Will their be a route backwards?

It's clear that a certain number of users have experienced issues with 3.9 since it was released and not everybody is entirely happy about being locked into MAS for perfectly understandable reasons.

Many of us made a leap of faith in purchasing the upgrade since we don't have a single detail of what version 4 will be like or when it will be released. Given that MAS offers no demo versions what kind of route backwards would be available if a user decided they really didn't like version 4 when it is released? How could they go back to 3.9 or 3.8?

Comments

  • Just save your keychain file and delete 1password-MAS and reinstall 1password 3.8.x.

    That's what I did, I haven't had any problems.

1Password 3.8 is still available for download from our website. If you already have a license from the AgileBits store, you are all set. If you only have a license from the MAS, you will need one from us to run 3.8 beyond the trial period. Please contact us and attach your MAS receipt if you need further assistance in this regard. (Be sure to make the support discussion private.) We would be happy to help!
  • Hi Khad,

I upgraded from 3.8 to 3.9 so I have both licenses and I'm hoping version 4 will be great but as you know I've been having problems with 3.9, so I wanted to know if there was a route backwards. Assuming 3.9 will soon be fixed it would be good if there is an option inside MAS or via Agile to go back to that if a user doesn't like 4 for whatever reason.

    Thanks

I was using 1Password 2 in Lion the other day. Browser extensions for current browsers are not available for 1Password 2 since it has not been updated for a couple years, but all the data is still available in the application.

I'm completely guessing here, but once 1Password 4 is available, 1Password 3 may end up being a bit like 3.5 has been for Leopard users. We supported a few more browser releases after we switched development efforts to Snow Leopard and Lion, but is has not received the same attention as the current version.

That said, the field is also a bit different now since the new extension is much more [s]future-proof[/s] future-resistant(?) than the old extensions ever were. By way of example, the current Firefox extension works in Firefox version 6 up through 9. It will likely work in Firefox 10 just fine as well, but that hasn't been created yet. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Only time will tell. The biggest factor may prove to be the browser landscape. Otherwise, you should have no problem simply accessing your information in an older version of 1Password.

    Again, this is all speculation about a future time after 1Password 4 is released. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
