Can't delete logins (they come back)

jonscharer
jonscharer Junior Member
I have been having a similar problem. I have three devices: Macbook Air, iPad, iPhone. All have 1Password installed and linked to DropBox. For some reason I have triplicate entries for all logins, so I have been systematically deleting two of the three. Yesterday I deleted a whole bunch, and at the end of the day they were gone. This morning, I rebooted by Macbook Air, and after the reboot, the deleted items showed up again. I have been redeleting them, but after a few minutes they show up again. I only have one keychain stored in DropBox, and only my MacBook Air is currently running 1Password (the app is not running on either the iPad or iPhone).

In addition, in the sync area on my Macbook Air, I have 5 items: DropBox, iPad, iPhone, iPad, iPad. I have tried deleting the iDevices, but after a few seconds they show up again in the list. I will delete them, empty the trash, and viola - they are in the list again.

    Hello,

    Using dropbox,

    Lion 10.7.1

    1P 3.8.1

    extension safari 3.7

The trash does not empty, it does for a while, then the trashed items reappear in its former folder, either login, generated password or other

please include a SECURE EMPTY TRASH

    for very evident security reasons

    Thanks

    Hello,

    for whatever reason

it seems to relate to sync between Lion and Snow Leopard

    I am using dropbox

Items remain deleted, if I only go from Lion to Lion on two computer

But I see them reappear (deletd items) when I connect o a computer running SNow Leopard (which only happens about once a day or every two days

That may be something to look for, or would it be dropbox !! ??

    Thanks
  • I'm using version 3.8.1 with OS 10.7.1 Lion. I have attempted to delete a password which goes to the trash folder/icon properly however when I "empty the trash" form there the item disappears but when I relaunch the app it always reappears in the trash. When I select empty trash I get the pop up asking if this is what I want to do and click on ok, the item disappears but always come back again. Is there something I'm doing wrong here? I use Dropbox and 1Password to sync all our computers.
  • Yes. Trash reappears. Using Snow Leopard on desktop. Lion on laptop. Also 1Password apps on iPhone and iPad. Anyone found a workaround?

    Weird guess,

can it have something to do with "cache"

and can "cleaning cache" from the help troubleshooting have an effect (I don't know what goes in "cache" !!)

    Maybe ??

    Hi

    OS X 10.7.1

    1P 3.8.1

Dropbox sync with iPhone & iPad

Am facing the same problem, every time I delete something from 1P, it quickly reappears!!! Had worked on a large number of changes an hour back... Now they are all restored to original values!!!

Tried a data file rebuild & clearing the cache. Even app & system restarts between a few changes. No luck.

    Any resolution, anybody?

  • Hello everyone,

We've had reports of the Trash reappearing with some users. I experienced the same problem for a while myself.

The primary fix has been to uninstall any browser extensions, empty the Trash, and then reinstall any browser extensions.

However, in my case, I found that my issue was possibly related to a subfolder in my user library. If the previous fix does not work for you, please close the 1Password application and then use Finder to navigate to the following folder: ~/Library/Application Support/1Password/AttachmentsCache. If there are any files in that folder, please delete them, and let us know if either method works for you.

    Cheers!

    Hello,

The primary trick was tried many times,

it remains a trick... something else may be wrong..or... is wrong

as I have a generated password that keeps reappearing for weeks in the generated password file

even after doing your trick about 3 times

For your other solution ~/Library/Application Support/1Password/AttachmentsCache

    I don't have such a folder

Again, I would strongly suggest a "secure delete" that really destroys the intended file or password to delete

    Thanks

I have 1Password installed on a Macbook Air running Lion, an iPad, and an iPhone. Until yesterday, I was syncing using DropBox. For some reason, I noticed a couple of weeks ago that i had triplicate entries for each Login. I have spent several days deleting the duplicates, but they kept reappearing. So I took the approach of deleting about 2 dozen duplicates, emptying the track, then making a backup. I thought the reappearing items might have something to do with Dropbox sync'ing, so I deleted the keychain and backups from dropbox, changed to a local database and wifi syncing, deleted my local keychains (at least I thought i did) and started from scratch with a blank database. I even deleted the apps off of the iDevices and wiped out the associated data. Yesterday, I restored a backup to my Mac and it appeared stable - no duplicate or triplicate entries the entire afternoon and evening. I sync'd over wifi with the iPad and iPhone, and everything appeared fine. Again, no duplicate entries for the rest of day, even after the wifi sync. Today, I opened 1Password on the Mac, and I had triplicate entries again, including multiple entries in the sync section, as though my database had been merged with one of the old versions that I had deleted.

I have the latest version of 1Password (Version 3.8.1 (build 31115) and the latest plugins installed for Safari, Firefox, and Chrome.

    I am getting very frustrated!

After reading another post that covered a related topic (items reappearing in trash), I tried the following (on my Mac):

    1. Removed all browser extensions (Safari 5.1, Firefox 6, Chrome)

    2. Restored from a backup (that did not have duplicates)

    3. Re-installed the browser extensions (first Safari then Firefox)

The approach succeeded until I installed the Firefox extension, then the duplicate logins reappeared. So, I removed the browser extensions, restored from a backup, the only re-installed the browser extension for Safari. So far, so good - no duplicates. Seems the problem relates either to the Firefox extension or the fact that I had extensions for more than one browser. (I haven't tried removing the Safari extension and only installing the one for Firefox.)
  • Hi

Resolution worked for me. But now am scared to install the extensions on Safari & Firefox.

Is it safe to use them?

BTW the folder does not exist.

Okay, I have confirmed it - installing the Firefox 6 extension results in triplicate login entries. Duplication does not happen with the Safari and/or Chrome extensions, but upon installing the Firefox 6 extension duplication results immediately. Since I like Firefox, I would be interested in finding out if there is a workaround.

    Hi jonscharer,

Sorry for the delayed reply. I've heard some reports of this being tied to Safari or Firefox being left open on one of the computers while deleting items. Please try this for me:

Close 1Password and all web browsers on all of your computers and devices. Then, open the main 1Password app on just one of your computers. Select Help > Troubleshooting > Clear Cache. Now, make the required changes. Once the changes are made, again select Help > Troubleshooting > Clear Cache. Then, select Help > Troubleshooting > Rebuild Data File.

This should make the changes you want, and force a complete re-sync of the 1Password database across all devices syncing with Dropbox. Once Dropbox finishes syncing, you can launch 1Password on the other devices.

    I hope that helps.

I have a strange problem, in the latest day I'm *delete* some old logins, empty the trash and then create new ones with new users/password... and just now I see that come back the deleted logins. I tried the "Clear cache" and "Rebuild data file..." without success and now I have duplicated x2 or x3 logins to the same sites. Really weird.

    details:

1P: Version 3.8.1 (build 31115), beta updates enable

OS: Mac OS X Lion 10.7.1

Primary browser: Chrome 14.0.835.94 beta channel

    Chrome extension: 1Password Beta - Version: 3.8.1.31019

an idea, as it just happened again

I log-out with Safari opened, and was using 1P just prior loggin out

when I log back in, my shortcuts (customs) did not work and a deleted items pop out in my generated password folder again

Could it be related to Lion, reopening evrything as it was ???

just an idea for you to check or verify

    Thanks
  • This is very similar behavior to what I experienced using 1P v 3.7.5. I just started syncing via Dropbox, between two SL 10.6.8 machines, and had just turned on browser extensions, for Safari in particular.

The cause of my symptoms was attributed to the browser extensions....

I'm now on 1P 3.8.1, with no browser extensions installed, and not yet syncing via Dropbox. I've recovered/rebuilt my database, and am currently just using it as a "stand-alone" password tracker. The good news is that it appears very, very stable and reliable in this configuration.

I'll be starting up the Dropbox sync next, and will let that mode simmer for a while. If it seems stable, I'll let this post know, and finally turn on browser extensions. I'll keep this thread informed.

    cheers!

I will try this and let you know what happens. In the meantime, I created a separate topic on this (the only topic created by me - jonscharer). As far as I can tell, the problem only occurs when I install the Firefox extension; it is independent of wifi or dropbox sync'ing and Safari/Chrome. I will see if your suggestions enable me to install the Firefox extension as well.

    Thanks,

    Hi Rezzo,

This was a known issue with the older version of the 1Password, I'm not sure why it is still occurring. Have you already try to reinstall the chrome extension manually?

    Please try the following:

Open Chrome, right click on the 1Password icon to uninstall it

Close Chrome and then open the main 1Password app and select Help > Troubleshooting > Rebuild data file

Open Chrome again and go to the extensions site here, please check the "Allow Beta extension on the right side and then press the download button for Chrome

Log into 1Password in Chrome and see if everything works better now.
I hope that helps, please let me know.
  • I was having a similar issue. I would delete logins and empty the trash, then when I'd use the plugin in Firefox, the logins would reappear, but this seems so far to have worked for me...

Delete the plugins for the browsers. Close 1Password and the browsers. Go to ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles delete the file named OnePassword.sqlite Restart 1Password and Firefox, reinstall the beta plugin from http://help.agilebits.com/1Password3/extension/mac.html

    Hope it helps someone. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I am doing some house cleaning of my items.

Folders when empty reappear when deleted.

    Trash reappears when deleted.

Have tried all the suggestions offered here...nothing solved.

    Hi guys,

We're looking into this. Is everybody that have this issue using Firefox?

For those wondering about why those items come back, this isn't related to Dropbox or the Trash (we do securely empty the trash). When you use our new extensions, we create a local encrypted database in each browser and sync between the 1Password database and the extensions in a secure way. This is done because the browsers are now more secure with the extensions being sandboxed from the browsers, websites and from your file system.

Somewhere in the communication between the extension and 1Password, when you empty the trash, the extension database didn't know about it. When it detects it has a few logins that your 1Password database don't (because it was deleted), it sync it back.

If we can confirm that this is restricted to Firefox, we can find the cause fairly quickly.

According to Brandt (bswins), he was able to confirm that by moving the OnePassword.sqlite file out of the Profiles folder, it'll fix the Trash issue. Thanks to MrCmonster for the suggestion.

    Please try the following:

Quit Firefox and 1Password

Open Finder, use the Go Menu > Go To Finder and type or paste in the following path
~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles

Move the OnePassword.sqlite file to the desktop

Open 1Password, confirm the items are still deleted, if not, delete them again

Open Firefox and see if that'll work now.
I have this problem.

    Mac OSX 10.6.8

    Firefox 6

    1Password 3.8.1

When I empty trash (from 1Password.app), the contents come back after a while. The same thing happens for a duplicate login item, which I've tried deleting several times.

This all started when updating to Firefox 6, the new extension and 1Password to 3.8. I think.

Yeah this is killing me now.

I have pinpointed this issue to Safari.

Safari is my 2nd browser, which isn't open all the time.

Every time I open Safari, all the deleted login items come back from the dead. All the way back to the main 1Password.app.

I have tried the Help -> troubleshooting -> and doing every step there including clearing cache, restarting agent, rebuilding data file etc.

What the heck could I do!

PS. My firefox extension is the newest beta one, Safari extension 3.8.1b.

For what it's worth, my Safari extension was 3.7 only half an hour ago. I noticed that and upgraded it in the hopes that it would rectify my problem. It didn't.

This is getting ridiculous. I've now done some more debugging.

When Firefox 6 is closed, not running at all, and I use only Safari 5.1, the duplicate entries don't come back from the dead. They do not appear in the 1Password.app.

When Firefox 6 is open and running at the same time as Safari 5.1, the duplicate entries come back from the dead.

    I mean, let me clarify:

If I now delete the duplicate login items, restart my computer and open Safari 5.1. The duplicate entries don't come back.

If I delete the duplicate login items, restart my computer, open Firefox 6, at this point in time the duplicate items don't come back, but the moment I open Safari 5.1 and both Safari 5.1 and Firefox 6 are open at the same time, the duplicate login items appear in all Firefox 6's 1P-menubar icon, as does in Safari 5.1's and also in 1Password.app's.

I have now tried several times uninstalling Firefox 6 1P extension, Safari 5.1 extension and doing the troubleshoot thingies from 1Password.app, nothing has helped.

    Crap. Help me <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_sweating.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='(sweat)' />

    Hi folks,

We're aware of this bug, and it appears to be particularly tricky in Firefox 6.

We hope to have this fixed soon, but in the mean time, the way to delete items (and I realize it's a pain, sorry) is:

Uninstall (yes, uninstall, not disable) both the Safari and Firefox 1Password extension. Launch 1Password and make your edits. Clear the cache, and rebuild the data file. Now reinstall the Safari and Firefox extensions. The problem appears to be that deletions are not syncing to the extensions databases and so when you launch them, they see that they have items that the main database does not have and syncs them over.
