Mac App Store Installation Issues [SOLVED]

Kevin,
It appears that you had an older version of 1Password.keychain in the default location (~/Library/Application Support/1Password). When you installed the Mac App Store version, this copy was migrated into the container and 1Password started using it instead of the Dropbox file.
Try quit 1Password (and 1Password Helper) and then rename (or delete) this file: ~/Library/Containers/com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper/Data/Documents/1Password.agilekeychain.
If you restart 1Password, it should start using the Dropbox file.
Ok awesome....I think that got my Macbook working again.
So now......how can we move the datafile to a subfolder within Dropbox like before?

It could be. I sent the report to Apple and hopefully they will get back to us soon.
Just in case you want to try it, here is the command I found on discussion forums.
chmod -RN /var/db/launchd.db/com.apple.launchd.peruser.501/overrides.plist
Running that command fixed the problem for me!

This does fix the issue... it would help if you add the Containers to the complete removal docs... I would have fixed this hours ago.Flag 0 -

I don't think this is an appropriate reply. 1Password is a bit more important to our workflow than a word processor. I've done a COMPLETE REMOVAL and REINSTALLATION, and 3.9 locks me out of my keychain, which can be accessed from windows without a problem. No one from AgileBits has engaged me on this forum to do additional troubleshooting in the hours that I've spent here. It IS a serious problem with your release. Please help us use your product.

You keep getting this error?

Down loaded 1Password from App Store, Still had 3.8.* latest version running. Started MAS version, both running, opened preferences, pointed it to drop box, worked with all my passwords still there. The only issues, it dropped most of my tags, bummer, used them a lot, up side, gives me a chance to clean them up and it required the down load of previews, not a major problem, need doing anyway. Still haven't deleted the web site version, just in case.Flag 0

Okay, I took the plunge and installed 3.9 on my Dropbox machines.
First deleted 3.8.4 and installation went initially fine. On both machines 1Password.agilekeychain was in Users/Myname/Dropbox/1Password. On machine A 3.9 opened fine and found the 1Password.agilekeychain.
However on machine B it did not find the 1Password.agilekeychain and I had to check "Use Dropbox". 1Password then made a new (empty) 1Password.agilekeychain in Users/Myname/Dropbox/. so data was not in sync because of the different paths. I deleted this file.
I then put the Users/Myname/Dropbox/1Password on machine A also in Users/Myname/Dropbox and sync was fine again.
Question: Is there a possibility to put 1Password.agilekeychain in Users/Myname/Dropbox/1Password/ again ? <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Please check the messages in Console.app. Most probably you will see this error:
com.apple.AppSandboxSMLoginItemEnabler: FAILURE: Failed to write property list at /var/db/launchd.db/com.apple.launchd.peruser.501/overrides.plist. (The operation couldn't be completed. Permission denied)
Chmod command did not fix for me
Console still says Connection invalid, Failed to start 1Password blah blah blah
tried uninstalling then reinstalling
reinstall 3.8.5 works fine
restarted...
In the Containers folder, there is NO -helper folder
1password helper never launches in activity monitor

I think you missed the command. Please run this in the Terminal:
chmod -RN /var/db/launchd.db/com.apple.launchd.peruser.501/overrides.plist
Flag 0 -
So chmod -RN fixed this also for me. There is just one thing, before I used Dropbox in $HOME/somedir/Dropbox and everything was o.k. Now the Dropbox dir have to be directly in $HOME
Unfortunately, yes. Only the standard Dropbox configuration is supported.
Thank you for the update!Flag 0 -

And will be "non-standart" Dropbox configuration supported in one of cuter releases?
No, I do not think it will be possible because we specify the path when we request the sandbox exception. We do have an exception to read/write $HOME/Dropbox folder but it is not possible to request an exception for the folder if we don't know its location upfront.Flag 0 -

Is this a restriction from Apple? Where the Dropbox folder needs to be directly in your home folder?
Also, is it possible with the MAS version to place the datafile in a subfolder in the Dropbox folder? So like ~/Dropbox/1Password/1Password.agilekeychain
Right now, it's forcing on in the root of Dropbox folder.

Right now, 1Password is going to store its data only in the root. I wanted to make it as simple as possible.
If there is huge push to allow subfolders then we can do something about. However, I would rather be working on iCloud support now.Flag 0 -

Thanks for the answer. I look forward to seeing what you guys do with iCloud! Personally I don't care "how" it syncs....just as long as it's reliable.
I'll put my vote in to allow at a minimum, to have the datafile in a subfolder of DB called 1Password (to make it easy). I don't like a lot of files randomly cluttering up my Dropbox root.
I would also suggest that maybe a FAQ is posted with all these restrictions/changes. For example, going into this it would be helpful to know:
1) Dropbox folder MUST be in user folder
2) Datafile has to be in Dropbox root
Thanks for the support!

Yeah, I understand you. It would be perfect if you plan to support iCloud. I'm using dropbox only for 1pass sync and I missed sync with MobileMe.Flag 0 -
I'm currently at 3.8.5 and am about to switch...
Three questions:
First...I'm going to need to move my dropbox which is currently located at ~/documents/dropbox I assume I need to move it to ~/dropbox. What's the best way to do that? Just change the location from within Dropbox itself I assume, but if anyone could confirm, that'd be great.
Second, once the dropbox is moved, I assume a restart of 1P will cause some confusion because it won't know where the 1p datafile is. How do I re-link it to the dropbox datafile?
Third, is there anyway to determine whether I will be one of the unlucky users who have to muck around with Terminal to get things working again. Changing ACL attributes is way beyond my terminal skills and I'm a bit worried I will cause myself some serious trouble.
Much thanks...Flag 0 -
I was one of the new-to-1Password users that couldn't progress past the initial set Master Password screen because clicking Continue didn't do anything. I tried the chmod, but just got an error. I noticed my console log's Failure entry was almost identical to your chmod string, except my log indicated a number 503, rather than 501.
9/8/11 5:48:19.742 PM com.apple.AppSandboxSMLoginItemEnabler: FAILURE: Failed to write property list at /var/db/launchd.db/com.apple.launchd.peruser.503/overrides.plist. (The operation couldn’t be completed. Permission denied)
I had already repaired permissions and done everything else I could think of.
I changed the chmod to:
chmod -RN /var/db/launchd.db/com.apple.launchd.peruser.503/overrides.plist
to match my console error message, executed the line, restarted 1Password and it worked properly, accepting a Master Password and then Continuing to the unlock scree.
I'm not a software guy, so it may be obvious to everyone but me that one needs to modify the chmod string to match the console error (which does indeed seem obvious in retrospect). Cheers!Flag 0 -

Personally, I would move your DB folder first before upgrading. Then open 3.8.5 and point it at the new DB file location. Once 3.8.5 is working ok, then upgrade.
To move your DB folder.....yes, definitely do it from within Dropbox Menubar Icon -> Preferences -> Advanced. Let Dropbox move it for you. You DON'T need to create a Dropbox folder in your home folder first.....moving it Dropbox will create the folder.
FYI, the latest build for Lion is 1.2.31....you can get it here if you don't have it:
