I dont know about PPC but stable build 3.5.9 is the last for Leopard. Some one correct me if im wrong but I swear I saw a post from Mike about that.

Quite possible there could be further PPC-supporting 3.5.x builds to at least fix critical (e.g. security) issues.

Thanks, gents -- I was running 3.6.0 beta-7 in Leopard without any problems, but to be on the safe side, I've switched back to 3.5.9 which also works fine. Clearly the decision to chop off Leopard was made after the betas for 6 became available; i.e. beta 7 was fine, nothing later would run.

Thanks for bringing this up, NovaScotian. You are exactly correct. The decision was made after some of the 3.6.0 betas had already been released.

1Password 3.5.9 for Leopard will continue to be available on our downloads page just as 1Password 2.12.1 for Tiger has been available there for the last year or so.
  • I have Firefox 3.6.16 (I do not want Firefox 4) and 1Password said there was an update so I allowed it to update and relaunch and now 1Password is GONE and not in Firefox at all. When I look in the addons area, it says this version of 1Passoword is not compatible with Firefox version 3.

When I open up 1Password and go go the browsers tab, it ONLY lists Firefox 4 even though I don't have Firefox 4 installed, I only have Firefox 3.6.16 installed but there is no way for me to add 1Password back to that now.

What is going on? Why would an update screw it up like this? How do I fix this and get 1Password back in Firefox?

It sounds like you are running a recent Beta version of 1Password. Our Beta version of 1Password 3 doesn't support Firefox 3. However, our current stable version 3.5.9 supports both Firefox 3 and Firefox 4. So if you would like to return to version 3.5.9 please download a fresh copy of 1Password here:

    http://agilewebsolutions.com/downloads

And go into 1Password > Preferences > Updates and UNcheck the box by "Include Beta Versions."

Firefox 3 and Firefox 4 have different ways of handling extensions, so we found that we needed a separate version for Firefox 3 and for Firefox 4. We tried offering both (as you see in version 3.5.9), but what we found was that we couldn't rely on Firefox's "Compatibility Check" to ensure that the wrong version didn't get loaded.

When the wrong version gets loaded by Firefox the results can be anything from it not working to Firefox crashing on launch. Although we had hoped that the automatic compatibility check would handle these, we were overwhelmed with support queries reporting crashes and other failures do to the wrong Firefox extension being loaded into Firefox.

We are thus experimenting with removing Firefox 3 support from 1Password 3.6.0. With that in mind, I would very much like to know why you wish to stay with Firefox 3. The better we understand what people want or need to do the better we can plan things out. So if you wouldn't mind letting us know why you wish to stay with Firefox 3, that would be very helpful.

    Hi

I'm not interested in Firefox 4 at this point either. I tried it briefly and reverted to 3. No support for some add-ons that I really like, and even if they add those, I don't feel like taking on the learning curve of the new version right now anyhow.

I would really appreciate continued Firefox 3 support from 1password.

    Welcome to the forums, Rob!

I have merged two threads together here in the beta forum since this only applies to the beta versions right now.

I'm sure, as a 1Password user, you take your security seriously, and as such I just thought I should mention that Firefox 4 includes myriad security fixes. We like to recommend to our customers, when we see that they're running older software versions, that, if possible, they upgrade at their earliest convenience.

That being said. Firefox 3 will always be supported by 1Password 3.5.9. We won't go back and modify it to remove support. We also won't pull the rug out from under anyone by removing the download link from our site.
I would really appreciate continued Firefox 3 support from 1password.
No problem. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

As I mentioned above, 1Password 3.5.9 for Leopard will continue to be available on our downloads page just as 1Password 2.12.1 for Tiger has been available there for the last year or so. You can still use 1Password on an operating system, Tiger, that is coming up on its six year anniversary. I hope our track record here speaks for itself.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns.

I am having the exact same problem - automatically updated to 1Password 3.6.0 Beta-14, and I am using Firefox 3.6.16. I did as you suggested above, but even though it seems to have

"downgraded" my version to 3.5.9, I still cannot use it with my Firefox. There are no extensions, add-ons, tool bars, options, etc. I have unchecked all Firefox browsers extensions boxes in 1Password, then re-checked only Firefox 3. Still nothing. I can get nothing in Firefox - no buttons, no toolbar as I used to have, nothing. Please help!!!! I use this non-stop every day all day long. How do I get this to work again? Thank you.

    Mike,

Thank you for the reply and incorporation into this thread. One thing that I learned from this thread was that Firefox 4 for the Mac was GA. So, I have switched to Firefox 4 and the 1Password Beta plug-in and both are working fine.

I would just like to add my voice though to the others asking that you not pull Firefox 3 support from 1P 3.6 code line, or re-introduce it. I do believe that people will upgrade their 1P faster than Firefox as 1P is really part of the desktop infrastructure; while Firefox is an application. It is almost the equivalent of Microsoft saying that between Windows 7 PS1 and PS2 we are getting rid of IP4 in favor of IP6, but will always support IP4 as long as you stay on PS1. Anyway, I know this is your decision to make as a product company, and I understand the cost of maintenance of features that will not be utilized. Yet, in this case, I think it may be the proverbial cutting off the nose to spite the face.

Thanks again for the helpful support.

    Thank you for the feedback!

We are still trying to figure out the best way to handle this.

Unfortunately, when we packaged both FF3 and FF4 extensions some of the users experienced crashes because of the configuration where the compatibility checks were broken. At some point there were so many crashes that 1Password extension was almost blacklisted by Mozilla. Having only one extension makes it much more reliable but obviously creates issues for Firefox 3 users. This is one of the reasons we still keep 1Password 3.6 in beta.
  • During a beta upgrade in the last couple of weeks I lost the tool bar for 1Password in firefox (3.6.16). I hadn't had a chance to deal with it until today. If I back out to 3.5.9 with the separate drivers it works fine, if I upgrade to the current beta with the combined version (that just says Firefox 4 in the Browsers tab in the preferences file) it does not. If I check the "Add-ons" window in Firefox, it says "Not compatible with Firefox 3.6.16". this is on Mac OS 10.6.7.

Pretty much until now all the betas have just worked for me, so I haven't spent much time on the forums, although I looked around a bit to see if this was mentioned elsewhere.

Since the ticketing system we use at work is not compatible with FireFox 4, I'm stuck on 3 for the foreseeable future, and I'd like to keep up in the beta program.

    any ideas?

  • Here's some feedback on why you need to continue supporting Firefox 3.6 in 1Password. I switched to Firefox 4 after it was released, and tried to use it for a while, but it is too unstable for my environment, crashed often and I would also find that it had consumed extreme amounts of RAM and my 8GB system had started swapping. This happened numerous times.

    Just google this:

Please do not abandon FF3 support too soon.

Please continue to use the latest [stable] version of 1Password if you need Firefox 3 support. Support for Firefox 3 has only been removed in the beta channel.

It is certainly a personal preference, but also consider another browser. I switch often but have been using Chrome for a while now. I have not had a single stability issue with it. The thing is like a tank — an armored web browsing tank. (Note that I am not suggesting the "solution" to the lack of Firefox 3 support is to simply use another browser. I am just sharing my experience with Chrome which you may find helpful if you have not given it a fair chance and stability is crucial to you.)

The leading browser will continue to shift due to the rapid development cycles of each browser and intense competition, but please also keep in mind that as a security product, 1Password is better staying ahead of the curve rather than behind it. We constantly get requests to add more and more support for beta and development browsers. To also keep maintaining legacy browsers can be quite a drain on development resources. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_sadsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-(' />

That being said, we will certainly take your comments under advisement.

I just finished posting my issue with Firefox 3 and 1Password 3.6 in a separate thread. I had not originally read this thread because its' title says 'Leopard' and I am using 'Snow Leopard'.

Anyway, to answer your question, (although I am not the person you originally asked <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> ), the reason that I need to stay with Firefox 3 is because some of the web based systems here at work are not compatible with Firefox 4 (i.e. our training application system, our video distribution system, and others). In addition, our IT department does not currently support Firefox 4. Unsure when they will.

So, Firefox 4 is a 'no-go' here at work.

  • Hi John,

Thanks for the follow up, and for letting us know why you need to currently use Firefox 3.

As Khad mentioned above, for now the removal of Firefox 3 is only in the Beta versions of 1Password 3.6.0, so if you need Firefox 3 support, it's time to revert to the stable 3.5.9 build available from http://agilewebsolutions.com/downloads - do make sure you quit 1Password and any browsers before replacing the current version of 1Password.

If you're desperate to stay on the Beta channel, and this is for everyone really, then there is a way to get Firefox 3 support in 3.6.0 Beta, however this is very much unsupported and is posted here more for courtesy.

The first step is to download and extract 1Password 3.5.9 from http://agilewebsolutions.com/downloads but don't install this. If you right-click the 1Password.app file and select 'Show Package Contents' you can copy the following file:
Contents/Extensions/firefox3@1password.com
To the following folder on your system, making sure that 1Password and Firefox are *NOT* running:
~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profilename>/extensions/
If you then restart Firefox 3 you should be up and running, and I'd be interested to hear how this works as our Firefox guru Chad said this *should* work, but again is totally unsupported.

    Thanks for everyone's feedback.

After downloading and updating to latest beta, 1password in Firefox 3.6 doesn't work anymore, even though it's on the Add-ons list, plus I don't know why the extra 1password Add-on for FF4 is installed too.

Going to 1password's Preference, I see only FF4 on the list of browsers, and missing FF3.6, even though FF3.6 is still on my system while FF4.0 has been uninstalled long time ago.

This is driving me crazy, how do I fix it??
  • Hi 1passworder,

I'm sorry for the confusion here, the latest Betas of 1Password 3.6.0 do not support Firefox 3, they only support Firefox 4. The reason for this is that we found we had a lot of issues with supporting both versions and so, since Firefox 4 is an important security update as well as a feature update, we felt dropping Firefox 3 support was the right choice.

If you need Firefox 3 support, and we'd love to hear why you're wanting to stick with Firefox 3, then you'll need to downgrade to the stable 3.5.9 build by following these steps:

    1. Download 1Password from our web site:

    http://agilewebsolutions.com/downloads

Click on the "Download Now" button under "1Password 3"

    2. Quit your web browser and 1Password, if it's running

    3. Drag the newly downloaded version of 1Password to the same location as any previous one -- replacing it

    4. Run 1Password at least once and then your web browser

Your information is stored in a data file separate from the application, so it will not be harmed by this procedure.

    Hope that helps,

Thanks for the amazingly prompt response to this issue. To answer your question, I'd love more than anything to upgrade to FF4, but I still keep using Firefox 3 because of the TWO critical add-ons that are not supported on FF4:

    1. FoxSplitter. There are so many threads and requests for the developer to update this, but I have no idea why he is silent on whether there will ever be an update for FF4.

    2. Evernote. They still haven't figured out how to support the "Clip-to-Desktop" feature in FF4 yet.

    Thanks for your attention.
  • Hey there! On behalf of Stu you are most welcome. I am just sorry we didn't have more positive news for you. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

I guess I am weird in that I actually prefer the Evernote webclip bookmarklet in most cases. It doesn't have the hotness of clip to desktop, but it feels less intrusive to me for some reason...

Firefox 4 is still really new, though, so it'll probably be a while before extensions catch up to it. In a lot of cases it seems like developers lose interest after making an awesome extension for a major release of Firefox (or other apps, even.) The good news is even when that happens, the community is so big that someone invariably steps in to fill the need. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Feel free to use 1Password 3.5.9 as long as you need to to hang onto Firefox 3.6. It's not going anywhere. And chances are by the time we release some big new feature you just can't pass up, the Firefox 4 extension ecosystem will be more mature and you can join us. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

    P.S: I just Googled Foxsplitter and...wow am I glad I didn't get hooked on that before! I can see the appeal. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' />

  • Just upgraded to 1Password 3.6.0.BETA-25 and Firefox 3.6.17.

    1Password toolbar disappeared.

I have uninstalled all browser extensions, both from within 1Password and Firefox.

Firefox 3 is no longer shown on the list of available browser extensions in 1Password (see attached screenshot).

    Any ideas?

    cheers

    Pete
