Have you read the documentation that comes with the product? If not, do give that a try. It'll get you a very long way!

You can either import your existing logins (there are plenty of threads here detailing how to do that) and/or visit your sites and add their logins from your keychain one at a time. You may well need to do both.

If you have all your passwords in your Apple keychain, then you can export it and get the data from there.

Can I sync with all three devices? Laptop iPad iPhone

If so what software or apps do I need?

How do I set it up?

Your best bet is to have a look at the documentation that you got with iP; it talks you through synching; I've found it to be very reliable. Good luck!

You should also work your way through what's on this page.

Go to the Help menu in 1P (furthest right) and it will surely tell you all you need to know to get you started.

Suggest working your way through its pages. Take a deep breath <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />.

    BLOND37,

You're almost certainly going to find the right help here. Especially when you say exactly what you're trying to do.

There are - for example - threads on iPhone/iPad synching. And plenty of docs on line (here).

A word in your ear, though, if I may: the more specific you are, the easier it'll be to help you.

Documentation can be challenging at times; particularly if you're new to something. I can understand your frustration <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />.

Suggest you start by slowly and calmly working your way through the setup guides we've pointed you towards.

The chances are good that 1P will do all you want.

Take it one step at a time.

    Use the built-in help.

    Good luck!

OMG I'm really not trying to be difficult but ..

I don't see where my other post came thru. I'll try again.

Say on my laptop I go to abc site. 1p will or should remembering my password etc log me in right?

So later if I go to that site on either my phone or iPad will it do the same there?
  • A technique that some beginner users employ is to work their way through the tutorials at tutorials.

A really good place to start is 3 minute start. Try this and come back if you still have questions.
Say on my laptop I go to abc site. 1p will or should remembering my password etc log me in right?
Yes, it will!

But the user (= you, in this case) has to do some work first. iP can't automatically know all your logins without your having told the to it. Try this tutorial to help you there.
It will - but you have to set up synching first.

The mood I'm in now I want to throw all this stuff out the damn window

i'm going to bed now.. dont like going to bed angry (too late)

are you ABSOLUTELTY SURE this willl do what i want?

actualy repeat back to me what i am tryin to do please.

what version of 1p do i need on my ipad AND phone?

there 2 in the app store

ok so i hve db on my laptop

dunno what else- thetre's green check marks arryfgghh what does it have to ve so compkcated

then you look on line and there's like all this stuff

i dont think drop box and this is what i want.. drop box said its for stuff like pix or videos, or papers, not system files
  • Mark Sealey

As I understand it, you're determined to move from your current system of logging in to websites (which is actually controlled via Safari by your Apple login keychain) manually, to having 1Password control and store passwords and logins 'automatically'.

And you want to synch the data which you'll eventually get into 1P in such a way as to be able to visit websites which require a login/password combination on your iPad and/or (?) iPhone.

I may not be the best person to offer help here, BLOND37: my approach seems different from yours.

I certainly sense that you're feeling a little overwhelmed and don't know where to start.

I can only suggest that - even if only for a few minutes - you set aside any doubts you have about the ability of 1P to do what you want. If for no other reasons than that many thousands (tens of thousands?) of contented users do just that all day every day; and because when they get asked the right questions, everyone here is happy to offer constructive help.

DropBox is a way to synchronize and share files between two computers using what's come to be known as the Cloud. In itself it has nothing to do with 1P. 1P can use it to synch. But you can also synch between desktop 1P and your iPad/iPhone using Wi-Fi. That's why I suggest working your way through the relevant docs here.

I can only suggest - at this point - that you work your way through the tutorials and FAQ/Knowledgebase parts of this site.

Then get back here with any specific queries about procedures there that remain. We'll happily talk you through setup if we can <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />.

    Once again, good luck!

    Hello Blond37,

I'm sorry that you have been having some trouble getting started. I took the liberty of removing some quoting and merging some posts in this thread so it was a bit easier to read. Nothing nefarious. I promise. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Thank you, Tommy and Mark, for your help here! Hopefully I can add some more to what has already been covered. I wish I could have gotten in here sooner, but we have been pretty busy lately. (Although roughly 15 hour response time is pretty good if I do say so myself, I hope you can forgive me. We always like to see it lower.)

    Chrome

If you haven't already installed the Chrome extension, you can do so by clicking the "Install Google Chrome Extension" in 1Password (Preferences > Browsers). Some additional information about 1Password's Chrome extension can be found in our "Things to know about Google Chrome" article.

We also recommend that you disable your browsers' built-in password managers. To disable Chrome's password management, open Chrome and go to Preferences > Personal Stuff > Passwords > Never save passwords. We recommend this both in order to avoid confusion and to increase security.

Once the 1Password extension is installed in Chrome, you can browse the web as usual and 1Password will prompt you to save a login whenever it detects that you have logged in to a website. This is explained in the "Saving and Restoring Logins" section of the 3-Minute Expert Guide that you have already read.

If you already have a large number of logins saved in the OS X keychain from your previous usage of the Google Chrome browser, you can import the passwords Google Chrome has stored in the OS X keychain by selecting "Mac OS X Keychain (Safari, Google Chrome, etc.)" from the Import Assistant in 1Password (File > Import).

Even if you decide not to import anything, your logins will be populated over time the more you use 1Password. When I first started using 1Password (before I ever started working here) I decided that I wanted a tabula rasa and didn't import anything. It was a good clean feeling, but I was not in a hurry to have all of my data in 1Password. I knew it would take time and the neatness of my 1Password data was worth it to me. Obviously, you are free to make your own decision in this regard.

    Syncing

As far as syncing, all of our 1Password products can sync via Dropbox. There is no limit to the number of computers or devices you can sync. You might check out our Dropbox syncing guide if you haven't already. Dropbox syncing is fully automatic, does not require you to be near your computer, and is our recommended method of securely syncing. With Dropbox syncing, you can keep 1Password up to date from across town or across the country — anywhere you have an Internet connection. You Mac doesn't even have to be turned on! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_bigsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-D' />

To sync 1Password across a Mac, iPhone, and iPad, you will need to purchase a license for 1Password for Mac. You can use the fully functional trial version free for 30 days. You will also need to purchase 1Password Pro, our universal iOS app available on the App Store.
Separate question in the app store alone two versions of 1p. … what version of 1p do i need on my ipad AND phone? there 2 in the app store
You can purchase special editions of 1Password designed for just the iPhone or just the iPad, but if you have both devices it is more economical to purchase the universal app: 1Password Pro.

Once you have 1Password installed on your Mac, you will also need to download and install Dropbox on your Mac and then click "Move to Dropbox" in 1Password (Preferences > General). This is described in step two of our Dropbox syncing guide.

PLEASE NOTE: All the code necessary for Dropbox syncing is built into our iOS app(s), so installing on your iPhone or iPad Dropbox is not required. You can certainly use it to access other files you have stored in your Dropbox folder, though. I love using the Dropbox app on my iPhone, but I just want to mention that it is not required (or used in any way) for 1Password's Dropbox syncing. There has been some confusion in this regard in the past. I figured it was best to clear that up just in case. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
i dont think drop box and this is what i want.. drop box said its for stuff like pix or videos, or papers, not system files
Drobox is for user data (as opposed to system files). Your 1Password data file is user data and therefore a prime candidate for Dropbox syncing. In fact, 1Password has a five star rating in the Dropbox App Directory. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_yes.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='(y)' />

    1Password for iOS
Say on my laptop I go to abc site. 1p will or should remembering my password etc log me in right?
Absolutely. If you have previously saved a login for the site you can use it to login again. That is one of 1Password's primary functions.

Please note, however, that 1Password does not currently support autofill (where your password just appears by the mere fact that you visit a page), but we are looking to add that in the future. Some folks expect 1Password to do this because that is how browsers' built-in password managers work, so the confusion is understandable. 1Password was designed to require a bit more intentionality on the part of the user, though. When you visit a site, you can either press ⌘\ on your keyboard or click the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar and then select the login you wish to fill.
So later if I go to that site on either my phone or iPad will it do the same there?
The process is similar but not identical. Mobile Safari cannot be extended like Safari on the Mac can. For this reason, we are not able to integrate 1Password right into the browser on iOS. You will not see a 1Password button in the Mobile Safari toolbar.

To optimize your 1Password experience, therefore, we have built a web browser into our 1Password iOS apps . When you tap a login item’s URL, 1Password will open the site in the browser and fill the login form.

    More Help
I dont mean to be a pest but I thinking all this wont do what I need. … Not gonna shell out money if I'm not sure it'll do what I want … Im sorry but I dont think yur getting what I want. … are you ABSOLUTELTY SURE this willl do what i want? … actualy repeat back to me what i am tryin to do please.
cuz yea i want do what you said - not import cr@p into 1p

on my mac when all set up i'll just need to go a website and 1p will do the rest?

how do i ger rid of the logins and passwords that chrome put in.. man this is gonna be a pain.. i'll have to do get a new password for every site i go to..

    here's where i stand:

    - have 1p (trial) and DB on my mac

-works ok with chrome, but still got all chrome passwords in fields

-have DP on i pad and iphone

-do not have any 1p stuff on phone or pad

    -no syncs set up

i'm sure i'm gonna get snipped at - someone already snipped at me today but from this point on

1 exactly what do i do from this point on..

2 i get that 1p on pad and phone doesnt use safari i'm ok with that.. but it will use its own browsr and do the same as on my mac. ? aut login?

i dont know what a keychain is.. you mean like a usb flash drive?

Ok so if I buy the full desktop version cost?

Then I need born IPad and iPhone? $14 EACH?
  • BLOND37,

Your keychain is a single file (so, software) on your computer's hard drive and associated with each/your account. It contains your logins and passwords etc encrypted and (semi-)automatically available for use by programs such as Safari.

What I do when I'm unsure of such a term is do a Google search like this. It almost always gets me started.

    Worth trying?

As fot iTunes store purchases :

You pay $14 one time and ITunes will allow you to use it on all of your iOS devices, as many as you can afford.

As for the purchase of 1P Mac app from 1P:

You pay for it and its good for you on as many Macs as you can afford assuming you are the only user.

Thats what 1P calls there sane licensing model.

Also make sure you search for the terms "1Password and coupon" in google it generally yields some good results which may save you a little cash.

Uh ok Ill be blunt myself in 2 years... that I have been here the code has always worked never failed once.

Here is the fav coupon site of mine use the top one... " iSlayer " . I just verified it and you save $8.00 Using the code it gives you the savings which equate to about half off the iOS app not bad.

Edit Correction use the " ExtraSpecial " one it saves you $10 .. I need to add this to my list. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

But to each there own, incidently I would not have mentioned it if it didnt work.

As for time patience or energy, last year 2010 the wife and myself saved $3200 using coupons etc and 2009 we saved $2800 so i would hardly say its not worth the effort. In todays economy I take everything I can get. Yes those figures are correct thousands of dollars on everything from groceries to computer apps all by looking for coupons and using things like price blink from my browser.

All that is unimportant tho use the discount and save yourself some cash plus since I am a moderator of 1P and this is a company forum. That should indicate that the app is good and the team are really concerned about there customers. We strive to make sure each on every one is happy. The developers also have a refund policy of 30 day and thats 30 days after you trial ends assuming you purchase on the last day of your trial.

I really think you will come to enjoy 1Password. I came to tell them that I did over 2 years ago and well I never left. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />

    BLOND37,

Although it may not seem like it to you now b/c you're feeling overwhelmed by 1P, you can be assured that the good people at Agile will get you working; keep a positive attitude!

Agile is a totally proper company; there's no "taking money" and then leaving you in the lurch, I promise. I'm a customer, not an employee <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />)).

How about following Khad's instructions? How did that go?

And the other tutorials we've been suggesting?

First identify exactly which step you want to achieve.

Let's leave the iPhone/iPad setup for the moment.

    Forget DropBox for now.

Is 1P set up on your iMac?

If so, would you rather try and import your existing logins?

Or visit your sites and 'read' the logins you use there into 1P?

    Small steps…

    We'll get you there <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

  • I read Khad's last instruction as pretty specific: let us know what you want to achieve and we'll talk you through it.

Have you tried emailing Agile with a specific request?
