Firefox 8 - 1Password doesn't work

  • I see "roaming" as part of the path line when I click on the "profile" button. I'm not at home with my computer now, but it's a part of a long address that is the default for the profile (I didn't choose the location...it was already there.) The address includes the Users directory and is long...I can't see the end of the address because the window isn't resizeable.
  • Ok...I'm back home now <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' /> This is the part that I can see under Preferences, Browsers, Firefox Profile:

    C:\Users\my user name\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\...

It is checked off as "Default"

are you running any other extensions inside Firefox?

Those 2 extensions are available and running, aren't they?

I'm running out of ideas. Would a remote assistance session be an option?

Just for an added data point, the 1Password extension (firefox@1passwd.com) is installed in my only Firefox profile directory:
C:\Users\xxxxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\extensions
I have firefox@1passwd installed in 4 directories:

    C:\Users\xxxxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\extensions

    And also in:

    C:\Users\xxxxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\extensions\extensions

    And also in:

    C:\Users\xxxxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\extensions

    And also in:

    C:\Users\xxxxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\extensions

Could this be a part of the problem?
  • Frankly, extensions have been a problem with the last several Firefox updates. After updating to the new version each time, none of my extensions exist any more. I then reinstall them and even then they don't "appear" immediately. That's why I currently have only 2 extensions installed...it was getting to be a hassle to get them all going again with Firefox's rapid new release schedule!

I would love to look over your shoulder and see what is going on, because I'm running out of ideas. Can we schedule a remote assistance session?

You're saying Firefox extensions are often a problem for you. Another option is to completely uninstall Firefox from your system, reboot, and then re-install Firefox. It is a dumb move to suggest this from my part, but who knows. It might work.
  • Thanks for the offer Stefan...I need to think this over. Maybe I should do a delete/reinstall of Firefox. Do you know if just uninstalling will remove everything that should be removed or are there other files/directory that would need to be manually cleaned out after uninstall? It would be easy enough to import bookmarks/speed dial settings. Am trying to think what else I'd need to redo... (That's why I need some time to think it over before I uninstall or do anything drastic LOL!

Uninstall should keep all your settings and preferences. Let's try this first.
  • I just did an uninstall/install and it doesn't seem to be any different. When I uninstalled I chose to keep my settings & customizations...maybe I should choose not to keep them?

Yes, please try that now. Uninstall everything, then reboot, then re-install Firefox.
  • I'll have to wait until this evening to do that...work is beckoning <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
  • I uninstalled Firefox (including personal settings), rebooted and reinstalled. I reinstalled the 2 extensions that I had but now they're not showing up either!! You know what...Chrome is supposedly the #2 browser now and my extensions (including 1Password) are working in Chrome. I'm going to spend some time using it to see if I can live with it! Thanks for the help!
  • I just got a pop up with Firefox saying update 8.10 is available, should I update or wait?

I assume you're referring to Firefox 8.0.1. You can safely update to this version.
