Master Password reset or start over
I've had 1Password on my iPhone, iPad and Windows laptop for a few months but have not used it much. I now do not recall the master password and am locked out. I noticed on one of the other forums a suggestion was made to another person who had master passrod issues that if the person could not restore to a prior point or ultimately remember the master password, the person would have to start over. Is it possible to "reset" my license and let me start fresh?

Hey dcis,
Your master password does not have to be the same between 1Password for Mac/Windows and your 1Password iOS app(s). Many users like to have a less-complicated one for 1Password iOS apps because of the interaction using the much smaller virtual keyboard. Because they do not have to be the same, they are never synced from one device/platform to another.
Starting over is a bit different for each platform, so I will provide the information for each. The short version is:
Windows: Go to File > New 1Password Data Folder from the menu bar in 1Password.
iOS: Remove the app from your device and then re-download it from the App Store.
Details follow.
Mac and Windows
For your privacy and security, your master password is known only by you. We cannot reset it for you and you cannot change it without entering the old one. There is also no "back door" to access your data without the master password. If there were, that would be a security hole that criminals could exploit to steal your information.
If you think you know what the password is, but it is not being accepted, please see the tips in this guide:
Mac: http://help.agilebits.com/1Password3/forgot_password.html
Windows: http://help.agilebits.com/1Password_Windows/forgot-mp.html
Please try each tip, for we have found them to be the most common causes of this problem. If you cannot remember the password, you will need to restore from a backup or start over. Both of these steps are documented in the guide.
If you've really never stored anything in your 1Password data file then starting over is really easy -- but you'll want to make sure and provide a good "password hint" so you don't forget the master password again.

Your master password is used to encrypt all your confidential information for each item that has the master password enabled; without this password the data in these items cannot be recovered. Your 1Password master password is known only by you, and we cannot reset it for you; if we could, that would be a security hole that criminals could use to steal your data.
If you cannot remember the password, you will need to reset your master password. Make sure you're using the latest version of 1Password on your iOS device and then navigate to More > Settings > Security and tap Reset Master Password. Note that any entries that were previously protected by the master password will be permanently lost.
If you reset the database there are a few ways to retrieve your data after the reset:
* If you've been using Dropbox to sync your data with 1Password for Mac or Windows, just set up Dropbox syncing again, and your data will start syncing to your iPhone automatically. Please see this guide for instructions:
http://help.agilebits.com/1Password3/cloud_syncing_with_dropbox.html
* If you've previously sync'ed your 1Password data with 1Password for Mac using Wi-Fi, you can easily restore your data during the next Wi-Fi sync:
http://help.agilebits.com/1Password_touch/sync_to_mac_manually.html
* If you've used the built-in "backup and restore" feature to save a backup copy of your 1Password data, you can use it again to restore that saved backup file. You can read more about our backup and restore option here:
http://help.agilebits.com/1Password_touch/backup.html

If you cannot remember the master password, you will need to delete the 1Password app from your iPad and start over. This will also delete all of your 1Password data from your iPad, but there are several ways you might be able to recover that data, after you reinstall the 1Password app:
* If you've been using Dropbox to sync your data with 1Password for Mac or Windows, just set up Dropbox syncing again in the reinstalled app, and your data will start syncing to your iPad automatically. Please see this guide for instructions:

Please note that you don't have to repurchase 1Password in order to reinstall the app, providing you're still using the same iTunes account that you used to purchase the app originally, then you will be able to download the current version for free. Unfortunately, it won't look like it's free until you choose to "buy" it and enter your password. You don't have to take our word for it, though. Here is Apple's official support document:

Are you guys going to add DB reset to the iPad app like the iPhone version has? It's kind of annoying to have to delete and redownload. Thanks!Flag 0 -
Thanks khad,
I'll start working on these. The iPhone reset worked great. Windows is next. I appreciate all the info. Hopefully others with the same problem will find this so you don't have to repeat it. You probably have it saved as a .txt file so you can copy and paste it for people like me. Anyway, I like the product and look forward to using it again.Flag 0 -

I'll mention this to the developers. I don't know of any specific plans at this time, but it could prove handy.
