"Agent Not Connected" with Chrome 16; multiple Chrome profiles not supported

edited December 2011 in Windows Beta
After not being able to get the extension working with Chrome 17, I downgraded to the latest version of Chrome 16 but the extension still can't connect to the agent. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Am I using the right version of Chrome?

Also, is there a post somewhere that clearly states the latest version of each browser that works with 1Password? This would be useful so I know which browser updates I can install.

Thanks!

P.S.: I'm running the latest 1Password, 1.0.9.250.

UPDATE: I upgraded to Chrome 16.0.912.63 and the issue remains.

Are you running AVG or NOD32 or any other anti-virus solution?

Please follow the steps in this document: http://support.agilebits.com/kb/browser-extensions/how-to-configure-your-proxy-server-or-internet-security-software-for-1password

I'm at work, so my machine is running McAfee Enterprise, but I had the extension working under a older build of Chromium - just today I decided to install the stable official build of Chrome. I've followed the steps to configure the proxy settings but they did not help. 1Password's error report is attached.

As a side-note, my Firefox extension is working fine, although I'm not sure if it makes use of the 1Password agent. (1Password shows Firefox 3.6, but I also have Firefox 7 installed)

Also, this is what my "Browsers" tab is displaying, the chrome section is not well aligned and is still showing "Chrome 18.0.974.0-devel", the Chromium build i was trying out. If i click on this and select my new chrome.exe, it doesn't change.

@mbesemann: I'm afraid I had to remove your post from view, because it contains your 1Password license key.

Now for the problem you're having. According to the diagnostics report, Chrome is not connecting to the agent. For some reason, communications to 127.0.0.1 on port 6258 are blocked.

Usually, this problem comes down to this: a firewall, a proxy, or some anti-virus solution.
  • Hi, mbesemann.

Here's a direct link to the Windows information: http://help.agilebits.com/1Password_Windows/agent-not-connected.html

Please be sure that the unstable developer build is completely removed from your machine. Only stable builds are supported. Your report indicates that it is still installed here: C:\Files\Chrome-bin\chromed.exe

    Hi Khad,

This may sound strange, but that is actually my stable chrome installation. I extracted it there because my work blocks Chrome from being installed, so I had to manually extract it from the installer and place it in its own folder. The antivirus also blocks "chrome.exe" so I renamed the executable to "chromed.exe" so I can run it. Also, since the Chrome preferences can't be created in my Application Data folder, I have to launch it like this:

    C:\Files\Chrome-bin\chromed.exe --user-data-dir=C:\Files\Chromedata

What's strange is that the extension works perfectly fine in the latest build of Chromium. See this screenshot for comparison:

    http://cl.ly/CwcX

As you can see, the agent is not connected in Google Chrome but in Chromium it works just fine. Is the extension relying on the profile being located at %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Google Chrome? Currently my Chromium settings are stored at %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Chromium by default.

I know this is not a 100% standard configuration, but if Chromium works out of the box with no issues, you would think stable Chrome would as well?

    Thanks!

I'm afraid we do not support multiple Chrome profiles (yet)

Correct. This is what our extension is currently doing. It is not aware of the other profile you're passing via the command-line.
  • OK, thanks for the clarification. I guess I'll just have to use Chromium at work for now (or Firefox). Are there any plans to support different Chrome profiles or is that really long term?

We don't have a time frame, but it is on our radar. It will require some re-architecting, so it is not a simple switch to flip. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

  • Please add my vote to the list.

Perhaps as a stopgap solution you could allow users to connect to 1P from one (and only one) profile of their choosing. That might satisfy a number of use cases until true multi-profile integration is implemented.

Thanks for the vote! I will pass your request along to Stefan.
