Prompts to save already existing passwords.

I KNOW I have saved my Username/Password for a particular URL. Why do I get prompted to save it again? It has me doubt what I have done.

And isn't this one of the main issues 1Password is meant to address?: NOT have me question whether or not I have saved U/P info?

It did not used to do this, so that fact that it happens now is frustrating.

Is there a setting somewhere? I really want this to work!

Many thanks for all your work.

ALSO: when will the option to save a new entry AND tag it be back? That was really useful.

  • I get that a few times a day myself. Safari remembers the login info, 1P seems to forget. Certainly not as reliable as it used to be. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

I've been having the exact same problem forever. Thank goodness someone else posted this, I thought I was going cuckoo. No matter how many times I save the same password over and over, with the same URL on the same computer, it never fails to ask if I'd like to save the password. Again. I have about 5 duplicate entries for some of my websites. Any help or insight is much appreciated!
  • Perhaps they rename it to "once in a while password." This doesn't seem to be a problem with financial institution websites so it's still good for those but for day to day websites I use it just keeps asking to save the login info.

    Hey folks,

Sorry for the trouble. Have you already disabled Safari's AutoFill for user names and passwords as outlined in the User Guide?

    http://help.agilebits.com/1Password3/extension_autofill.html

Please let me know. I'd love to get this resolved for you.

    Thanks!

I have had auto fill disabled for a while now, and 1Password still asks to save previously saved logins, every time!

Welcome to the discussion, Polimon. This is very strange indeed.

I just started seeing a couple of folks with the issue in our inbox as well. I'm wondering what has changed lately that would trigger this for several different users at the same time. We've not updated the extension recently enough that it coincides with the reports of the problem.

Can you confirm for me that you are seeing the autosave prompt when filling a Login using the 1Password button in Safari's toolbar? I am presuming that is the issue, but I just want to make sure you are not referring to something else.

Can you also tell me if starting with 1Password locked or unlocked makes a difference?

    Thanks!

No. What I'm referring to is when I manually fill in my username & password on a site, out of old habit or whatever, and I know it's a site that is in 1Password's database, but 1Password pops up and asks if I want to save the login, even though it's already saved. Happens all the time.

    Thanks for following up, Polimon! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

So the issue doesn't arise if you actually use 1Password to fill the Login?

And please do let me know if it the behavior is different depending on whether 1Password is locked or unlocked.

The issue does not arise when I use 1Password to fill the login. It happens when I log in manually, both with 1Password locked and unlocked.

Thanks for the additional information. We are not able to reproduce this in our labs. I am wondering what is different in your setup.

If you are manually logging in, I take it you did not use the password generator to create your passwords. If so, you have a much better memory than anyone I have ever met. What do you need 1Password for? <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' /> (I kid! I kid!)

For now, the obvious workaround would be to use 1Password as it was intended to be used: to log in to your sites, but I would love to get to the bottom of this.

Do you have any passwords saved in Safari for the site(s) where you see this happen? (Even though you said Safari's AutoFill for user names and passwords is disabled.) Do you do any regular clearing of Safari's information (Safari > Reset Safari…) which results in seeing the 1Password welcome page/getting started guide?
