I ran into the same issue. Installed the update and the Chrome preference file was corrupted.
  • The same thing happened to me just now (on Windows 7). My preference file was corrupted and all of the extensions that I had installed are gone.

I sent Stefan an email containing my bad preferences file and my current preferences file.

    Thanks for the feedback, folks!

    My own experience, just now...

Windows XP: I did not have Chrome installed when I ran the 1Password 1.0.0.16 updater. I installed Chrome. I launched Chrome but didn't see the 1Password extension. I quit Chrome. In 1Password, I enabled the Chrome extension. The integration worked as expected.

Windows 7: I already had Chrome installed when I ran the 1Password 1.0.0.16 updater. I launched Chrome but didn't see the 1Password extension. In 1Password, I could not enable the Chrome extension. I uninstalled Chrome. I downloaded and reinstalled Chrome. In 1Password, I enabled the Chrome extension. The integration worked as expected.

We'll look into these problems right away. Thanks for your help!

    Hi guys,

If you get the message that the preference file is corrupted and you don’t see any extension, try the following steps:

Close Chrome, open 1Password, unlock and then press the Preferences button on the toolbar
Go to the Browsers section, you may notice that Chrome is unchecked, check it again. If it is checked already, uncheck Chrome and check it again.
Close 1Password and open Chrome, it should work now.
Please let me know if that works.
  • I installed the Chrome plugin through the 1password (Windows XP) preferences, v1.0.0.136. After installing I started up Chrome again and I also got the error that the preference file of Chrome was corrupted and it couldn't restore any of my tabs. After trying a few times with same results, I also closed 1password. Now Chrome starts up fine but the plugin doesn't work when I hit Ctrl+\. It works just fine in IE7. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin but nothing has changed.

Here's some more info on the plugin if it helps.

From Chrome's Extensions setting page: 1Password Extension - Version: 1.0.0.136 (Unpacked).

None of the other extensions say unpacked. There is a button that says "Load unpacked extension..." on the page but it wants you to point it to a file on the system, not on the Extensions page. I briefly tried pointing it to some of the folders in C:\Program Files\1password (including the \Chrome one) but it didn't do anything.

    Welcome to the forum, ErkCx!

The problem with Ctrl+\ has been confirmed and reported to the developer.

We're looking into the other issues cited here, so please do update the thread if you have any additional information.

    Thanks for your patience!

Mike, notice in my post above that the Chrome extension could not be enabled in 1Passwod (your step 2). It was "greyed out" until I had uninstalled and re-installed Chrome.

We're pretty excited about it, too, El Guero. Note that we technically support only Chrome 7, though 1Password may work just fine with Chrome 8 (still in beta, I think), as well. (In Mac OS X, I know there have been some "quirks" with Chrome 9.)

Other than the problem with Ctrl+\ not invoking 1Password, though, I haven't seen any problems with Chrome 7.

Yep, same thing happened to me (preferences corrupt). Luckily (like pinkviola) signing into Chrome sync re-loaded the lost extensions/settings. And now 1Password is working as expected on Chrome 8.0.552.200. It looks like good things come to those who wait (now just have to decide whether to move back from Firefox) <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Still not working for me - no matter what I try, I get corrupted preferences. I think I'll wait to see if the next version of 1PW makes any difference. Anything 1PW would like me to try?
  • El Guero, as a last resort, have you tried uninstalling Chrome, and reinstalling it?

It's a drastic solution, but it worked for me. (Waiting for the next 1Password build seems like a reasonable strategy, too.)

Unfortunately it doesn't work for me.

I use Chrome (build 8.0.552.200) on WinXP and the pop-up only shows up for a nanosecond before it's gone again <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

I tried de- and re-selecting it which just erased ALL my chrome preferences <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/angry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

    I think I'll stick with FF3 a little longer...

Sorry, Cimpr. I meant the comment to be a humorous reminder that it takes time to design, develop, test, document, and release 1Password browser extensions.

    I should probably avoid humor. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_blush.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='(blush)' />

I'm sorry, but that's just not true.

To confirm that, I just did a search for "google chrome vs chrome plus"; here's a quote from the top-listed URL returned by that search:
One important thing to remember about it is that ChromePlus, although have all the functionality of Google Chrome, it remains a hard fact that it is not from Google. ChromePlus is a browser, which is developed by 2 main contributors: Jalon Zhai & Laura G.Van.
Looking a lot like Chrome and working a lot like Chrome doesn't make it Chrome. (Frankly, I'm a little surprised the developers haven't heard from Google about trademark issues.)

Under the circumstances, I can only refer you to the issues and features topic near the top of this forum for information about our near-term plans for 1Password for Windows.
Cimpr, "I'm surprised" is an expression of personal opinion, and I'm not an attorney (though I do have experience with trademark issues).

As you may know, trademark law has to do with use of a name, such as "Chrome." Use of another company's technology, such as Chromium, would be covered by patent law, though that's not an issue in this instance, as Chromium is an open source project. What's more, Chromium is from Google, and they're unlikely to sue themselves. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' /> As for Flock, it doesn't contain the word "Chrome" in its name, so there's no issue with trademark use.

"ChromePlus" is a product from a different organization, and it uses the word "Chrome" in its name. I'm surprised they can get away with that, because of this statement from the Google web site:
“Google Chrome is a trademark of Google Inc. Use of this trademark is subject to Google Permissions.”
Perhaps it's OK to use the word "Chrome" in any way they like without restriction, though I think a court could reasonably rule that there's room for confusion as to whether ChromePlus is a Google product. After all, you thought of Chrome and ChromePlus as "one browser"; protection from the potential for such confusion is the very purpose of trademark law. As I said, though, I'm not an attorney, and I could certainly be wrong. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Regardless of trademark issues, though, the point is that ChromePlus is not Chrome.

1Password for Windows currently includes support for the browsers listed on the Requirements page in our user's guide. ChromePlus currently is not supported, which does not indicate a bug or problem with the software.

We do, however, happily accept your request for the addition of an extension for ChromePlus, and this (like extensions for other browsers not currently supported) may be something we can look into for a future release of 1Password for Windows.

Thanks again for your patience, Cimpr.

When did I say otherwise? All I'm saying is that one you have extension for GoogleChrome then you have an extension for ChromePlus(current version is based on Chromium 7). For Stefan it just means different installing path I guess..
Well, if ChromePlus is based on Chromium 7, which is a requirement for our extension to work, then in theory you may be able to use the following link to install the Chrome extension within ChromePlus:

    [s]deleted[/s] (See Stefan's reply, below.)

I'm going to test this myself today with a few Chromium 7 based browsers, so I'll be able to confirm if it works for sure, but this is certainly how we support 'It's Chrome, Jim, but not as we know it' (oh dear, I'm sorry) browsers on the Mac.

    Hope that helps,

This is not going to work on Windows, because the Mac and Windows versions of our Chrome extension are currently separated (not bundled). Please do not click on Stu's link.
