Mac App Store
in Mac
Hello,
I recently bought a license for 1Password for Mac from the official site.
From now the program is also available on the app store.
Is there a way to transfer the purchase from the App Store?
Possibly canceling the serial number you gave me and giving me a coupon code to the app store .....
Thank you very much

Same here.
Also what's the difference between the version in the App sotore 3.9 and the one in this site 3.8.4.BETA?Flag 0 -
Hi _accavacca_,
If you purchased 1Password within the last 30 days then please drop us a note at http://agilebits.com/contact_us along with your license key and we'll give you a full refund so you can purchase from the Mac App Store.
Coupon codes won't really be an option for 'transferring' licenses since the same 50 coupon limit applies to Mac App Store apps as it does to iOS apps.
I hope that helps,Flag 0 -
The above refund offer applies to everyone who's purchased in the last 30 days, of course.
Differences wise, to conform to Apple's specific rules for Mac App Store submissions, there are some significant differences between the application available from the AgileBits store in the past and what you'll get when you purchase 1Password from the Mac App Store.
While there are many changes under the hood, the things you may notice about the Mac App Store version if you have used 1Password for Mac before are:

Lion only.

Application "sandboxing" is in place for increased security and isolation from other applications. This places strict limits on what parts of your computer's hard drive(s) can be accessed. Only locations that Apple approves us to access are allowed.

Only one (1) 1Password data file allowed. You cannot switch between data files dynamically, either through 1Password preferences or by using the Finder.

You only have two choices of location for the data file: within the installed sandbox of the application or in Dropbox (see below).

If you choose to sync your 1Password data using the free Dropbox service, the 1Password data file must live in a fixed folder of your Dropbox storage and the Dropbox folder *must be* located in your OS X account's home folder.

The data file's name will always be 1Password.agilekeychain.

Several menu items have been removed for simplification, mostly from the Tools menu.

Having 1Password store its Master Password in your OS X keychain is no longer available.

All older integration support for 1Password has been removed. The only browsers that will work are Safari, Google Chrome and Firefox.

Deleting the 1Password application using LaunchPad will delete its sandboxed information -- your 1Password data as well -- unless you are using the Dropbox sync method.

Likewise for the 1Password data file backups: they will be deleted if you delete the application using LaunchPad.

Many of the 1Password Preference panes have been simplified.
That's the main differences covered, we'll be happy to answer any questions you have. Oh, one other thing to note is that because of the way the Mac App Store works you won't be able to use the Beta versions of 1Password, but for most users this won't be an issue.Flag 0 -
Yes, I just merged the two threads to help you find the information too, looks like you beat me to it.Flag 0

1. Make sure you have the latest version of 1Password installed by using 1Password > Check for Updates. This install the latest version of 1PasswordAgent process. The latest version will automatically remove itself when the Mac App Store version of 1Password is started.
2. Move old copy of 1Password.app to Trash.
3. Install 1Password from Mac App Store.
The important thing to keep in mind is that the Mac App Store version is sandboxed and has very limited access to your file system. It can only store data in its Container folder (~/Library/Containers/com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper/Data/Documents/1Password.agilekeychain) or in Dropbox.
If your data is already stored on Dropbox then 1Password will keep using it. If you data was stored in the previously default location (~/Library/Application Support/1Password) then it will be automatically moved into the Container.Flag 0 -
I'm somewhat confused .. I have been a long time 1P user .. am licensed for Version 3 (Currently running 3.8.4 Beta).
Never realized that 1P was on the Mac store till today and saw that 3.9 is available with a free upgrade to 4.0.
Does is make sense to purchase 3.9 from the App Store now? or should I wait till 4.0? or should I continue with upgrading via your web site?Flag 0 -
Hi rr0ss0rr,
Well the main thing to note is that 1Password just hit the Mac App Store today, so it's new to everyone <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
We haven't decided on the eventual plans on 1Password 4's upgrade route, all I can tell you is that you can get 1Password 3.9, with all the new Lion features, for $20 right now and that will also mean you'll get 1Password 4 through the Mac App Store when it's available.
I hope that helps,Flag 0 -
Thanks, Fooligan, we're all incredibly excited over here <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />Flag 0

The only problem with this procedure is that I need 1Password 3.8.4 to copy my iTunes password into the MAS! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />Flag 0 -
OK .. I decided to go with the App Store version .. But having an issue where 1P is now not recognizing my Master password .. I am using Dropbox, but the way I have it defined is that the Dropbox folder has unix link for 1Password.agilekeychain pointing to a folder outside of the Dropbox folder to where the 1P file is located (This should be transparent to 1P). It sounds like this will not work? Do I need to manually move this file to the 1P container (When I clicked to stop using Dropbox, 1P gave me an error moving the file), then tell 1P to use Dropbox so it will be moved correctly?Flag 0

Well, you could always use 1PasswordAnywhere for that <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

I have a feeling that's not going to work with the new rules with have from Apple, we won't have permission to access that location. The best option is going to be to move your data file to Dropbox itself, 1Password should then recognise it.

My very important question is:
Will 1Password 4 only available on MAS or both MAS and Agilebits Store?Flag 0 -
Yes. Our plan is to make 1Password 4 available only in Mac App Store.
I think this is an important thing to mention somewhere more visible than the forums. If 1Password 4 was going to continue to be available via traditional methods I would wait (as you have generally offered some cheaper upgrade paths and student discounts)...however if the app is ONLY going to be in the App Store then it would make sense to purchase it now at the 50% off price.Flag 0 -
And is there now any changes to how the licensing works for multiple users on the same MAC ? I can't find any references to the licensing in the MAS store.
Thanks

So basically, if we i a 1Password 3 license, i need to pay another $20 to get the MAS version and also get updates for 1Password 4 and beyond ?
I bought 1Password 2 months ago for $39.99 and now i need to pay another $20 ? I really like 1Password but another $20... (for limited time)

This works the same as all Mac App Store Apps. It can be installed on any computers you personally own that are associated with your iTunes account. Note that this does not apply to business purchases.

This is how software licensing works for most apps. You purchase a license for a particular major version (i.e., version 3). All version 3.x updates are free, and then there is an upgrade fee for the next major revision (i.e. version 4).
Anyone who purchased within the last 30 days can drop us an email for a full refund.
The price in MAS is a 50% discount. Essentially if you purchase 1P3 now, you are getting 1P3 for free and 1P4 at 50% of the original cost.
I'll add that we do not have a timeframe on when 1Password 4 might be available.Flag 0 -
I would also like a clearer answer, just to be sure I understand. Would it make sense for us current users to go ahead and pay the $19.99 now which is basically paying for us to get version 4.0? If 4.0 is going to be more than that and only available in the App Store, then I would say the answer is YES.
On a side note, I REALLY REALLY REALLY wish, Apple would develop a way for prior purchases to be recognized by the App Store so that we don't have to repurchase to get the App Store benefits. I guess in the very least, we have to wait for major releases like this to transfer over to this method. I just think of things like 1P, Scrivener, iWork, etc.....all bought prior to the App Store.Flag 0 -

Your current license of 1Password will work just fine with our 3.8.x versions of 1Password on both Snow Leopard or Lion, what you're effectively spending the $20 on is an upgrade to not only the eventual 1Password 4 but also the ability to have 1Password as part of your Mac App Store purchases.

Tim,
The Mac App Store simplifies licensing so much, basically Apple allow you to install 1Password on all your authorised Macs, just use the same Apple ID and you're all set. For example, I can use the same purchased license of 1Password from the Mac App Store on my MacBook Pro and our Family Mac Mini, letting my parents use 1Password too.
No more Family licenses to worry about, it's one of the reasons we're so happy to be in the Mac App Store now.Flag 0 -

I just hope there's another 50% off sale at some point for those ready to pay for an upgrade but not yet ready to upgrade to Lion. I get a notice when I attempt to upgrade that you must upgrade to Lion before purchasing this app through the MAS. OK then!Flag 0
