Firefox 3.6 crashes on Startup when 1Password extension is activated

I updated Firefox yesterday night and now it is completely broken. Crashes immediately after boot - I don't even see its window open up. However, I can't find any "WUARGL Firefox 3.6 doesn't work!!!11"-threads - so am I the only one having this issue?

I even once completely deleted Firefox with Amnesia to be sure it's the 1Password extension and not my Mac/Firefox itself ...

Any suggestions?

Any chance you can give us the crash log? I am running Firefox 3.6 with 1Password 3.0.4, no problems so far.

    Hi om3ga77,

no, you are not alone. Hi have the same problem with the actual Beta-8: Version 3.0.4 (build 30477)

Only deactivaiting ot the 1Password plug-in via the safety-mode does help me to start FF.

Apropos, I have several plug-ins that have the same effect: Xmarks 3.4.5., ReadItLater 2.0.3, Session Manager 0.6.7.4.

And yes, I can't also find any complains about this incompatibility with the FF3.6

    Hi Roustem,

I did a clean OS X reinstall, restored all TM-backups, installed FF 3.6 and now everything works perfectly. The Xmarks 3.4.5., ReadItLater 2.0.3, Session Manager 0.6.7.4 work now also.

    Thanks!

I have the same problem, but only on my new iMac; nothing's wrong on the MacBook.

I don't think that the origin comes from 1P: other FF plugins like Cooliris, PDF Plugin or Inquisitor, if activated, do not afford FF to start...

First I have to say, that it suddenly works. I used 3.5.7 again since submitting this thread but when I just read, that actually it should work, I just hit the Firefox in-app update button again. And suddenly it works - very strange, but I like it! :)

Hmm, don't know, if the still exist after deleting Firefox with Amesia? Where are they located and where should I send them, IF they are still there?

It worked for two days now and suddenly it doesn't, again.

Now even a complete uninstall doesn't help - without addon Firefox boots, after installing the Firefox extension of 1P it crashes again after startup. Even UNinstalling the extension doesn't help.

I had the exact same problem. Install FF3.6 few days back, everything works fine until today the symptoms suddenly appeared on 3.6 + 1P 3.0.2

    1. Delete profile and re-install FF, problem remain.

    2. Reliased there's an update 1P 3.0.4, after upgrade, problem still exist.

    3. Downgrade to FF3.5.7 with new profile, 1P works fine.

    4. Upgrade to FF3.6 (as what I did few days ago), FF3.6 crash again.

When writing you "had" the problem, does that mean you could fix it? At the moment I am using Safari but I miss a lot of features and I really don't want to pay for stuff that Firefox supports by default. So yes, I want my Fox back ...

    EDIT:

Slowly I wonder if this is really NOT related to 1P/Firefox 3.6 - I now restored my old Firefox 3.5.7 and installed 1P extension without any problems. I then updated with the Firefox built-in updater to 3.6 and everything is broken again? You sure, that 1P is 100% compatible to 3.6?

With a macbook pro (OS X 10.6.2), 1Password Version 3.0.4 (build 30477), Firefox 3.6 (english), I also encounter crashes when activating the browser extension.

Downgrading firefox or reinstalling OS X just for the hope of it, is not really an option.

Is there any solid information whether this is an extension only or a firefox problem?

    regards

Just on principle, I'd recommend downgrading to 1Password 3.0.4.

Could you try using 1Password's Help > Troubleshooting menu to Rebuild Data File? I have seen a few reports of this that included error logs where there were indications that this might be necessary.

well....I have been looking thorugh the different advice here as Firefox 3.6 simply refuses to start when having the extensions for 1Password installed. I have tried to disable extensions and rebuild the data file, but still Firefox will not start. After deleting Firefox completely and then reinstalling, it does start up. However when I try to install extensions for 1Password again, the same problem occurs. To me this clearly indicates that the extensions from 1Password are the problem. Any other ideas as to how this can be resolved? Im running on a Macbook Pro with SL 10.6.2

You may be right but no one on the team (including myself) have been able to recreate this issue.

It could be your Firefox Profile is remembering something from a previous install. Reinstalling Firefox will not recreate your Profile so if this is the issue your recent reinstall would not have helped. Please try Creating a new Firefox Profile and see if that helps.

    Hi,

I'm using Firefox 3.7a2pre Nightly a.k.a Minefield and since yesterday (I'm updating every day) Firefox crashes instantly on start and I found this in Console.app.

After uninstalling 1Password from the profile everything works fine. If you need more information just tell me what exactly you need.

When starting up Firefox 3.6 (downloaded from firefox.com) using 1Password 3.0.7 it starts, then immediately crashes. I am using snow leopard 10.6.2. The only way I was able to get Firefox 3.6 to start was to start firefox 3.6 in safe mode using the -safe-mode switch on firefox and disabling the 1password extension, no other extensions were causing issues. When I went into firefox after starting it in safe mode and tried to enable the 1password extension, I got the following error message displayed in terminal:

    Welcome to the forums spacemunkey!
When starting up Firefox 3.6 (downloaded from firefox.com) using 1Password 3.0.7 it starts, then immediately crashes.
This is a different issue than haltuerke reported as his issue was specific to the 3.0.8 beta.

What is weird is I have almost the exact same setup as you and am not seeing any of these warnings in the Console nor experiencing any crashes. I wonder if Firefox is caching something from a previous version? You can eliminate this possibility by completely uninstalling the Firefox extension and reinstalling it as follows:

Make sure Firefox is not running.

Launch 1Password from your /Applications folder

Click 1Password > Preferences > Browsers

Uncheck the box next to Firefox

Launch Firefox and click Tools > Add-ons > Extensions. Make sure that 1Password is *not* listed.

Step #5 is the most important step so I'll repeat it :) Launch Firefox and make sure 1Password is not there.

If 1Password is still loading in Firefox, go to Tools > Add-ons > Extensions and click the Uninstall button on the 1Password extension and quit Firefox.

Return to your 1Password window and check the box next to Firefox

Restart Firefox and click Tools > Add-ons > Extensions. Make sure that 1Password is listed.
After following these steps, the Firefox extension will have forgotten everything about previous versions. Please give it a try and let us know if it helps.

I was able to solve the problem by going into ~/Library/Application Support/1password and backing up the License and the Agile Keychain file to the desktop then deleted the folder, then went into ~/Library/Preferences and deleted the Agile Preferences files. I also deleted 1password from my /Applications folder then reinstalled 1password. After a completely fresh re-install of 3.0.7 it did not crash at all with firefox 3.6. I think it may have been some corrupted files from previous versions still hanging around in the Library folders. :-)

Does not work for me. I am using Version 3.0.8 (build 30531) and Firefox 3.6. I created new FF profiles and made a complete reset of all 1PW Prefs and deleted all Library files. Please help.

I'm, having the same issue on 3.0.9. If I install the extension then Firefox 3.6 dies. If I uncheck the box in 1PSW prefs and try to restart FF it still dies. I have to go into FF in safe mode and physically uninstall the extension for FF to start again. This only happened after I updated to 3.0.9 yesterday
