Problem when importing RF passwords with &

Hello, since I got 1Password for Windows last March I had a couple of annoying problems that made me go back to Roboform.

The first problem is that when importing passwords from RF all the passwords that include the simbol "&" get changed to "& amp;" (without the space). After further investigation I found out that RB writes the .htm file that way (maybe because that's the html way to type it), so it's not really 1Password fault, but one way or another it is annoying to find 72 of my 320 logins unusable.

Curiously while writing this post I thought about opening the .htm file with notepad and replacing "& amp;" (without the space) to "&" and I'm happy to report that it worked. Why didn't I think of this a long time ago, I don't know, but here you have a home-made solution if it's not possible to "fix" it within 1Password.

My second problem, totally unrelated to this but whatever, is that 1Password saves some logins and passwords in a way that I can't see them (where are they and why do they work?) and others are saved as a md5 hash (like vb_login_md5password) and this makes me hesitant of using 1Password exclusively because what if I need to see the real password to change it or use it outside of 1Password?

On the other hand I'm liking the Android app, it is quite slow to sync 320 logins but it's worth it <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

Can you send me a sample of what you're trying to import, please? I would love to reproduce and fix this for you.

Some web sites hash the password before sending it to the web server.

Whenever this happens, the solution is to create (or replace) a login manually:

    1. bring up the login page

    2. enter your username and password, but do not submit the login

    3. click the 1P button

    4. click "Save Login..." (Internet Explorer and Firefox), or the + in the upper-right corner (Safari and Chrome)

This problem has been fixed in 1.0.9.266
  • Hey Stefan, I just downloaded the latest update and I think something went wrong because now 1Password won't import any logins at all.

I even created a new Data folder to test it and I always get a message saying "You have imported 0 new login(s)"

  • It's happening for me with both my full login list exported from RF and the sample I sent you before. Does it work for you using that same sample? (For the record I exported that sample directly from RF and didn't edit it in any way). If it works for you then maybe something when wrong during my update's installation.

Oops, I screwed up. Can you please download 1.0.9.267 and try again? Thanks!
  • Awesome job Stefan, now it works perfectly!. Thank you so much, that was a feature really important for me <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/emoticon-0123-party.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='(party)' />
  • That's great news, Chekemrot! Thanks for updating the thread.
