Unable to unlock 1Password keychain
Options
I run 1Password on an iMac, an ipad and 1 iphone and they all sync via dropbox. All of the machines run on the latest versions of software. Works fine.
I now installed 1P on my Windows machine (dropbox is already set up). When I start 1P and enter the password (that one I also use on my iMac), I get an error "1Password has encounterd a problem. Unable to unlock 1Password keychain......"
I tried to uninstall and reinstall. Didn't help.
File-Open Keychain points to the correct folder in MyDropbox.
Any ideas?
P.S.: I don't think that it could be a problem however I'd like to point out that my password to open the keychain from the iMac or iPhone contains a german Umlaut "ö".

Have you tried changing your master password in the Mac version?Flag 0 -
I hadn't. Then I did....
Now I can't sync anymore with my iPhone. Hmmpf!
What I did:
Changed the master password on my Mac. Closed 1W. Dropbox says that all files are up to date.
Changed the master password on the iPhone to exactly the same as on the Mac.
When I now try to sync the iPhone via Dropbox it says "MasterPassword was incorrect...."
Great!
Changed it back to the old one on the iPhone..... Same result.
So it seems that the new password is stored via Dropbox but the iPhone cannot access it.
This is getting stranger and stranger.
The worst part is that I still can't sync with my PC!
Grrrrrrrrrrrr!
So I changed the password on the Mac back to its original. Same on the iPhone. And: tada! Sync works between Mac and iPhone. But not an the PC....Flag 0 -

I did as suggested and changed the password on the Mac side.
When I returned I was able to locate the correct folder [my mind must be going]
however I could not open the file because:
"You do not have security permissions to open "F:\users\myname\library\Application Support\1Password\1Password.agilekeychain""
Any other ideas?

Do you have write access to that directory? Sounds like it is read-only. Starting with 1.0.0.105, our stand-alone app expects write access (the browser extensions do not).Flag 0 -
I just adjusted File permission to all groups (myname, system, everyone) as Read and Write. That is the file and all enclosing folders.
I still cannot open agilekeychain. Remember this is before I need to enter a password. I never get to Password.
The error message is the same as above.

Apparently, access to your OSX partition from Bootcamp is read-only.
You might have been able to unlock your Keychain-on-your-Mac-partition from Bootcamp before, but creating (or editing) items would cause an error. That's why starting with 1.0.0.105, our stand-alone app will not open your read-only Keychain.
Here are your alternatives:
1. Use a product such as MacDrive that does provide write access to your OSX partition from Bootcamp.
2. Put your Keychain in Dropbox. Then install Dropbox on Windows (recommended).
3. Don't use Bootcamp. Use Parallels.Flag 0 -
Tried to unlock the keychain stored on Dropbox with 1Password Anywhere.
Wouldn't work either.
So:
I can open my keychain on the iMac. I can open it on the iPhone. They sync via Dropbox.
But I cannot open the keychain with 1Password for Windows or with 1Password Anywhere.
Any more suggestions?Flag 0 -
The most common reasons for not being able to open the keychain are:

Trying to open the folder containing the 1Password.agilekeychain folder or a folder or file within the 1Password.agilekeychain folder
(Open the 1Password.agilekeychain folder, itself)

Trying to open 1Password.agilekeychain before Dropbox has finished copying the 1Password data from your private Dropbox web site
(1Password.html is part of that data, which may include hundreds of files)

The keychain folder not having a .agilekeychain file extension, without which 1Password for Windows will not recognize the folder as a keychain
(Best practice: Leave the keychain named 1Password.agilekeychain)
Once your 1Password data has been completely sync'ed, using 1PasswordAnywhere simply requires opening the file 1Password.agilekeychain\1Password.html in a web browser. By definition, it is encrypted (so you should be able to unlock it) with the same master password that applies to the entire keychain of which it is a component.
Please let us know if any of these tips help.Flag 0 -
Thanks for the quick reply but that didn't help.
1. I am opening the 1Password.agilekeychain folder itself. Haven't change anything in the setup since I started syncing with Dropbox from my iMac.
When I select File-Open Keychain in the Windows-version of the program it points to the correct folder.
2. Dropbox is finished syncing. It shows the little green tick next to the icon in the lower right of my desktop
3. The folder has the right extension. See above.
I still can't open my password keychain with the Windows-version. Neither with 1Password Anywhere (it says: wrong password and the shows the hint to the password. So I know it's asking for the one that works on the iMac and the iPhone)Flag 0 -

1PasswordAnywhere works but the Windows version refuses to unlock it with the same keychain file.

I have just upgraded to the latest version and i'm also getting this error on Windows 7 64 bit.
It says the keychain is read-only?!
It happened once before, but it sorted itself out somehow.
This time though, it seems it's not leaving...
please explain how to fix this problem - one side effect is that 1p is not popping up asking me if i want to save any new passwords i enter on a site! which is annoying as i have to go back to my MBP and enter them there manually!Flag 0 -
khaled, where is your Keychain?Flag 0

Have you tried copying it elsewhere, and then open this copy?Flag 0

In any case, i've moved the dropbox folder to somewhere else and it seems to be ok for now.
Make sure you've configured Dropbox to find its folder hierarchy in the new location; otherwise, I wouldn't think sync'ing would work properly, and Dropbox might even remove the contents from the "old" location on your other sync'ed computers.Flag 0 -

I have had precisely this problem in Win7/64 using a keychain in a Dropbox folder. I noticed that within the keychain tree there was a file that was marked by Dropbox with a red "X" called ".ws.agile.1Password.write" in the keychain\data\default folder. This issue remained even if 1Password were closed. I then discovered the red X would be cleared (and replaced with the green checkmark indicating synchronization) if I killed the 32-bit process "Agile1PBroker.exe" using Task Manager. This fixes the problem for me when it happens.

I have just installed the update. The problem for me is intermittent, but happened as often as once a day (and as rarely as once a week). If I go a week without the issue, I'll confirm.

I want to confirm that I encountered the same problem with version 1.0.0.128 on Win7 64bit

"1Password has encountered a problem."
"Keychain "C:\Users\Marnix\Documents\My Dropbox\1Password\1Password.agilekeychain" is read-only"
In Dropbox there was also a red-cross.
Closed 1Password.
Killing the process "Agile1PBroker.exe" solved the problem.Flag 0
