Keeps asking me to save Logins

mac.gebruiker
mac.gebruiker Junior Member
Since Lion/latest 1Password and using Safari then 1 password keeps asking me whether I want to save the logincodes of 1 particular site. if I acknowledge the the logincodes are save. So, if I enter this site 5 time a day then there are 5 new entries in 1Password.

  • ditto'ish. Mine is trying to save new logins for all my old logins. Though, unlike you, it recognizes that new one the next time around. But it basically means I have to go through and create new saved logins for each account and delete the old ones.

Strangly, I can still use the original logins to log into a site.

Strange behavior. I miss the option of "updating" an existing login versus being required to create an entirely new login.

  • Same thing for me. Asks me to save login for every site I already have logins for. Really irritating.

There is a known issue with Safari's own AutoFill.

Does that apply to your situation? Do you still see the problem after disabling it as shown in that link?

    Please let me know.

    Thanks!

Tried that but it does not help. Still lots of sites (but not all) where 1Password want to save.

    Hi mac.gebruiker,

Would you please provide some example URLs for us to test? The more data we have, the quicker we can find a way to fix those sites.

    Thanks!

  • Add me to the list. Keeps asking me to save logins for eBay, PayPal, and others that I can't remember at the moment. Not every site. I'm using OSX 10.6.8. and Safari 5.1.
  • I get it this problem too. eBay, Paypal and Twitter definitely doing it off the top of my head.
  • Apple's site too.

Thanks for the listing those specific sites. I am not abel to reproduce the problem with any of the ones listed.

Again, please be sure that you have disabled Safari's AutoFill as described in the User Guide.

Disabling Safari's autofill does diminish the number of sites where this problem happens but that is not a solution.
  • Even if this is something of a solution (and it has worked for me so far - I was experiencing the same irritating problem) it does not make my computer experience better, something which 1password always did before. Now, instead of being able to log in to very common sites automatically using the safari facility, I get halted and asked for my 1password. That is NOT what I want from 1password for my shares portfolio or other insignificant logins. I want to go straight in. I'd be grateful for this to get patched soon, so I can use the two facilities side by side as I did in Snow Leopard.

Also - what happened to the 'never for this site' option?
  • Update

I just went to my share portfolio and 1password asked me yet again if I wanted to save the login in

    So - I have tried:

    1. putting the 'avoid autosave' in the login preferences for that domain

    2. Switching off autosave in Safari.

But still every time I a.) now have to manually type in that password (because safari autosave is now off) or b.) fill in an even longer and more complicated 1password (more click and keystrokes than required) and c.) get rid of the reminder asking me if I want to save the already saved password that 1password just filled in for me

This is clearly a flaw in the Lion upgrade. I hope it gets solved soon. 1password used to be a real boon - now it is really making my experience more tiring.
  • That fixed it for me but is not a fix. As the previous poster stated 1Password is supposed to make my browsing easier not more annoying.

Autofill trick doesn't make a difference here.

    Site's that give problems:

    Wachovia bank

    Wells Fargo

    Amex

    Google Wave

    Google+

    Google Gmail

    Any Wordpress installation

These forums and any IPB forum I've been a member of.

    Suddenlink

Basically, just about every site that I have a saved password on, 1Password continuously asked to save the password. In the vast majority of cases, I've had a saved password on the site for at least a year already. I'm just about ready to uninstall the extension as it's become more of a hindrance than a help.
  • Using 1Password for Mac version 3.6.5 (Build 31075), Safari extension 3.7.b1

Asking to save the login on almost every site is a constant pain. I have disabled the Auto Save feature in Safari as noted above.

Although disabling Safari features is not a fix, it is just a work around, this is not fixing the problem either.

I have noticed that most of the time I am asked to save a login is when I manually enter the login without using the extension. Netflix is one example. Other sites related to my work also ask to save the login even though they are already entered in 1Password.

I would have to say every site I manually enter login information, 1Password asks to save even though already stored.

This problem occurs on all my Mac's. I have an older iMac (late 2007) and a new Macbook Pro (early 2011). Same issue on both.

Patiently waiting for a fix for this and meanwhile wishing that I had never "upgraded" (a contradiction in terms) to Lion or Safari 5.1 (another source of discontent).

    Safari - Version 5.1 (7534.48.3)

    1P - Version 3.6.5 (build 31075), Extension 3.7.b1

Have disabled Sarari's AutoFill feature like instructed and 1P still has issues. Will work fine on some sites(autofill and enter), others will autofill and not enter, some won't even autofill. On some sites it will ask to create a new Save, some it doesn't. Random. Noticed one person stated he had issues with Wells Fargo. That's one site that works for me. Off the top of my head, Chase, Citi, and Ally Bank have issues.

One thing I did was use Safari's custom CSS option to completely hide the 1P dropdown bar. I too was pretty frustrated with manually logging into sites and then getting asked to save the login information. It sounds like having the "never for this site" option is on Agile's radar but my patience had run out.

If you are interested, here's what I added to the custom CSS:
iframe#com-agilebits-onepassword-autosave, section#section, section.animateIn {display:none;}
You can configure this in the Safari preferences -> Advanced menu. You'll have to create a .css file with that line of code in textedit, save it (like to your documents folder) and then choose that as your style sheet in the Safari preferences.

    It worked like a dream!

Please add me to this list of unhappy users... this has ruined the usability of 1Password for me.

The above solution stops me from being given the choice with new sites as we used to be?

P.S. just noticed it does it with this site too!

repeatedly asks even when a login is saved... very annoying

Ditto--this is EXTREMELY annoying. Shouldn't toggling off the "Enable Autosave of Logins in browser" preference disable this altogether?
  • Still keeps bringing up the toolbar to save logins even if already saved.

Using the latest extension beta and 1P version.

Please fix soon. I honestly believe a big part of the problem is with Apple so maybe you can get in contact with their support.
  • As a longtime 1Password user, I am very disappointed in the Safari extension. It is not up to the standards that customers have come to expect with 1Password. This constant request to save Logins is annoying and inconvenient. Recommending disabling Safari's Autofill is no solution: disabling a standard app feature to facilitate an extension simply reduces functionality, ease of use and user experience. If this bug can't be fixed, or perhaps as an interim solution, I would far rather see the 1Password extension offer the option to turn off its autosave function (in favour of the user manually clicking on the icon to implement). Many Safari extensions offer user selectable options in this manner. The rationale being that I save Logins far less often than visit sites where the Save bar pops up and has to be dismissed. In the course of business I visit some sites (like Paypal) dozens of times a day and am thoroughly sick of the 1Password bar having to be dismissed every time. If your developers are having a difficult time reproducing the behaviour, try Paypal, GMX, AMEX, Gmail. These aren't obscure websites who might be expected to have peculiarities; quite the opposite these are sites one might assume Agile would pound hard in testing to ensure the reliability of the new extension.
  • Disabling Safari's AutoFill may work, but that is not a solution. I had tons of non-sensitive sites I visit that I want Safari to auto fill in my user name and password.
  • Same here people. It asks me to save login info on every site that I already have saved login info from Snow Leopard. Frustrating!
  • With the latest extension beta 3.7.b4 if I deselect "Ask to Save new logins" in the tools menu it appears to work now. I am no longer being asked to save the login every time even though it is not a "NEW" login. Getting close to a solution. I haven't tried it with a site that is actually a new login to see how it works or how I will save the new login.

I do like the interface with the extension. There are now more options and definitely easier to use.

I also think disabling Autofill in Safari is NOT a solution. With previous versions of 1P and Safari, I was able to use Autofill in conjunction with 1Password, which is what I want to do.

Why has this recent version eliminated that capability? Why is 1P moving backwards in functionality?

Safari 5.1 + 1Password has been a disaster for me so far.

I have enabled Autofill in Safari 5.1 and the extension (b4) is working okay. As I noted above, I disabled the AutoSave feature in the extension only.

One thing I like about the new extension is the ability to open it, go to logins, select one and a new tab will open in Safari logging me into that site. Nice feature!

Now, if only the the problem with HTTP authentication can be resolved. I am fairly certain this is an Apple issue since the entire toolbar is greyed out when trying to login using HTTP Authentication. You are right, Safari 5.1 is a disaster on its own. Non-support for many things is just unforgivable. It is no longer the quality web browser that is was just one version ago. I feel sometimes like I am working with Safari 1.0.

Could you please try the new Beta release (3.7.1.BETA-2) and see if it fixes this problem? You can do this by going to the 1Password > Preferences window, selecting the Update panel, enable the "Include Beta versions" checkbox, and then click Check Now. Once the update is installed, try again and see if it helps.

If you are still having trouble on certain sites, could you provide the URLs?

What version of OS X are you using?

    Thanks for letting me know.

Disabling Safari's AutoFill is certainly not ideal. We are working to make this better and have already made some improvements in the latest beta version.

Also, with regard to the master password prompt, you might consider changing your security settings to keep 1Password unlocked while you are at your computer. I have mine set to this which essentially keeps everything unlocked until I close the lid on my MacBook.

It sounds like you are also seeing on sites which we at AgileBits use regularly and do not see the same behavior. It sounds like you are using Lion. That is a start. Is anyone else seeing this in Snow Leopard?

Again, we are working to resolve the issue fully (both with and without Safari's own AutoFill disabled). Please let me know if the latest beta version helps in your case.
