1password not working with Safari 5.1 (Snow Leopard)

fribhey
fribhey Junior Member
I'm running the latest version of 1password on Snow Leopard and just installed Safari 5.1 but 1password doesn't seem to want to install the extension for Safari. When I open 1password it asks to install the Safari extension, i click install and then Safari opens and tries to load 1PasswordBeta.safariextz and the page never loads. I restarted my machine and found multiple copies of 1PasswordBeta.safariextz in my recovery folders in my trash so I tried putting it in my extensions folder with no luck and double clicking on it just takes me to a page that never loads.

anyone else having any problems with Safari 5.1?

I upgraded to Lion and this is the exact behavior I see - nothing happens when I click on the 1P icon. Actually that's not quite true - I disabled all other extensions and restarted safari, and I got a popup window, once, when I clicked on the 1P icon. Since then, even though I did not re-enable any other extensions, 1P doesn't work for me.

This might be the 1 application that will make me regret upgrading <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

Yes same problem under Snow Leopard with safari 5.1

In addition the Safari browser extension has compeltely disappeared from the 1P preferences in Browsers

I reverted to Safari 5.05 and now it won't appear either in 1P Browser Extension in preferences, but it does work when Webkit is selected

Please advise us of the fix needed

I've not yet upgraded to Lion (will do so over the weekend); so, I'm using 10.6.8 with Safari 5.1.

While the 1P button, which was installed as a 3.6.5 beta Extension into Safari 5.1, doesn't do anything, the keystroke combination Cmd and \ does initiate the login and PW, for a website, via a pop-up window (appears to be a new method of implementing the log-in). This pop-up window forces selection of the log-in in order to enter the log-in details, whereas previously the keystroke combination immediately entered those details.

[Note about other Extensions within my Safari: I was able to turn them Off and back On. And, when the others were Off, the 1P button still did not work.]

While I know the Agile wizards will resolve issues (as they've always done), I'll be curious to know if the new log-in submission behavior is as a result of Lion and how it implements.

I am having one problem with Safari v5.1 and Snow Leopard (v106.<img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/emoticon-0103-cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='8)' /> that I have not seen mentioned on this thread. The 1password menu item is not being placed in the Safari top menu bar.

I have deselected and reselected that option in 1password preferences then restarted Safari (twice) -- still no menu item.

Now as far as the 1password extension, I may or may not be having some problems with that. At first I thought it wasn't working when I clicked on it. But then I figured out that the specific site was not connected to a password entry although I thought it was. Common variation on the website address I DID have a password entry associated with. So that leads to a suggestion - show a message or do something when we click on the 1password extension button to let us know it is working but found no matches.

Also - is this a beta extension with Safari v5.1 under Snow Leopard? Getting a message about installing a beta extension surprised me, although I did go ahead and install it.

    Thanks,

    Spencer
  • Installed Lion today and now I don't even have the 1P icon on my tool bar. With Snow Leopard, I could left click the track pad and had the option of using 1Password to auto fill, now that feature is missing as well.

    Any help here?

I'm finding the new plugin for Safari 5.1 very flaky. It works on some of my sites to login but on my Investorline site it completely fails. If I switch to Firefox I have the old plugin and it of course works fine on all my sites. What could be the problem with the new Safari 5.1 plugin.

    Snow Leopard user here (10.6.8 ) + Safari 5.1 + 1Password 3.6.1 (build 31057)

I'm experiencing the same problem since the Safari 5.1 update. Everytime I open 1Password and click "install Safari extension" Safari 5.1 opens and then nothing happens. The 1PasswordBeta.safariextz page never loads and no extension as a result. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I click install, Safari opens and tries to load the "file:///private/var/folders(.....)1PasswordBeta.safariextz" and the page never loads. I have restarted the computer and repaired permission just in case, but the problem persists.

    Additional suggestions?
  • For me the extension is added to Safari 5.1 in snow leopard after adding from 1Password, but when the button in Safari is selected and I enter my password and hit enter nothing happens. If I select the button again the password area closes. That's as far as it goes in Safari for me.

Well today, the 1P button button now activates the new, 1P Login window from 1Password Desktop. Since updating Safari and installing the 1P Extension, I've not done anything else. So, I can't point to anything specific that's activated the button. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I, too, am now showing a 1P button, and the extension is working. I don't recall anything specific I did to make it work. The extension calls itself "3.6.5 Beta-23", even though 1P itself has version 3.6.1.
  • Same here. the 1P button is visible and active. Have we lost the ability to "Right Click" in a password window and have 1P auto fill username and password? 1Password does not show up when I right click. That was a feature I enjoyed prior to this upgrade.

If you have Websnapper installed, try removing it from Safari.

I had been having the same problem -- unable to install 1password extension in safari after upgrading to 5.1 (Snow leopard). I saw Websnapper reported as a possible culprit in the Apple discussion forums.

So I ran the websnapper app, selected "remove Safari button" ("Websnapper" menu column; just underneath Preferences), closed Safari, tried again to install the 1password Safari extension from 1password.

It looked like the installation was reported failed (not the never-loading page, now, but an error message and "see activity window"), but in fact it worked -- the 1P button is back on the safari menubar and the extension shows up in Prefs/Extensions.

And it seems to be working. I don't like the new way that clicking on the 1P button pops up a large login panel down in the Safari window instead of something more like a context menu right where you click, but i gather that's how it's now designed to work.

I did not have to uninstall the websnapper app entirely, although I may go ahead and do that if I find other safari weirdness is still happening.
  • Still a lot of problems with the extension... I just happened to get lucky with the first site I tested after I got it installed.

So... decided to completely uninstall Websnapper (which also takes out something called SpiceShaker that it relies on) and restarted the computer (since SpiceShaker still appeared in System Prefs). But I don't think these steps improved things compared to just removing the websnapper button from Safari.

My impression is that on a lot of pages, the 1password extension properly fills in the username and password, but then activates the wrong button on the page. eg, on one page it seems to activate the "search" button instead of the "login" button. On another page I end up on a browser troubleshooting page after the supposed login. (The login works just fine if I enter the info manually, so it's not a case of the page reacting to a version of Safari it doesn't recognize.)

One last note, when Safari starts up, system.log consistently reports:

1PasswordAgent[239]: (Information) Safari v5.1 extension disabled: unsupported browser bundle version '6534.50', only 6533-6534 are supported.

    I'm running:

    Safari Version 5.1 (6534.50)

    OS X 10.6.8

    1Password Version 3.6.1 (build 31057)

    1Password safari extension: 3.6.5.BETA-23

I Password work with Google Chrome (13.0.782.99). However, in Safari 5.1 (with extensions enable, after five (5) downloads and installs) will not open when I entered my Master Password; if, I go to Google Chrome it works fine.

I am not going to install Lion until it is compatible with FileMaker 11 Pro Advanced & Server, since my corporation is based on FileMaker programming.

This is my first comment since we stated using 1 Password five (5) years ago. This is the first problem we have had. It is happening in sixteen (16) offices worldwide. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM!!!
