Firefox 8 - 1Password doesn't work
Didn't realize that I was going to be living without 1Password when I let Firefox do its latest update. Is there an ETA on an update for 1Password that will re-enable the ability to use with Firefox?

Can you release beta version of 1Password with compatibility of new Firefox version before it's released?
I have problem with 1Pass compatibility every new FF releaseFlag 0 -
Ah, if only we had unlimited resources...
Barring that, we will continue to confirm compatibility with only the current non-Beta releases of the supported browsers and try to release updated extensions within 24 hours of each browser release.
That practice is precisely why you have a problem with compatibility with each release of Firefox, for instance. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0 -
So......how did that end up, David.......I can't seem to use the 1Password troublshooting app with my version of OS 10.5.8 and I seem to be running in a maze.....can't use FF8, can't use the troubleshooting guide, can't use 1PW except with Safari....what should I do? I can't put Lion on this Mac.......Flag 0

I don't understand why you all have to create a new version of 1Password every single time Firefox does an update.
Does Firefox really change that much about their underlying addon framework every time they do an update?
Except for 1Password, almost all of my other addons have continued to work across all of my Firefox versions even after updating. For example, FireGestures (which is an addon I can't live without) hasn't even been updated since August 17, 2011, and yet it's working just fine in Firefox 8.
Firefox has been rolling out new updates very rapidly in the past couple of months. Isn't there anything you all can do to enable it so 1Password at least *tries* to run on new versions of Firefox before just claiming it isn't compatible and refusing to run?Flag 0 -
I don't understand why, either, Tom, but that's why they have me doing support rather than development. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' /> It doesn't really matter which other add-ons work fine in Firefox 8, as they're probably not communicating with Firefox in the same way as 1Password. It'd be kinda like expecting Adobe Photoshop to work in a particular way just because Microsoft Word does...it's different software from different companies doing different things.
That said, I can tell you that we're working on some changes to the extension technology that will set us free from the need to update the extension with every new browser release, but it's a major change, the work is still in the early phases, and we're a very small team with a lot of demands on our time.
Thanks for your patience!Flag 0 -

Hi, tbfa.
You've posted this in the 1Password for Windows forum. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />
I ask that you post your question in one of the 1Password for Mac forums, instead:
No. We do not support the Firefox beta channel because it is a moving target, and our time and resources are limited.

I understand, but the problem is with the Firefox 6-week release cycle. For us extension developers, this is a nightmare too.Flag 0 -

You guys should start working with beta releases internally so when an update is released your users won't have any transition problems.
We do not support the Firefox beta channel because doing so would require weekly updates. We rather spend our limited time and resources elsewhere. During the beta phase, trying to support Firefox is like trying to hit a moving target. As soon as a new Firefox release build arrives (read: every 6 weeks), we usually support this within 24 hours.Flag 0 -

We're working on a new JavaScript-based (non-binary) extension architecture. This has not arrived on Windows yet, but it is in the pipeline.

I really need update for Firefox too. I have 2 days no option to fill my passwords online. I am starting considering KeePass <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />. 1Password is better in many ways, but this is something, what I could not handle and I paid for this app on PC and iPhone.Flag 0

Stefan and David - thanks for your hard work to keep this great product running as well as possible. I just recently made the switch from IE to FF, so this is the first time that I've probably been prompted to update FF as soon as it released. I'll know for next time to give it a couple of days before I update.
Hope you all have a great day! I'll be watching for the new update today / tomorrow.Flag 0 -

Hi, I'm new here, so please excuse me just butting in, but I cannot get 1Password to install into Firefox 8.0.
There is no 1Password extension or plugin listed in the Add-Ons lists.
Every time I install a new version of 1Password, I see some reference in the installer to Firefox, and I get hopeful that just maybe, this time, the extension has been installed.
Any ideas how to get this to work?
Thanks
Susi
EDIT:
I'm dumb. It wasn't ticked in the preferences>browsers section.
I would have staked my life on it being ticked.
Sheesh!! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />Flag 0 -
Well...this certainly has been a frustrating exercise! I am not able to set up 1Password Pro (Windows) with Firefox 8. I've read all that I can find and still no luck. When I go into Preferences...Browsers and check Firefox the "profile" button stays greyed out. I tried browsing for the Firefox exe. and chose that but that didn't work. Nothing I have tried has worked. Obviously I don't have a 1P button in Firefox.
I was able to set up Chrome with just one run-through but it is Firefox that I use as my main browser.Flag 0 -
Welcome to the forum, bbmountain!
I believe the Profile button being "greyed out" (disabled) means that 1Password is finding only one Firefox profile.
Can you tell us which of the tips in these articles you've tried?

Hi DBrown!
I had actually tried all 3 articles (I had seen one of your previous posts.) I think I've about given up on this...spent way too many hours <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_sadsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-(' />
I'm using Vista...if that makes any difference. Here are some observations:
Control+\ does nothing. There isn't a 1Password extension listed among my installed Firefox extensions.
3rd party extensions are enabled in the Control Panel and there's no 1 Password extension in the list of extensions under Manage Add-ons.
BUT...if I uncheck Firefox under the Browers tab in 1Password and click OK...I get a message saying that to uninstall an extension that I need to close out of Firefox first!! All indications seem to be that there isn't a 1Password extension to be uninstalled!!Flag 0 -
That would be: 1.0.9.235Flag 0

Sounds like the Firefox profile you're running is different from the Firefox profile we're installing our extension into.
Please right-click your Firefox shortcut, and then select "Properties" from the drop-down menu. Click on the "Shortcut" tab and please write down the path to the Firefox executable.
Launch 1Password, go into the Preferences (Ctrl+P) and click the "Browsers" tab. Make sure Firefox is NOT checked (otherwise, please uncheck it, click the OK button, and return to the Preferences). Click on the "Browse" button and make sure it is identical to the path you wrote down in the step above. If it is not identical, select firefox.exe from the location your Firefox shortcut points to.
Now that we're sure 1Password knows about your Firefox.exe location, it is time to look at your Firefox shortcut again. Are there any command-line arguments passed to firefox.exe? If yes, then you might be running a Firefox profile unknown to the Firefox profile manager. This is uncommon, it happens. In this case, you need to follow these steps:
1. Make sure Firefox is NOT checked (otherwise, please uncheck it, click the OK button, and return to the Preferences).
2. Check the Firefox checkbox
3. Click the "Profile(s)" button
4. Click the "Add" button
5. Select the Profile directory that is being passed to your Firefox shortcut as a command-line argument
6. Click the "OK" button
Thanks, Stefan.Flag 0 -
Thanks Stefan.
My shortcut points to: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe so I changed the path to that.
For the next step, I don't know what you mean by "Are there any command-line arguments passed to firefox.exe?"...where would I find that? I looked under "details" and what was given was the path that 1Password had picked up before. I didn't write it down but it included "roaming" and I know where that location is. Is that a command-line argument? If it is...that's what's there when I click on the Profile button.
So...I have browse set to the Program Files folder with the Firefox exe and the profile default set to where my firefox profile is...still no extension for 1Password.
Thanks!Flag 0 -
