Feature Request: Support for Opera 11

I have been a loyal 1PW user for a long time and LOVE IT. (h) I have one minor (I Think) suggestion...

Today I was having BIG TIME problems w/ one of my Facebook Games (MyTown).

Someone on their forum suggested that I try another browser. I had already downloaded Opera the other day b/c I was having trouble w/ Farmville (another game on FB) but I didn't end up using it until today.

Opera solved my problems w/my games but I was saddened to learn that 1PW v3 didn't have an extension for Opera!! ;(

I thought for sure when installed the last version on my new computer that I had seen an extension for Opera in the Preferences panel! Was I imagining things?

Can you please add this??? It will be a BIG HELP!!

Thanks for the help!

There have been a lot of requests for Opera support; try a search and/or see Similar Threads topics linked to at the bottom of this thread. :)

I wish we could, but unfortunately it's not possible at this time:

So what does this imply for 1Password support? Is this the type of support you've been waiting for to implement a solution?

Opera has just announced version 11 of their browser, this time with support for extensions. Of course my hopes for opera+1password surged again =) With the (relatively scarce) info that's out, do you think you will be able to support this next release?

    Hi MegaQ and mag,

    Welcome to the forums!

With little more than an announcement from Opera, we can't promise anything at the moment, but we are certainly open and willing to working with Opera in the future. (See the link that Gita posted above for more information on the current situation.)

This is an exciting first step. Let's hope it gets some traction and contains the necessary hooks for 1Password to work its magic. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_bigsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-D' />

Have you tried using Firefox instead?

I am not sure that just using another browser is the specific solution Opera users are looking for, but for the time being, it is the only option for 1Password integration since we do not currently have an Opera extension.
  • You have probably already seen this, but i'll post it anyway =) I'm really hoping things will work out with this new release <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

    Topic title = question.

I remember you guys saying some time ago, that due to the lack of extensions Opera support is impossible. Now it seems that Opera is finally hopping onto the extensions train as well ... any chances 1P will support Opera in the future too?

PS: I did use the search function, 'cause I expected all the Opera fans going crazy when hearing about the extensions in the next version. Somehow, however, this didn’t happen ... <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

    Hello om3ga777,

Thanks for letting us know this would be useful to you too. Check out the other posts in this thread for the latest. In the past, we have not supported alpha browsers, but we are evaluating 1Password support in Opera 11 as a possibility down the road. Thanks for your patience. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Hoping you will now be able to build 1Password for Opera, now that they are going to be supporting extensions in Opera 11....

  • If you add 1Password support to Opera 11, I promise you to promote 1Password in each and every Social Media channel I am subscribed.

I have already written a blog post about you already and I can do more. http://dottribes.com/blog/2010/10/2/using-a-password-manager.html

    Please, please!!

    Hi gacilu,

Wow, we really do appreciate the support there, but in all honesty, it's really too early for us to commit one way or the other to providing 1Password support for Opera 11. As you may know, Opera 11 is only in Alpha development right now which means it will be sometime before a final version is released in a stable form. Historically we've never supported Alpha versions of browsers, they're just too much of a moving target for our developers to keep up with, and even in the Betas this can be true as well, for example we've had to tweak our Beta extension for Firefox 4 several times to keep up with changes made by the Mozilla development team.

Please don't hear that as a 'no, we're not going to support Opera 11' but instead 'We're looking into our options, please be patient with us'. We're a fairly small development team so we really do have to carefully consider where we focus our development, and unfortunately we'll never be able to keep everyone happy, but we'll try our best to strike a fair balance that works for everyone.

Thanks to everyone who's so passionate to see 1Password in Opera 11, please watch this space and our blog over at http://blog.agile.ws as when we've got more to share you'll be the first to know <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
  • Just a quick update on the situation for us enthusiasts <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Opera is out in beta on http://www.opera.com/browser/next/

Lastpass has managed to implement their extension. Hope that means there is some hope you'll be able to do the same, at least when the final version of opera 11 is released.
  • khad
    khad Social Choreographer
We are making some changes "under the hood" that may make an Opera extension much more feasible than it ever was before. This on top of the fact that Opera has now added extension support without which a 1Password extension has simply not been possible in the past.

I can't make any promises, but we are hopeful. This is certainly on our radar. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Lastpass has been officially released for Opera 11 and there is no way 1Password won't follow. In fact I used LastPass to register and sign in automatically to this forum. I prefer 1Password over LastPass as it is more Mac centric and has a smoother UI.

If the folks over at LastPass got their password manager running which I believe to be inferior to 1Password then I can't imagine why we wont have at least a working beta in the next few weeks... <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/emoticon-0169-rock.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='(rock)' />

If you can not make an extension for Opera, is it possible to make the ability to export passwords from 1P to Opera

It's certainly possible to export your 1Password Logins information to an unencrypted file, but importing that to Opera would be an exercise left up to the reader. I have no idea if any version of Opera supports such a thing — every browser's built-in password manager seems to have their own way of importing and storage of that data.
Hi toeggi,

We can't make any promises, it only serves to raise false hope for our customers and the last thing we want to do is disappoint our customers when something is delayed or has been canceled for reasons out of our control. We believe in just delivering the features when it is ready to go, the agile style that we're known for. We also never say never to anything and anything is possible with us.

It is great to see that Opera 11 has been released, more competition in the browser market is a good thing and with the extension support, who knows what might come out.

Opera recently released Opera 11, now with extensions (https://addons.opera.com/addons/extensions/).

Will you try and make a 1Password extension for it sometime soon?

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum, my thoughts were that there might soon be a beta build with Opera support <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I hate to add to the extension workload, but Opera really feels ready for 1P. This is the first build I've tested that really feels *right*—the speed of Chrome without the resource hogging—and is really becoming my browser of choice. I have sharaholic & autopager exensions so all I'm waiting for is the 1P extension.

And thanks again for being so responsive & putting out an incredible piece of software!
