1P Crashes/Hangs on Quit [FIXED in 3.8.2.BETA-1]
The program was rock steady under snow leopard, however after a recent upgrade to lion it now crashes every time when exiting the program. It just locks and you get the spinning beach ball, the only way to exit the program is to forse quit. It worked fine until the last update that i downloaded today, I am using the latest version of lion and the latest available download of 1password. Lion gives you a crash log to report to apple but it is pages long, if anybody needs it i can upload to dropbox. Anybody got any ideas how to stabilise this issue.

For anyone else experiencing this issue, it should be resolved in 1Password 3.8.2.BETA-1. Please let us know if you are still having trouble after updating to that version (or later).

I've heard a few reports of this issue but I'm not sure of the cause yet. Can you take a Process Sample of 1Password for us during the hanging? To do this, open Activity Monitor, select the 1Password process, and then press the Sample Process button on the toolbar, as shown here:

Many thanks Dave for your help, saved the file as a text file but can't work out how to attach to this post please goto my Dropbox at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1113136/Sample%20of%201Password.txt to download hope this helps.Flag 0

Thanks for the sample, Shylock.
Unfortunately I don't see any clues within the report. It looks like it's stuck in "system land" somewhere.
I hate to recommend voodoo, but the other case I've seen recently for an issue similar to yours went away after a restart. Could you try rebooting your Mac and see if it helps?
If it doesn't help, perhaps there will be a clue in the Crash Report. Please post one or two of them so we can see; you can find them in your ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter folder, named something like "1Password_2011-08-09-154530_Name.crash".Flag 0 -
I done as you asked and looked in the Crashreporter folder and it is empty, nothing in there. Again program works perfectly until you exit then it hangs. I have turned off the Animations as requested by Roustem again with no luck at fixing the problem. Please also note that i load my data file through Dropbox i don't know if this helps. Please see this link http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1113136/crash%20report.rtf for the apple report lion displays when program hangs.Flag 0

Hi,
I experience the exact same behavior. Whenever I try to quit 1Password for Mac it hangs indefinitely and I have to force quit it. After that I receive a crash report.
I attached the hanging process's sample and the crash report to this post.Flag 0 -
I don't have 1Passwords in my Login Items list.Flag 0

The problem seems to be gone under 10.7.1 — at least I was able to quit/restart 1Password a couple of times without a problem. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />Flag 0

Hello nuntz and welcome to the Forums!
Thank you for reporting your experience. It appears that the issue is resolved for some, but not for others.
We will continue to investigate the issue and report any definitive findings.
Cheers!

I have found the problem on my machine, i use and store a lot of PDF files within 1Password. If i open 1password and don't open a PDF it will close with no problems whatsoever. As soon as i touch a PDF file within the program, it will not close and hangs. The problem i think is caused by the Mac Lion program Preview, this is nothing but trouble on my machine and the apple forums are full of it about the crash. Hope this helps anybody having the same problem, what i do now is simply drag the pdf from 1Password into a browser windowFlag 0

After installing the newest update (3.8.1), when I go to shut down my system (27" iMac 2.93 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB Ram) 1Password locks the system forcing me to hold down the power button to turn it off. I tried recreating this on my May 2010 MB Pro 15" SSD system, but everything worked fine. Not certain why this is happening only to my iMac and would like to see if anybody else is having this specific issue. Note: prior to 3.8.1 everything worked fine -- as far as shutting down was concerned.Flag 0

Hello Shylock1966,
Excellent find!
I tested running 1P 3.8.1 (build 31115), and I was able to replicate the crash by opening a .jpg, .tiff, and .pdf file. All were opened by Preview.
In addition, when I relaunched Preview, I had to choose not to restore previous open windows or Preview crashed again.
I was not able to drag any of the files into a browser window to get it to work, but I tried only a couple of methods.
I've passed this along to our developers for investigation. Thank you again for reporting your catch of the day!
Cheers!
Brandt
Update: With Adobe Reader already running, I found that a PDF attachment would open in the Reader without crashing. This fact lends more weight to the thought that the problem may be with Preview. More details will follow when we have them.Flag 0 -
This is a bit of a long shot, but do any of you have this folder on your system?
~/Library/Application Support/1Password/AttachmentsCache
By default, your Library folder is hidden in Finder, but you can access it by holding down the Option key and then deleting "Library" from the Go menu in Finder.

Navigate to Application Support and then 1Password.

If you see the AttachmentsCache folder, quit 1Password and then delete that folder.
Please let me know if that helps you. We are still investigating this.Flag 0 -
Thanks for the update and additional information, lemppari. That really helps. I will pass this along to the developers to see what we can do here. If we need any further information, I hope you will continue to be as helpful as you have been thus far. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

I can verify that after deleting this folder 1Password exits ok. However if I access some attachment (for example I have a one image I frequently need) look at it in Preview and exit preview, the attachmentscache folder is again there and it prevents normal exiting from 1Password.

Hey lemppari,
I'm sorry that you are still experience the AttachmentsCache folder issue even after deletion. I had the same problem that you are experiencing, and I'd like for you to try a couple things that worked for me:
1. Make sure you quit the 1Password application first. It may require a Force Quit. After the 1P app is closed, navigate to the AttachmentsCache folder and "move" any entries "inside" the AttachmentsCache folder to your desktop. After you're done, restart 1Password and try to quit the application.
If quitting 1P still hangs, Force Quit again, then proceed to the next suggestion.
2. Your 1Password installation may be damaged. Uninstalling/reinstalling the 1Password application may be necessary.
To accomplish this:
1. Download 1Password from our web site: http://agilebits.com/downloads Next, click on the "Download Now" button under "1Password 3".
2. Quit your web browser and 1Password, if it's running
3. Open your Applications folder and drag 1Password to the Trash
4. Install the new copy of 1Password you just downloaded
5. Run 1Password and then your web browser
Your information is stored in a data file separate from the application, so it will not be harmed by this procedure.
Step 2 will probably not be sufficient to solve the issue, but please try to quit 1P and see if it works. Presuming it does not work, Force Quit 1Password, and then perform Step 1 a second time.
I am very interested to know if either suggestion works for you. We are narrowing down the cause of this behavior, and your reply will help us immensely.
Cheers!

Hi Brandt and Khad,
I tried to reproduce the error to try things Brandt suggested, but now 1Password seems to be working ok. I open the attachment and exit Preview the folder is there. When I exit 1Password, it exits ok and deleted the folder. I assume that is the correct behaviour.
I wonder why it is working ok now. Yesterday evening it was still hanging. I didn't boot the laptop, just closed the lid and put it to sleep for night.
If the problem appears again I'll let you know.
Cheers,

Hello Kari,
Thanks for updating the thread! I'm very glad to hear that the issue is resolved for you...at least for now. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
Once I deleted the AttachmentsCache the first time, I didn't have to use any of the steps I outlined in my previous post, but I was curious why you continued to experience the problem even after deleting the folder.
So, I retraced my earlier troubleshooting steps to see if there were some other "additional" step that I had performed that seemed unimportant, but may have been relevant. It's great to know that they were unnecessary for you too.
Thank you for reporting the issue and helping us "test" our interim "fix". As Khad mentioned, our developers have tracked down the root cause of the hang that happened to some, but not all users. The odd thing is that the error did not happen consistently for all users running the exact same OS X and 1Password versions. I guess you and I are just unique! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
Cheers!
