The Agile Store now shows the updated price. https://agilebits.com/store

We're extending the promo for a bit longer at the MAS and for now, it'll be $24.95.
  • Thanks for the warning guys. (But it would have been nicer if you posted it a few days ago!!!!!!!!......very uncool.)

We did, actually. Both here and on Twitter. But I've never actually seen a company advertise a price increase before? <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
  • It would have been nice to get something from you about the Mac App Store only route. I just found out today (I do not usually come to these forums, so I saw it on the Mac App Store today, never bothered looking before). The price went from 19.95 to 24.95 from the time I found out to to the time I was going to purchase. I have a license for 1Password and have been using it since 2008. I am wondering why I was never informed of what was happening? While it is only a $5 difference, it's not a great way to do business.

I have no problem with you being Mac Store Only now, just wish I could have found out sooner.

I would just like to echo this. I've used (and told others about) 1Password for years, and would've happily purchased the Mac App Store version for $20. I just today heard about your move to the App Store, and I really wish you would've emailed me about the move (and the discount). Now I feel like I'm going to pay a price penalty for not following your twitter account.

Greedy bunch these Agile guys. Wanting $5 more even when the $20 sale didn't last very long.

    Hating you.

For the record, I'm laughing my ass off when 4.0 hits MAS and it's not available as a standalone Sparkle version..

The Agile guys will have a hell on their hands when people want to get a nice discount on the upgrade...

And hey, what is this business, $50 for 1Password for Mac (non-MAS).

Isn't that crazily overpriced anyway? $29.99 would sound more like a fair price point, normal price I mean.

I do wonder what sort of a guy make these business decisions over at Agile.

To be honest, I'm just so frigging disappointed in this whole situation. I thought the sucky new browser extensions would be the worst that has ever happened to 1P and I honestly thought they will be fixed soon. Firefox autosave still not working, great.

But then to top all of that off with the imbecile decision of going MAS only in the future and also increasing the price on the app on the whole.

    1Password is a nice tool, but it ain't worth $50 !!

mixture...I think you made it abundantly clear you're disappointed "Hating you" pretty much sums everything up unequivocally <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />
  • I saw twitter posts for 2 days that the price was going up. I even posted that the price was going up but the post was deleted by a moderator for other reasons than the price reference.
  • I am getting a iTunes card next week, plz keep the promo up!!!!

Never said they were greedy, or anything like that. In fact I do not think that they are. The move to slowly raise the price is actually a very good way to do it. The only thing I am a little upset about was not even getting notice about the whole move to the mac AppStore and limited sale to begin with. While posting stuff in the forum and twitter is fine, what about those of us who did not visit these forums before, or subscribe to the twitter feed? They do have my email as I registered the product with them. An email would have been appreciated. That's all I am saying.

    MAS now includes these statements

for a limited time only 50% off

$24.95
Does this mean the new price is $50

The retail price is reflected on our own store, yes: https://agilebits.com/store

This leads to the following questions (separate thread or not is up to you)

When i go to your store there are a number of upgrades and combination packs. I chose to ask it what my license was to show me all the upgrade paths. I have a key for 1PW2 and 1PW3 but am now on 3.9 so no key for it.

Your store says I have a 1PW2 key and tells me how to get to 1PW3. Not very useful.

I'm interested in an upgrade path from 3.9. Can I buy a bundle for MAC and Windows (at a discount since I'm already entitled to 4.0 for free by way of owning MAS 3.9).? How do I buy a bundle that includes 3.9 and Windows?

Are there upgrade paths to bundles?

Are there upgrade paths from single to family?

Are the prices quoted limited time offers?

    Ben,

Does the MAS offer still include the free upgrade to 1Password 4.0, as it is no longer mentioned on MAS?

Why raise the price now when people are getting less value from the application than ever before what with the new MAS limitations, excised features, browsers that are no longer supported, and the new flaky extension system?

    Those being?
excised features
Again, name one. I'm unaware of any features being removed from 3.9 and I owned 3.8 prior to purchasing it.
browsers that are no longer supported
Firefox, Chrome and Safari. What else did you need?
and the new flaky extension system?
The last I heard the extensions were separate from the main app and updated themselves. 3.9 is an upgrade for the main app, not the extensions.

Our store is completely independent of the MAS. We are still selling 1P 3.8.x in our store and do not plan on selling 3.9 there. 3.9 must be purchased from the MAS and cannot be combined into any bundles, and none of our promos or discounts apply to it.

Prices are always subject to change.
  • Version 4 better be something amazing otherwise you are going to have a very large amount of very unhappy customers.

Very poor that we were not noticed via Email. Very arrogant to to think all your customers read your Twitter feed.

Very slightly OT - but - I'm getting an iPad2 and came here wondering if there were any special deals for existing 1P (long time) users???

In light of price increases and a lot of noise here - I would guess that answer is NO.

Unfortunately it is not possible for us to discount apps sold from the iTunes App Store. Everyone pays the same price.

I would still like to know why an email was not sent out to those who are registered users informing of the switch, and the discounted app in the MAS? It seems like something simple that could have beendone to let users like mem who do not frequent the forums (or who did not), to learn of this new system. Instead you left us to figure it out on our own. Depending on when you figure it out, that is how much you will pay for the upgrade.

Again, I have no problem with the decision itself, and I love the product and have no problem paying to upgrade, whether it was before or after the MAS version became available does not matter, it just seems that it should have happened.

I am sorry about that. Sending out a newsletter usually generates a few thousand reply emails in a single day and our Inbox is currently still at 700+.

Maybe we should've sent a newsletter from no-reply@ address but we never did that before.

Thanks for saying this. I do think that would have been good - sending a newsletter from the no-reply address. I was lucky. I had just installed the 3.8.3 (or whatever came before 3.8.5) the night of the day the MAS store deal happened. I saw the promotional graphic on the MAS and came straight to the forums. But it's entirely possible I could have missed it. Anyway, good luck with the inbox!

If 1P 3.9 onwards is MAS only why don't you just removed your 1P3 on your site and redirect them to the appstore? this way you're doing a favor to all of your new customer and less confusion too. you guys are the one creating confusion and hate here in the forum for being not straightforward with the answers. when i think everything is cooling down you guys bump the price again. I'm just posting my opinion here. I'm not complaining about the price. i bought both version. so disappointed to your buss plan and PR to post here.

Because 3.9 is Lion only and there are plenty of people that still run Snow Leopard or prior systems.

I don't know whether they should REMOVE 3.8.x sales, but I do think a note about MAS availability is warranted. Otherwise AgileBits is creating a situation where users who may not know that 1PW is in the MAS, will buy from the AgileBits Store, and possibly be unhappy not knowing that 3.8.x is dead-ended.

I would highly recommend that AgileBits make it clear somewhere prominently on the product page and the store page, that 1PW is available from the MAS, and furthermore that future versions will only be available via MAS.

But it should be clear. They do advertise that 3.8.x is Lion compatible, very prominently. If I were a new customer and bought 3.8.x here, and then found out later via the fora that I had bought a product that is not going to be extensively upgraded, I would be angry, and rightly so. It's not fair to withhold this information, or bury it in the fora.
