Safari 1Password toolbar button displays red notification alert

This is an intermittent problem. I've had this in the past and it has gone away and now it's back so I figured I'd make a thread on it.

I get a notification alert icon on the 1Password toolbar button when I open up Safari:

Clicking on the button and selecting the yellow exclamation icon tells me there might be a problem with the 1Password Helper, but nothing more. Restarting the browser, unlocking the 1Password app and reinstalling the Safari extension doesn't seem to help.

I am running the following:

Mac OS X 10.7.2

Safari Version 5.1.1 (7534.51.22)

1Password Extension Version 3.8.7

1Password Helper Version 3.9.2 (39200.003)

UPDATE:

Just reinstalled the browser extension again. Seems to have gotten rid of the red notification now... *shrug*

    Hey sabrewolf,

I'm glad things are working well now. Thanks for the update! I moved this and your other thread into the correct Mac App Store forum since you are using 1Password 3.9 from the Mac App Store. The other forum is for 1Password 3.8 from our website. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

If the issue arises again, you can view the Troubleshooting Report which contains information on resolving the issue:

Seems like it's doing it again. This time I'm running:

    Mac OS X 10.7.3

    Safari version 5.1.3 (7534.53.10)

    Safari 1Password Browser Extension 3.8.9

    1Password version 3.9.4 (39400.005)

I reinstalled the browser extension yesterday to get rid of the error and now it's doing it again today. I'm reinstalling it again to get rid of it, but this is starting to get annoying!

    When you see this badge,

Open the 1Password app and enter your password. This will allow the app to sync with the extension.

This is especially true if you are not always running the helper app.

Under normal circumstances, you should never have to reinstall the browser extension. I'm sorry that you're having some more trouble. To help us track down the issue more quickly, could you please send us a Diagnostics Report?

Since you are using 1Password 3.9 (from the Mac App Store), you'll need to follow the instructions here:

    http://support.agilebits.com/kb/troubleshooting/create-a-diagnostics-report-to-help-agilebits-help-you

Then attach the entire file to an email to support AT agilebits.com.

Please include a link to this thread in order that we might more quickly "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, though.
  • I just finished uninstalling the extension again (4th time this week) before reading your diagnostic report request. I'll reinstall it again and when it happens again I'll send it to you. It appears that when I enable Private Browsing in Safari, it's triggering this issue.

Ok, just did it again. I'm sending the diagnostics report via email. This time no private browsing option was selected. Seems random now.

I missed this post. I have done this and the helper is checked off to be running. Problem persists.

    Hi,

Since we've communicated via emails and you have a few suggestions to do, we'll close this thread for now.

For anybody wondering, we've narrowed it down to using resetting Safari with the option "all website data" checked and/or using the private browsing mode in Safari. Either one will damage the extension's database and requires a couple of restarts of Safari to resolve. For now, unchecking "all website data" when resetting Safari will avoid this problem and also, turning off the private browsing mode before quitting Safari will prevent this error as well.
