Leopard and Firefox 3 not supported in 3.6.0
Comments

I have the same problem. FireFox 3 is not in the list of browsers in 1password prefs. Only FireFox 4 lists, and I do not have FireFox 4 installed on my Mac.
FireFox: 3.6.17
1Password: 3.6.0 BETA 25 (31025)
Why does FireFox 4 list as a browser when it's not installed yet FireFox 3 does not list when it is the only version of FF I have installed?
This has been happening for about a week, so the previous beta had the same issue.Flag 0 -

For me, it's a matter of life and death. I have a core duo which has an intel hard limit of 2GB of memory. FireFox 4 is probably the worst browser as far as memory usage goes and I quickly run out of available memory and my computer slows to a crawl.
So with my current computer, until mozilla cleans up their memory usage, I cannot upgrade to FireFox 4.
FireFox 3 and Camino are the 2 lightest mainline browsers available.
Can you make FireFox 4 the default extension, but have the possibility to install the FireFox 3 extension? I'm sure people would be able to figure out how to install the FireFox 3 extension if they need it and it's available.Flag 0 -

We did that before, unfortunately, it created a lot of problems and many crash reports sent to both us and the Firefox team.Flag 0 -

Hi Kurt,
Sorry for any confusion here, the 3.6.0 Betas of 1Password have dropped support for Firefox 3, only Firefox 4 is supported going forward.
If you need Firefox 3 support, please revert to the stable 3.5.9 build by following these steps:
1. Download 1Password from our web site:
http://agilewebsolutions.com/downloads
Click on the "Download Now" button under "1Password 3"
2. Quit your web browser and 1Password, if it's running
3. Drag the newly downloaded version of 1Password to the same location as any previous one -- replacing it
4. Run 1Password at least once and then your web browser
Your information is stored in a data file separate from the application, so it will not be harmed by this procedure.
We did hope to support both versions of Firefox going forward, but sadly this caused a lot of issues for many users and so, given that Firefox 4 is an important secure update as well as a feature update, we feel the time is right to move to Firefox 4 only.
If you do stay with Firefox 3 and 1Password 3.5.9, please be sure to update your version of Firefox to 3.6.17 by going using Firefox's 'Check for Updates' option which if I recall correctly is under the Help menu.
Hope that helps,

maybe I'm missing something here, but when FireFox beta first came out, every time I would switch between the browsers. When starting up FireFox 4 after running FF3, it would check for compatibility with all the installed add-ons and would disable the 1password-FF3 extension. Same with starting up FF3 after running FF4, it checks for add-on compatibility and disables the FF4 extension.
Does disabling add-ons send crash reports?Flag 0 -

Thanks for the amazingly prompt response to this issue. To answer your question, I'd love more than anything to upgrade to FF4, but I still keep using Firefox 3 because of the TWO critical add-ons that are not supported on FF4:
1. FoxSplitter. There are so many threads and requests for the developer to update this, but I have no idea why he is silent on whether there will ever be an update for FF4.
2. Evernote. They still haven't figured out how to support the "Clip-to-Desktop" feature in FF4 yet.
Thanks for your attention.

Fox Splitter still does not support FF 4 however you may be happy to use Tile Tabs (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tile-tabs/) which does.Flag 0 -

That was our original assumption too and we used to include both extensions at the beginning. For some reason, the compatibility check is either disabled or broken for many users and it caused the incompatible extension to load into Firefox and crash it.Flag 0 -

Hi John,
Thanks for the follow up, and for letting us know why you need to currently use Firefox 3.
As Khad mentioned above, for now the removal of Firefox 3 is only in the Beta versions of 1Password 3.6.0, so if you need Firefox 3 support, it's time to revert to the stable 3.5.9 build available from http://agilewebsolutions.com/downloads - do make sure you quit 1Password and any browsers before replacing the current version of 1Password.
If you're desperate to stay on the Beta channel, and this is for everyone really, then there is a way to get Firefox 3 support in 3.6.0 Beta, however this is very much unsupported and is posted here more for courtesy.
The first step is to download and extract 1Password 3.5.9 from http://agilewebsolutions.com/downloads but don't install this. If you right-click the 1Password.app file and select 'Show Package Contents' you can copy the following file:
Contents/Extensions/firefox3@1password.com
To the following folder on your system, making sure that 1Password and Firefox are *NOT* running:
~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profilename>/extensions/
If you then restart Firefox 3 you should be up and running, and I'd be interested to hear how this works as our Firefox guru Chad said this *should* work, but again is totally unsupported.
Thanks for everyone's feedback.

Well, I stumbled upon something like this by doing my own fooling around. ALAS, this solution doesn't seem to work, because whenever I open up 1P (launch the app, that is), 1P 3.6.0 seems to delete the Firefox 3 extension. My workaround is to lock the FF3 extension manually (via Get Info). THAT works (at least for now).
I understand the dilemma facing Agile: they want to support FF 3 (or at least did originally...), found they couldn't support both FF 4 and FF 3 well, so dropped support for the older software. The only problem, alas, is that FF 4 is not taking off rapidly because it's unstable, lots of addons aren't yet upgraded for it, etc. Not an easy one...Flag 0 -
Fortunately, Firefox 3 support is alive and well in our latest stable version and only our beta versions have dropped support for Firefox 3 at this time. Only those on the bleeding edge [of 1Password betas] need to be on the [not quite so] bleeding edge [of Firefox's latest stable release]. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />Flag 0

Right you are. I DON'T like being on the bleeding edge, but I wanted Fluid 1.0 support, which forces me into the 1P beta. I suppose I could always abandon the new Fluid and go back to 0.9.6 (with 1P 3.5.9) until I'm ready to move to FF4!Flag 0 -

Well, maybe not. Things are always progressing which is part of what makes this all so fun (when it works). <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />Flag 0 -
I am a web application developer, and one of the main reasons I use 1Password is for quick, one-hotkey logins in every browser I need to test. This includes Firefox, 3, 3.5, 3.6, 4, IE 7, 8, 9, 10, Safari 5, Chrome, and Opera. I was puzzled by 1Password not supporting Firefox < 4, but this thread helped me understand. I'm going back to stable for now, since I use old versions of Firefox constantly, but this is my contribution as to why I need FF3 support. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> I don't mind manually installing an extension, either, if it comes to that (for example, if eventually it becomes necessary to unbundle FF3 support in stable for lack of a robust version checker, as mentioned in posts above).
Thanks for awesome software! I recommend it regularly to all my friends.Flag 0 -
It's worth noting that Google themselves have taken up a new policy of only supporting current browsers and 1 version back. This e-mail was sent to Google Apps Administrators today (excerpt):
Dear Google Apps Administrator,
We are contacting you to let you know you important changes in Google Apps browser support and recommended steps to take.
Beginning on August 1, 2011, Google Apps support for the following browsers versions will be DISCONTINUED:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 7
- Mozilla Firefox 3.5
- Apple Safari 3
After August 1, you may have trouble using certain features in Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Talk, Google Docs and Google Sites with these older browsers, and eventually these apps may stop working entirely.
WHY THE CHANGE?
To give users the best experience with Google Apps, we need the capabilities of modern browsers to deliver features such as desktop notifications for Gmail and drag-and-drop file upload in Google Docs.
For this reason, beginning August 1, 2011, Google Apps will support the current and previous major releases of Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari on a rolling basis. Each time a new version is released, we’ll begin supporting that version and stop supporting the third-oldest version.
Flag 0 -
Thank you for posting that, rvietri. As a security-focused company, staying current with software releases is important to us. I can only imagine that Google's motivation is similar. We encourage all of our users to stay safe out there on the interwebs!
The main vector of attack in years of old was the floppy drive. (Remember that?) Nowadays it has become the web browser. Older versions of web browsers may not have fixes released as often (or at all).
I am not speaking directly to any specific versions of any particular browsers but in general, staying current is wise.
Thanks again!Flag 0
