Unable to retrieve my data [Resolved]
I have been using 1password for Windows 7 for a couple of years. Suddenly when I clicked on the 1Password Icon, I get a message box asking me what I want to do. When I go to "open an existing data folder", it takes me to C:/Users/Bill/Documents/1Password/Backups and when I click "OK", I get a message that "this is not a 1Password Data Folder".
However, if I directly enter my Libraries-Documents-1Password-Backups there sit mutliple copies of backups with various dates.
I sync my laptop and work computers through Dropbox. My work computer has the same problem.
My iPhone and iPad 1Password apps continue to work just fine.
How can I get back to my data on my computers?
Thanks.

Hi Bill,
Thanks for taking the time to contact us. We really appreciate that you have been using 1Password for so long. The Windows version hasn't been available for two years just yet, but I'm not here to split hairs. I'd rather just get this resolved for you. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
Please navigate to your Dropbox folder and tell 1Password to open your data file from there.
If you are still having trouble, could you please let me know if the computers where your data is available are Mac or Windows? You mentioned a "laptop" and "work computer", but I'm not sure which platform either is using. It sounds like everything is working fine on those machines, so it may be helpful to start from there if you are unable to find your data in your Dropbox folder in Windows.Flag 0 -
Bill, it's also worth noting that the backup files created (whether manually or automatically) by 1Password for Windows are intended and suitable for use only with the "restore from backup" feature in 1Password. They truly are not valid data folders that you can open—only a 1Password.agilekeychain folder can used as your 1Password data storage location.
If you're using Dropbox to sync your 1Password data among multiple computers, your 1Password.agilekeychain folder has to be somewhere within the Dropbox folder hierarchy on each of those computers, as Khad suggests.Flag 0 -
Hi, and thanks to you both for responding. I guess it just seemed like two years. I have a PC laptop and a PC desktop, both using Windows 7.
I went to my Dropbox Folder and within that folder I only had the following 4 seemingly related files:
1) ".ws.agile.1Password settings", which when I click on it I get a message that says Windows can't open it.
2) "1Password 2011-07-26 114856", which when I click on it, it tries to open it with Adobe Acrobat.
3) "1Password 2011-08-17 164144", which when I click on it, it tries to open it with Adobe Acrobat.
4) "1Password", which when I click on it gives me the same screen that I get when I click on my Desktop icon, the one I mentioned originally.
1Password.agilekeychain folder does not exist in my Dropbox folder, as far as I can see.
Consequently I am unable to oepn my datafile.
I am a real novice at this, so any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated.Flag 0 -
Bill, you can't have been using Dropbox to sync your 1Password data, then; otherwise, your Dropbox folder hierarchy would (at some level) contain a 1Password.agilekeychain folder.
You need to find a folder with that name (or at least with a name that ends with the .agilekeychain extension) and select that.
If you cannot find such a folder anywhere on your computer, but your 1Password data is still available on your iPhone or iPad, then you should carefully follow the instructions in What if all my 1Password data is already on my iOS device? in the FAQ section of the user's guide to get that data into 1Password for Windows.
Please let us know how it goes.Flag 0 -
If you are still having trouble, could you please let us know where, if anywhere, you are able to access your 1Password data?
Let's focus on where things are working and go from there. I think I know the answer from your posts above, but I just want to make sure we take this one step at a time and not make any false assumptions.Flag 0 -
That's great news, Bill! Thanks for updating the thread.
For anyone else interested, to share and sync your 1Password data among PCs, Macs, and mobile devices (iOS, Android, and Windows Phone 7), you just need to set up Dropbox and 1Password as described in the following documents.
