it in Help, perhaps.

Whew! THANKS macrina, never even checked. There are lots of backups in there. I did a restore and it worked! Only missing one note which I remember <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

It again shows to first read the manual before you cry wolf. Mods my problem is solved!

After my heart rate is back down from racing I would like to REALLY thank Macrina! You saved my poor nerves from a very bad start to the week! I know the moderators would have gotten to me quickly but this was quicker and better!

    Thanks a million,

    Philly
  • Thank you for helping out Philly, Macrina! Philly, I'm glad you got your data restored. It's true that Dropbox can also restore data, but—maybe it's just me—I find the process kind of confusing, especially when dealing with folders instead of files. I find 1Password's built-in option much simpler to use. =)
  • I partly agree. Certainly the 1password option is the easiest IF you know about it <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' /> ! The dropbox option isn't exactly consumer friendly and not well publicized but I have used it successfully over time BUT only for single files. It seems to me that folders cannot be retrieved. Though it seems like it's possible for you. But that would be a question for the dropbox forum <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
  • You're welcome, Nik and Phillyman! Later I worried that I'd overstepped some boundaries, but it seems not. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/emoticon-0131-angel.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='(angel)' />
  • Not at all, Macrina! That's why we have these community forums, so everybody can help each other. Our toes are just fine, thank you for caring. =)
  • My toes are very very happy <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' /> I agree with Nik, the forums are here EXACTLY for this reason. Otherwise I would only contact tech support through email. This way they have less work and I get helper faster <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />

    Again thanks
  • Thank You! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/emoticon-0128-hi.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='(hi)' />
