Dropbox syncing versus storing backups in Dropbox

Tristan
edited October 2011 in 1Password 3 for Mac
Hi,

I just noticed while trying to get my iPad to sync through dropbox that 1Password on my mac has actually not been syncing through dropbox since I upgraded to version 3.9. Even though its set to backup to dropbox, it still backups the files locally.

Is there anyway to fix this?

Thanks! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

  • The MAS version is now sandboxed and MacOS only allows access to folders outside the sandbox for which the app has requested permission in advance. Dropbox syncing can only be used if the dropbox folder is in the default location (~/Dropbox). If you move the folder back to that location using the dropbox client you will see that the "Use dropbox" button in the settings is available again and when you click it the db will be moved there.

To be sure I would make a backup of the version in your dropbox and the one that is in use by the mac app first (you can find that under ~/Library/Containers/com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper (if its hidden just open a terminal, cd into it and then do an "open .")
  • My 1password folder is in ~/Dropbox. But when I make a manual backup to test it still stores the data locally. Also does it store the data in 1Password.agilekeychain or in the 1password folder like this "1Password 2011-10-12 152109 (314 items).agilekeychain_zip"?

    Thanks!
  • The one with zip is a backup I think and according to what I read it indeed makes the backup locally and not in the dropbox. The actual active one is the one that says activekeychain.

The backups are local backups by default. You could move your backup folder to a location inside your Dropbox folder if that was important to you, but this is not needed for Dropbox syncing.

If you are having trouble with Dropbox syncing on your iOS device, please try resetting it on your iOS device within the 1Password app:

    1Password > Settings > Sync > Dropbox > Account > Reset

It sounds like everything is set up properly for Dropbox syncing on your machine. 1Password.agilekeychain should be in the top level of your Dropbox folder. If so, you are all set. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
