Competition? [Is anyone else ready to quit 1P?]
That's the answer Agile. First time someone mentions enough "frustration" (do a word check in your forums...this is up near the top of the count list) that makes them want to look at the competition, you lock up the topic and tell them "that's not appropriate here". Then you claim, "gee, you didn't list what your problem was".
In a nutshell, here's my problem. Now that I've upgraded both 1Password and the Firefox 6 extension, NOTHING works with my 1Password (autosaves...no; autosubmits...no, etc.)...not to mention the tinker toy Firefox extension that's full of bugs, as well. I realize you're probably going nuts trying to read all the complaints, but if you don't fix it soon, you're not going to be considered in the "competition" any longer. A business that is not responsive to customer needs eventually goes out of business. Hoping that's not the case here, but I've been right about 90% of the time I've predicted it.
I'd be happy to forget the Firefox 6 extension and just get my 1Password app working again....would love to know how to downgrade to the previous version of 1Password.

You haven't followed Agile's doings long enough then.
They are one of the greatest developers out there. They are doing everything they can as soon as they can. Things are so broken right now that they can't fix it all within 24 hours. They are constantly updating the extensions and 1Password.app.
I would bet $100k that your prediction does not come true. 1Password was the best password manager on Mac/iOS (haven't used much Win-version). It currently has nasty bugs and flaws, mostly because of the new extensions, but all that will be sorted out in due time. And then 1Password is again on the top.
What, has the new Firefox extension been out in the wild for a week now? Yeah, if things aren't better in a month, then I'm going to be disappointed.
And for what it's worth, 1Password is definitely one of my most used apps, I store all my logins and other stuff in it. I just seem to have so much more faith in the Agile team than you do.Flag 0 -
Thanks for the kind words, mixture! We really appreciate your patience and support. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
Welcome to the forums, kmattsdad. I would love to get things working well for you. We just pushed a few more updates which resolve a number of issues in the Firefox extension. If you are not already using the beta extension in Firefox, please download the beta extension for Firefox. While autosave is not yet supported in Firefox 6, manual save is working well. Autosave is coming soon.
If you are just blowing off steam, I understand, but if you are actually interested in getting things working properly, please try updating to the beta extension and let me know how it goes.
We are always here to help, and this time is no exception! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />Flag 0 -

I mention the competition often enough in the 1P forums that I was contacted about it off-board a few months ago. It turned into conversation that's gone on intermittently for a while now. It's been respectful and professional throughout, and the Agile rep made it clear early on that I was NOT being threatened with being banned from the forums. Nor have I seen any of my comments stricken.
It's a pretty tumultuous period right now. Evernote, which I think is a bit larger than AgileBits, still has no functioning extension for Safari 5.1. It's plain that just keeping up with the changes is a challenge, never mind making forward progress.Flag 0 -
The whole taking about the competition thing is a matter of respect. This isn't really an appropriate venue to talk about that. There are plenty of reviews sites etc out there that do comparisons of software, if you are looking for that kind of information. This is a place to come get help with 1Password and other Agile Web Solutions products.
Unlike many other companies we really do take our user's feedback to heart. For a recent example, take a look at what our original Safari 5.1 extension looked like compared to what it looks like now. Vastly different. That was the result of user feedback, primarily right here on the forums.
We're working very hard on the new browser extensions and our ears are still open. Specific feedback though is much more useful than "it sucks" and "it doesn't work." Give us something to work with, please! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0 -
Ben—
From time to time, a customer will post in your forums that they really need to do X but 1Password can't do it, and a moderator will respond that it's a feature that is being looked at but you can't talk about a timeline until you have something to announce.
There is a product that I consider to be a COMPLEMENT to 1Password because it provides an effective solution to many of these sorts of problems. I consider it to be RESPECT to point out in such forum threads how to use this COMPLEMENTARY product to meet the customer's need until (or—gasp—unless) AgileBits comes out with its own solution.
From where you sit, that product is COMPETITION. From where I sit, it isn't so black-and-white, because while the two products have significant overlaps they aren't substitutes. I can well understand why you wouldn't want to promote this COMPETING product, but IMO you would be doing your users no favor were you to spike my posts in those threads. As a wise man once said,
Helping other people be secure is a good thing in and of itself. But there is also a selfish motivation: Your security is my security.
I don't disagree. My post was directed at the OP. The type of thread I find disrespectful is the ones where the person says "1Password sucks, I'm looking for an alternative. Any recommendations?" That's like walking into a McDonalds and asking where the nearest Burger King is. Granted, Burger King has some really awesome fries, but it's just not polite, you know?Flag 0 -
Competition? AgileBits doesn't have any as far as I'm concerned. They don't complain about others, Apple, or even me (well, maybe among themselves <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/emoticon-0136-giggle.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='(giggle)' /> ). They just get to work and move ahead. The two founders are among the nicest people you'll ever meet, and so is the AgileBits team.Flag 0

I've had the occasion to use the Windows extension in demo mode, and although I didn't expect much, it actually works quite well. Since I use Dropbox for my keychain, it's only a matter of installing 1P and Dropbox, logging into Dropbox, wait an hour or so for the DB sync to complete, launch 1P, select use existing keychain, point to DB and I'm all set - my 500 logins are right there for me. Very convenient.
As to the problems with the Firefox extension, I've been using Safari 5.1 for those sites that need my attention. The others that don't need logging into I use Firefox 6 and it's great tab groups. I'll keep doing this until AgileBits gets things resolved. I am *sure* they will.

So the new browser plugin doesn't work on several of the sites I use. The new workflow is to open 1Password and copy paste for several sites. Sent in a support request and never heard back.
It constantly has some "problem with the database" forcing me to restart Safari.
Today I had to create a new password for my credit card, and it generated the new password, didn't save it, and I can't find it anywhere in the generated list. So now I have no way to know what my password is.
1Password's website says don't bother emailing us, we are at least 7 days out on support issues.
This is disappointing.Flag 0 -
Yes I'm definitely on the lookout for a replacement application right now. I'm gonna give RoboForm a try for sure.
Nothing from the answers posted by moderators/administrators in response to complaints is making me feel like they truly "GET IT". It's all about this """great""" new "unified" design, and they keep ignoring customer complaints and not making basic functionality their priority. ANYONE FROM AGILE HERE? THE NEW DESIGN IS NOT MAKING PEOPLE HAPPY!!! WE WANT SOMETHING THAT "JUST WORKS". This lack of acknowledgement alone is reason enough not to use their product ever again.Flag 0 -
Hi folks,
We certainly hear you. Our top priority right now is getting the functionality you are requesting back into the Firefox 6 and Safari 5.1 extensions. We've acknowledged this in a number of threads here on the forums. We're working on it, and we've already come a long way based on user feedback from the initial offerings on Lion. We're pushing updates as soon as they become available.
Thanks

Please do not include me in your "WE". Using FF7 and whatever the latest 1P builds are and it's all going swimmingly. So WE LOVE IT, ARE REALLY HAPPY AND PLEASE AGILE KEEP MAKING THE CHANGES.
Also it's not the devs and mods not listening or ignoring - half the time it's people here not liking the answers or not being able to understand the answers. Banging on about the same thing in multiple threads wont change things any quicker. But I guess it's a sort of cathartic process...Flag 0 -
I'm with you. Lost passwords, failed logins, cut/paste failures, lost accounts...
I'm pretty close to having lost, in time and dollars, everything I had saved up to date when 1password worked. It would have been a bigger time savings if I'd never used 1password.
I'm not walking yet. But agile needs to understand that the conversion to the new browser plugin was grossly premature. At the moment, you're not delivering on the promises we signed up for. And the situation doesn't seem to be improving.
One of the mixed blessings of having a fanatical support base is that we're just as passionate, perhaps even more so, when the thing we like is taken away from us.Flag 0 -
There is nothing to like about the new extension. Functions that were previously available with a click and drag now require several clicks—if they work at all. I don't understand why something that worked so well had to be rewritten. I see there are a couple of new players in the password game; gonna check them out.Flag 0

Lets please keep our posts respectful and polite. I realize this is "the interwebs," but it isn't 4chan.
If anyone is having technical difficulties or isn't sure how to do something I invite them to start a new thread explaining what the difficulty is and we will do our best to assist.
As with anything as software evolves there are bound to be changes. Some of these changes may initially be perceived as good or bad, but ultimately they are necessary for the survival of the product. That said, we are always open to user feedback, we just ask that you not create duplicate/repetitious threads.
Thanks!

Thanx Ben for your lesson on disrespectfulness and politeness.
In the very same sense s.o. can think of how disrespectful it is towards a paying customer, that a new version is published obviously without proper quality ensurance and testing - otherwise all these bugs can't be explained at all.
How respectful is it towards a customer who has paid for a product not to offer an appropriate intermediate time period for old and new product to work in parallel?
Maybe one can think of how polite a customer perceives Agilebit staff telling him that the new development framework is great with all those benefits while the customer just notices the opposite.
How polite its it from Agilebit to lock a forum thread in order to get rid of critical discussion (as happened yesterday) encouraging to open a new thread if required and at the same time complaining about duplicate/repetitious threads?
I have personally seen service oriented staff of one company that told me about a product from another one that I should look into as it would fit my needs better.

So what is it that you guys assist with? I have the very same problems as every other Firefox user here in the forum, do I have to repeat these same problems (which you don't like that much) - here you go: no saving of new logins from Firefox, no form filling, no auto-login recognition - simply all the features that have worked nicely in the FF toolbar and that we have paid for...
And now? Maybe I haven't seen a solution that was already posted to all of these issues. I'm looking forward to your very best effort to assist - as many others here on the forum, too.

How respectful and polite is it from an Agilebit employee to assume that a customer can't distinguish between a bad perception of a necessary change and a not working buggy and untested product?
Now that I have shared with you my views on respect and politeness I'm looking forward to your assistance on the technical issues I have come up with.

Hey guys, I just wanted to weigh in here. Thanks to everyone for both the affirmation and criticism, and for keeping it civil. All of the feedback helps us see where we are doing a good job and where our focus needs to be. I think that whatever else, we can all agree that 1Password is a huge part of our workflows. This is why we are all so passionate, and why change is hard.
What are the chances of getting the old, functional plugin working again? It might be worth going back to an older version of firefox to get it.
Mozilla did what they needed to do and released Firefox 6 when it was ready. We released our new Firefox extension in order to support it, since the old extension is simply not viable going forward. This was a necessary change, and while it is a bit rough right now it will mean smoother transitions going forward. Specifically, we needed to rebuild the extension for ever new release previously. When these were two or three a year, it wasn't a huge deal. But with new versions coming roughly ever six weeks now, we need to make sure that none of us has to go through this on an almost monthly basis going forward. I am sorry for the inconvenience, but with a little luck and a lot of hard work we will have this where it needs to be soon, and as a result the next major release will go that much more smoothly by comparison.

If you are experiencing a specific issue I would love to help you with it. Just let me know what steps you are taking and what is or is not happening as you expect. In some cases, it is just a matter of getting used to a new way of doing things, but if something is not working as designed we need to know about it so that we can either help you get it working or fix it.Flag 0 -

The old and new product do indeed work in parallel. Older versions of 1Password continue to work as they always have on older versions of Firefox. In particular, if folks are having major difficulties, we suggest Firefox 3.6. This version of Firefox is still supported by Mozilla, and 1Password works with it exactly as it always used to. Perhaps this is the temporary work-around you are looking for?

When a thread is no longer productive, or is becoming disjointed or difficult to manage, it only makes sense to discontinue it and move any lingering issues to new threads.

These are what we call in the software development world "known issues" or "bugs." They are discussed in a number of threads aleady. There isn't anything we as customer service folks can do other than let our developers know about them in as much detail as possible. We've let our developers know, and they are working very hard to fix each of the issues you mentioned. I understand your passion and frustration with these issues, but creating multiple threads about them doesn't help get them resolved any quicker (if anything, the opposite).

Particularly the last paragraph.
We have a lot of great stuff coming up, including fixes to many of the common complaints.
Contextual menus? Working in the latest beta. The issue with iframes is also fixed. Autosave is coming along nicely and we should see that fully fixed soon.
We are making progress, I promise, and I apologize for any frustration experienced along the road.Flag 0
