Trouble running from a non-admin account

luke1970

Hi,

I download and install this Beta version with an admin account on my Mac.

But I work on my Mac with a regular user account and when I start 1PasswordBeta with this account the program crash direct after the start.

Greetings,

Bernd

    Hi Bernd,

The installation script script is written to run under the admin account. If you are running as a regular user, please re-run the asctl commands with sudo:
sudo /usr/bin/asctl container acl add -file /Applications/1PasswordBeta.app

sudo /usr/bin/asctl container acl add -file /Applications/1PasswordBeta.app/Contents/Library/LoginItems/1Password\ Helper.app

sudo /usr/bin/asctl container acl add -file /Applications/1PasswordBeta.app/Contents/Library/LoginItems/1Password\ Helper.app/Contents/XPCServices/ThumbnailService.xpc`
These commands will make sure that both beta and the official App Store version can access to the container folders without crashing.

    Yes.

Please try to run them without sudo first and see if that is enough:
sudo /usr/bin/asctl container acl add -file /Applications/1PasswordBeta.app

sudo /usr/bin/asctl container acl add -file /Applications/1PasswordBeta.app/Contents/Library/LoginItems/1Password\ Helper.app

sudo /usr/bin/asctl container acl add -file /Applications/1PasswordBeta.app/Contents/Library/LoginItems/1Password\ Helper.app/Contents/XPCServices/ThumbnailService.xpc`
Ok, first command I become this output:
asctl: unable to read container for /Applications/1PasswordBeta.app: The file “Container.plist” couldn’t be opened because there is no such file.
After the second command:
asctl: unable to read container for /Applications/1PasswordBeta.app/Contents/Library/LoginItems/1Password Helper.app: The file “Container.plist” couldn’t be opened because there is no such file.
And after the third command:
Thank you for the update.

This is very strange. Please see if you have the Container.plist file:

    1. Open Finder

    2. Select "Go > Go to Folder" menu.

    3. Type ~/Library/Containers

You should see 3 folders that start with "com.agilebits" and Container.plist files inside them:

    Morning,

com.agilebits.onepassword-osx and com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper are in this folder but not com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-thumbs.

Do you sync your data with Dropbox or it is stored in the Container folder? If you do sync with the Dropbox then it might be easier to simply delete the container folders.

    Hi,

    I don't use Dropbox. I have only local database (and missing WiFi sync between two Mac <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' /> )

The problem is: I delete the old beta version yesterday (move to trash) and I can't download the new beta version:

This is a short extract from Terminal screen output. I can send you the complete output if you needed.

I try the download as admin user.

Thank you for the log. It looks like 1PasswordBeta.app is still running and the script failed to remove the old version because of that.

Please try to terminate the app using Activity Monitor and then re-run the script. It is possible that the app is running under the different user.

Hm, this is now very strange. I restart my MacBook and after that I can install 1PasswordBeta without problems.

    Also the terminal commands.

    1PasswordBeta runs fine here now. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

    Great. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

And very thanx for your patience.
