Import Problems in 1Password 3.9.1

Hi,

I have a problem here:

I export the 1Password database from 1Password 3.8.10 (non MAS version) in 1Password interchange File but then I can't import this *.1pif file in 1Password 3.9.1 (MAS version).

Is this a knowing problem?

Second:

In 1Password 3.9.1 is the Item count missing like in 1Password 3.8.10

1Password 3.9.1 (MAS version):

1Password 3.8.10 (non MAS version).

    Hey Bernd,

Can you confirm that you have enabled the View > Show Item Counts option in 1Password 3.9.1? Also, I'm not aware of any import problem in 1Password 3.9.1. I exported all my data from 3.8 to a 1PIF (File > Export All > 1Password Interchange File) and then back into 3.9 with no trouble.

Could you outline the specific steps I could take to reproduce the problem in the labs here?

    Hi Khad,

    Sorry, with Item Counts was my error. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

    Second the import problem:

    I export the database from 1Password 3.8.10 to a 1PIF file. I File > Export All > 1Password Interchange File too.

    Export is no problem.

But import to 1Password 3.9.1 (MAS version). I clear the database in 1Password 3.9.1 (delete all items inside).

    Then I use File > Import > Import Format: 1Password Interchange File (.1pif) but nothings imported now. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_sadsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-(' />

I see shortly the beach ball from MacOS X 10.7.2 and import indicate close now. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_sadsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-(' />

    The database is always clear.

Please update to 1Password 3.9.2, restart your Mac, and let me know if you are seeing the same problem in the latest version.

I should also add that you don't need to export/import. You can simply double-click the data file in Finder to open it in 1Password.

    With 3.9.2 the problem is the same. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_sadsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-(' />

And there is a other problem with backup/restore:

When I make a backup in 1Password 3.9.2 File > Backup and clear database now and make then a restore with this backup, database is still clear.

The strange is: I can restore an automatically created backup.

Btw: How can I setup the number of backups? In 1Password 3.8.10 is an option backup counts, but not in 3.9.2.

I'm sorry for not mentioning this earlier, but your additional information makes me think the cache may need to be cleared. Please clear the cache in 1Password:

Help > Troubleshooting > Clear Cache
How can I setup the number of backups?
From the FAQ pinned at the top of this forum:
What happened to my backups?

1Password creates a daily backup of your information in the ~/Library/Containers/com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper/ directory. Up to 30 backups are kept at a time. This is not currently a user-configurable option.

If you are still having trouble, could you please produce a 1Password Diagnostics Report? To generate the report you'll need to download an item using this link:

    http://cdn.agilebits.com/dist/1P/mac/util/1Password%20Troubleshooting.zip

This is the 1Password Troubleshooting application. It's in zip format, so after downloading it your browser may have expanded it for you, or you may need to do so by double-clicking on it using the Finder. You should end up with the 1Password Troubleshooting application -- ready to run. You can move it to any location you normally keep software, or leave it where it is for a quick run.

Launch the 1Password Troubleshooting application and you should see some tabs near the top of the window. Please click on the Diagnostics Report tab heading, and then click on the "Create Report" button. Within a few seconds, a pretty blue image should appear -- indicating the report is ready (this is just like the Diagnostics Report option in prior versions of 1Password for Mac). There's now an Export button you can use to save the report. Then attach the entire file to an email to support@agilebits.com.

Please include a link to this thread in order that we might more quickly "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, though.

Once we see the report we should be able to help more. Thank you in advance!

    Very strange. I can use this program and create a report, but I can't save the report. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_sadsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-(' />

Export is impossible, show in Safari too.

    And drag & drop to Apple Mail it's impossible too. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_sadsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-(' />

I work at normal user, not at an Admin user.

    Console output:

    Ok, I found the problem.

In my user Library > Application Support folder was an 1Password folder with wrong permissions (only system can read/write).

I delete this folder and now can I export the report.

I send you the bug report now.

A little question: 1Password in Mac App Store version do not need the 1Password folder in user/Library/Application Support ?
  • khad
    khad Social Choreographer
That is correct. 1Password 3.9 stores all of its data in the application sandbox. It does not need anything in your ~/Library/Application Support/ folder. I can't think of why the "1Password Troubleshooting" app would need access there, but it is possible.

We will reply to your email as soon as we can!

As Khad mentioned, 1Password from the Mac App Store doesn't use the older version's 1Password folder in your OS X account's Application Support folder. However the 1Password Troubleshooting utility does need this, as this utility can be used for all versions of 1Password (so it's like a common denominator). If this folder doesn't exist it will be created but any OS X permissions restrictions will cause it to fail to do so — as you saw in your case. The 1Password Troubleshooting utility cannot just "override" your OS X permissions. That means the report cannot be shown or exported in cases like this because it actually never gets created.

I'll respond to you via email about your Diagnostics Report (thanks!).

    Ah, ok.

You should made a link on your website for 1Password Troubleshooting utility. It's hard to find it.

It's not what we would consider a publicly available application, so we only provide a link to it as needed for support purposes. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I did just that in my post above where you can find a link to the 1Password Troubleshooting application.

Please let me know if you need anything else.

    Cheers,
