1Password doesn't recognize username page Ally Bank

WinXP SP3, IE8. When going to Ally Bank sign in, there is a separate page for user name and password. The password page for Ally Bank is recognized, but not username page. After filling in the Ally username blank and hitting return, 1Password dialog box does not drop down, and does not acknowledge it as part of the login. Telling 1Password to save username does not work either, resulting in a 1Password entry that does not fill in the username blank when invoked. Other banks with separate username and password pages, such as Compass Bank, Edward Jones, etc. work fine. Any thoughts or solutions. I have had 1Password for about a month, and this is the first problem.

  • Dwight, welcome to the forum!

What's the exact URL of the forms you're trying to fill in?

(I'm not sure I'll be able to test without a valid username-password pair, but I'd like to give it a try.)
  • The URL is https://www.ally.com/login/auto/?message=auto-account
  • Interesting!

As you wrote, I had to ask 1Password to save a Login for that page; here's what it saved:

If you edit the "term" row and set the Value to your username and the Designation to Username, the updated Login item will work as expected, the next time you visit that page.

At least that'll get you going, while we look into what's happening.
  • I had already tried this just changing "value" and "designation" and it resulted in a login entry that would not fill in the username blank on the Ally username page. However, after looking at my other username logins, I found that changing "term" to "username" will make it work, and after saving the password page login (which it would always do), then 1Password would regognize both entries and allow normal login. BTW, when, if ever, is "auto-type" to be selected? And thanks for the help.

It's even easier just to check the user's guide: Using the auto-type feature

Someone spends a lot of time and energy trying to keep it up to date and a valuable resource. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Yeah, it's silly that that third change is necessary—you'd think the designation would be sufficient. Sorry I forgot to mention that change, along with the other two.
