• Hey there, lesik! Welcome to the forums! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I am sorry for the annoyance! Thanks for bringing this up. While I can't talk about future plans, I agree that this would be a useful feature. We will certainly consider adding this in the future. Thanks so much for letting us know you want this! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
  • Thank you so much for reply! We will wait for such desired feature!

lesik, I merged your thread with this existing one. Please see my post above if you are interested in further details:

    We'll keep working to improve 1Password. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
  • Just found this thread after doing a universal search for it!

As a recent switcher from SplashID, I am astonished that the 1Password iphone app does not have universal search functionality.

As another user mentioned, when one has thousands of records, it is impossible to remember which 'vault'/folder the data was stored in. In fact, the lack of this feature actually penalizes switchers from other apps (like myself) whose records are automatically distributed into the 4 folders by 1Password upon migrating.

Now I have to conduct up to 4 separate searches to access the record I'm looking for. I actually wrote a review for SplashID explaining why I switched from them and stating how easy it was to switch to 1Password. Now I'm not sure if I'd recommend migrating to an app that doesn't have a universal search.

The current search really does seem counter-intuitive when compared to search functionality across the internet. Yes, users are often allowed to restrict their searches to smaller data sets, but they're not prevented from doing a universal search. Imagine going to the Amazon.com app and only being able to search within one department at a time.

You can implement the search feature similar to the way the iPhone's email application handles search.

As soon as the user selects the search bar, additional options would appear below the entry:

    All, Logins, Wallet, Notes, Software.

If the previous user search had "All" selected, then that should be the default search selection on the next search.

If the previous user search did not have "All" selected, then the default search selection should be the folder the user is currently browsing.

    Thanks.

You are absolutely correct. Global search is a great feature. When the initial search capability was coded, devices were much less powerful than they are now. Decrypting every item in a large database can be taxing even for modern desktop machines. With that in mind, we needed to find a way to make sure that 1Password would not grind to a halt while decrypting each item. Obviously, the amount of processing power needed to decrypt items does not play a factor in any of your other examples, so it isn't quite a fair comparison. That said, this was always a stopgap measure until processing power increased on mobile devices.

I can't say anything more at this time, but I think what we are working on will prove to be worth the wait. Thanks for letting us know you are interested in this as well!
