Safari - Version 5.1 (7534.48.3)

    1P - Version 3.6.5 (build 31075), Extension 3.7.b1

Have disabled Sarari's AutoFill feature like instructed and 1P still has issues. Will work fine on some sites(autofill and enter), others will autofill and not enter, some won't even autofill. On some sites it will ask to create a new Save, some it doesn't. Random. Noticed one person stated he had issues with Wells Fargo. That's one site that works for me. Off the top of my head, Chase, Citi, and Ally Bank have issues.
Thank you for providing those specific sites. We will keep monitoring this. I do apologize for the trouble. Hopefully we can find the root cause and get this resolved completely very soon.

Could you please try the new Beta release (3.7.1.BETA-2) and see if it fixes this problem? You can do this by going to the 1Password > Preferences window, selecting the Update panel, enable the "Include Beta versions" checkbox, and then click Check Now. Once the update is installed, try again and see if it helps.

Ditto--this is EXTREMELY annoying. Shouldn't toggling off the "Enable Autosave of Logins in browser" preference disable this altogether?
Yes. It definitely should. Is this not what you are seeing? Could you please tell me what version of OS X you are using?

As a longtime 1Password user, I am very disappointed in the Safari extension. It is not up to the standards that customers have come to expect with 1Password. This constant request to save Logins is annoying and inconvenient. Recommending disabling Safari's Autofill is no solution: disabling a standard app feature to facilitate an extension simply reduces functionality, ease of use and user experience. If this bug can't be fixed, or perhaps as an interim solution, I would far rather see the 1Password extension offer the option to turn off its autosave function (in favour of the user manually clicking on the icon to implement). Many Safari extensions offer user selectable options in this manner. The rationale being that I save Logins far less often than visit sites where the Save bar pops up and has to be dismissed. In the course of business I visit some sites (like Paypal) dozens of times a day and am thoroughly sick of the 1Password bar having to be dismissed every time. If your developers are having a difficult time reproducing the behaviour, try Paypal, GMX, AMEX, Gmail. These aren't obscure websites who might be expected to have peculiarities; quite the opposite these are sites one might assume Agile would pound hard in testing to ensure the reliability of the new extension.
Welcome to the forums, Dan. I'm sorry your first post isn't under better circumstances.

I agree. This behavior is not up to our own standards. That is why we are trying to track down the cause and get it resolved as quickly as possible. Hopefully we can do that more quickly with help from you and the others here in the forums.

Aside from the issue with Safari's AutoFill (described above and in the User Guide), there may be an issue that some folks are also having when attempting to disable 1Password's autosave. I cannot reproduce this, but that seems to be part of the issue for some folks here.

If we could have reproduces this on the very popular sites you mention, I am certain it would have been fixed already. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_worried.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':S' /> We are still unable to duplicate this in our labs. if we can't duplicate it, it can be very difficult to fix. That's why I hope we can figure out how to reproduce the problem with the help of you fine folks.

Disabling Safari's AutoFill may work, but that is not a solution. I had tons of non-sensitive sites I visit that I want Safari to auto fill in my user name and password.
You are absolutely right. That is why we are still working hard to resolve this!

With the latest extension beta 3.7.b4 if I deselect "Ask to Save new logins" in the tools menu it appears to work now. I am no longer being asked to save the login every time even though it is not a "NEW" login. Getting close to a solution. I haven't tried it with a site that is actually a new login to see how it works or how I will save the new login.

I do like the interface with the extension. There are now more options and definitely easier to use.
Very good to hear! Thank you for the update!

I await feedback confirmation from others here.

I also think disabling Autofill in Safari is NOT a solution. With previous versions of 1P and Safari, I was able to use Autofill in conjunction with 1Password, which is what I want to do.

Why has this recent version eliminated that capability? Why is 1P moving backwards in functionality?

Safari 5.1 + 1Password has been a disaster for me so far.
The short version of the answer to your questions is that Apple made some changes which required a complete rewrite of the extension. We are working diligently to restore all previous functionality (including the ability to peacefully coexist with Safari's own AutoFill) and even exceed the previous extension in as many ways as we can.

I have enabled Autofill in Safari 5.1 and the extension (b4) is working okay. As I noted above, I disabled the AutoSave feature in the extension only.

One thing I like about the new extension is the ability to open it, go to logins, select one and a new tab will open in Safari logging me into that site. Nice feature!

Now, if only the the problem with HTTP authentication can be resolved. I am fairly certain this is an Apple issue since the entire toolbar is greyed out when trying to login using HTTP Authentication. You are right, Safari 5.1 is a disaster on its own. Non-support for many things is just unforgivable. It is no longer the quality web browser that is was just one version ago. I feel sometimes like I am working with Safari 1.0.
Sounds like we are getting closer! We have been addressing the HTTP Auth prompt issue in another thread, but we are working on a solution to the limitation Apple has put in place there as well.

    Please keep the feedback coming!

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I am using OSX Lion as well. Now using version 3.7.b7 of the extension and it still appears to be working fine. I now have the "Ask to save new logins" selected as well as "Autofill" elected in Safari 5.1. No longer asking to save logins for sites that I manually enter username and passwords.

As a note, the extension 3.7.b5 would not retain the the option to deselect "Ask to Save new logins" in the tools menu. Now it appears to do so. I will look at this further as I close and then reopen Safari 5.1.

Well, I just tested this by closing Safari 5.1 and then reopening. The extension does not remember preferences set. I deselected the "Ask to save Logins" in tools and then closed Safari. When I reopened Safari it was again selected. I also did not have to enter my 1P master password when reopening Safari. Of course this was only a few seconds later as well.

    Tested with

    Twitter

    Readle Storage

    Apple Development

    Netflix

I actually like the look of the extension now in Safari 5.1. Curious about any progress using Http Authentication and I will watch other forum questions related to that.

Again, using OSX Lion, Safari 5.1 and Extension 3.7.b7, 1Password version 3.7.0

If I understand correctly you'll need to have the latest Beta of 1Password 3.7.1 for the settings to stick properly. To get this, please go to 1Password > Preferences > Updates and check 'Include Beta Versions' and then click 'Check Now' to get the latest update.

That should get things working properly for you.

Glad to hear you're liking the new look, we've been getting some fantastic feedback. HTTP Authentication is simply not possible with the current extensions frameworks in Safari 5.1, we just don't have access to the panels to add 1Password integration or to fill them.

A workaround, while we look into other options for the future, would be to use the Command + \ keyboard shortcut when at a HTTP Auth. prompt, click the arrow next to the item you'd like to use and then mouse-over the password and click to copy this so you can paste it into the HTTP Auth. prompt.

    Hope that helps,

Now using version 3.7.b9 of the extension and basically back to square one. The extension does not remember preferences set when I close Safari 5.1 and sometimes keeps asking for logins even though the login information is stored in 1Password.

If I deselect "Ask to save logins" in the tools menu and close Safari it is again selected when I open Safari.

Version b4 is the only one that seemed to remember preferences.

Since the Beta version I no longer have the problem anymore. Which means that Safari's saving of forms and 1Password and Lion nicely coexist like it always used to.

So, thanks for the quick solution.

    Jack,

Can you make sure that you have 1Password 3.7.1 installed as well as the latest Beta. If you haven't already, please go to 1Password > Check for Updates from within 1Password to check for the latest version. Then, just to be safe restart Safari using Command + Option + Q if you're on Lion or just Command + Q on Snow Leopard.

  • I think the update to 3.7.1 did it. Sorry, missed that in your earlier post. It does seem to working correctly now. Thanks.

I must make a (small) correction to my earlier statement.

There remains 1 website (http://ftdworld.net/) that 1Password keeps bugging me with asking whether I want to save. If you want to check in detail I can give my UserId+Password in a separate/private mail.

It is not of too great importance since with 1 website it is a breeze to just click the "X".

Thank you! We're working around the clock to catch up on our e-mail messages, forum posts, etc., so we're not sure when we'll be able to start investigating site-specific issues. That said, I've made a note of it, and will have a look as soon as I get a chance. In the meantime, instead of clicking the X every time, our latest extension update (we're up to 3.7b10, now) will let you click the "never for this site" option on the autosave bar. I hope that makes things a little bit easier for you.
  • the newest beta did not fix it for me. Bottom line is, if I didn't save the password with 1Password in Lion, then it will continually ask me to save it again, even when it is clearly saved already from 1Password in Snow Leopard.
  • khad
    khad Social Choreographer
I can't reproduce this behavior, lionvegan. Can you please let me know which specific versions you mean when you write "newest beta"? The latest version is actually a stable release as I type this: 1Password 3.7.2.

Safari should update the extension automatically (unless you have explicitly disabled this), but double-check that you are also using 3.7.b10 of the Safari extension.

Are you perhaps confusing Safari saving of your password with 1Password saving it? Saving a password with Safari will not store it in 1Password and vice versa. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, could you try disabling Safari's AutoFill to eliminate the possible confusion while testing?

Instructions are in the User Guide:

    http://help.agilebits.com/1Password3/safari_autofill.html

Please let me know if that helps.
