Wow it just keeps getting worse.

Yesterday I could use the 1P pop-up panel to log onto my bank's website. It was clunky. Cumbersome and very very irritating but I could make it work.

Today. It does not work at all. Nothing.

    I. Have. To. Copy. And. Paste.

I hope this is NOT an indication of 1P's future.

And yes, I have the latest beta 27 and auto-updates.

And no I don't have any of the forbidden Safari auto-fill, etc…, elements turned on.

    The website is regions.com

I really hope this gets better very soon as I am loosing all patience and confidence.

    Hello donebylee,

I'm sorry you are having this issue on www.regions.com

I just tested a new login using the above URL, and I was able to auto Fill and Submit the username and password using the following methods:

    1. Double-clicking the saved login from within the 1Password desktop app.

    2. Finding and selecting the saved login from within the Safari extension in an open brewer (both while on the regions.com page and by selecting it from All Logins while on the Google home page)

    3. By using the Cmd-\ shortcut while on the regions.com page.

Since there were changes to the code in our latest Safari extension (Beta-27) which you are already using, please go to the regions.com page and re-save your login.

    To do this:

    1. navigate to www.regions.com

    2. copy your username and password, but do NOT click submit.

    3. open the Safari extension by clicking on the 1P icon, and click "Save Login"

Once you've re-saved the login, please try it again and let me know if it works.

    Thanks!

    Hey again donebylee,

I'm disappointed to hear that the re-save didn't work. There must be another underlying issue.

To help us track down the issue more quickly, could you please email us your Diagnostics Report? To generate the report from 1Password on your Mac, open 1Password and select Help > Troubleshooting > Diagnostics Report. Then attach the entire file to an email addressed to support@agilebits.com.

Please include a link to this thread in your email message so that we can "connect the dots."

I'm hoping there will be an "obvious" reason pointed out in the Report. Please reply back to this thread when you've sent it, so we'll know to hunt it down in the queue.

Before creating the Report, please try uninstalling the Safari extension, closing Safari, and then reinstalling the extension. That will eliminate one of the common causes for the behavior you are experiencing.

    Thanks for your patience.

    OK, reinstalling the extension worked.

HOWEVER, I had already done that earlier today.

This is getting to be a multi-times per day requirement.

Yesterday to keep it working I had to reinstall 3 times.

    This has got to end.

Having to constantly login to 1P.

    Having to constantly troubleshoot.

Having to constantly read this thread to keep up with what is wrong now.

Having to reinstall multiple times per day.

If I had voluntarily signed up to beta test, I would accept this as an unfortunate but understandable part of it.

    BUT I DID NOT.

I thought I was getting the usual good software from Agilebits.

Instead I am here, using my time to fix something that should not be broken.
  • Do we have to reinstall the extension daily for the master password to work?

Or is that only for when you push out an update to the extension?

Yesterday I reinstalled the extension 2 times to fix the master password problem.

Today I tried to log into ebay, the huge popup thing asks for my my master password, I type it in, hit return

and nothing. When I say "nothing" that means it does not log in.

Then you can't get this huge ugly password asking window out of your way unless you click on the 1P icon.

Guess we are all now Beta Testers.... WHEEEEEEEE

I am going to bookmark this forum now, since it's my most visited website now.

    Developing Stockholm Syndrome over this.
  • I have been a happy user of 1Password for years. Unfortunately, I am questioning the value of your solution with Safari under Lion. The new UI is completely non-intuiitive to me. Based upon the feedback in this forum it is clear that I am not alone in that position. I cannot see using 1Password unless you address the usability.

    donebylee,

I'm glad reinstalling the extension worked, but you should not have to constantly be reinstalling. Even when we push an update, if you have "Install Updates Automatically" checked on the Safari > Preferences... > Extensions tab, you shouldn't even be required to manually update...let alone reinstall.

There were two updates released yesterday, and I'm hoping that is part of the explanation for the constant reinstalling you are having to endure. You are the only user that I, personally, have heard who is having to do this. I will inquire with the rest of the team and see if others are experiencing the same issue.

Regardless, you had already reinstalled the extension earlier and still had the same issues, so I'll have to investigate further with our developers.

In the mean time, I'm sorry that you are having this trouble, and I am sure it is frustrating you. I'll do what I can to find the cause quickly.

Sorry to say it but I really don't like the new extension and I mean *really*. I'm sure y'all put a lot of time and effort into it but I'm a "if it ain't broke don't fix it guy." The former (pre-Safari 5.1) extension worked much better and looked much nicer. Perhaps I'm just overdosing on iOS GUI elements but I really don't want iOS on my desktop. And yeah, Lion bugs me in a similar way too but I can neuter Lion. I have to live with this extension with the unappealing (to me at least) GUI, clunkiness and hangs. Really guys, putting a "beta" into your shipping product via an update is just kinda sneaky too. I don't run beta anything on my production machines.

I'd really love to have a choice between old and new even if old is deprecated and any new features go into the new format. It'd work better with my workflow and not make me cringe whenever click the "1P" button.

And...as a Camino user the disappearance of a "1P" extension for Camino also irks me. I don't use Chrome, have no desire to use Firefox either. I use Safari and Camino and having to switch applications, copy, switch again and paste to use 1Password with Camino is also a butt pain. If this never worked I wouldn't complain but given that Camino used to be supported and isn't any longer is another bee in my bonnet.

I used to rave about 1Password and would easily give you guys "5 stars". I thought it rocked when y'all started sponsoring 5by5 too. Right now though I'm giving 1Password "4 stars", mostly based on what it once was...if I were a newbie I'd give you "3 stars", and am considering looking for another solution that fits the way I work better. Sometimes new and shiny isn't necessarily better.

    To quote Merlin Mann..."so disappointed."

Look I am not trying o be a jerk about this, but if you read the entry only two above yours, you would see that others ARE having this problem.

And what does it say that the most consistent advice in this thread is to REINSTALL the extension?

I have been a big 1P fan for quite a while. I have whole heartedly recommended your apps. I own Knox too.

So this is not coming from a chronically disgruntled customer. I was a happy customer.

I am hoping to be again.

Hello Tom D and welcome to the Forums!

There has certainly been a lot of passion regarding the new Safari UI.

Chrome users tend to not have a problem with it, because it mirrors the extension they've used. FF and Safari 5.0 users tend to dislike it. As a former user of the old Safari 5.0 1P icon menu drop down, I do understand both sides.

We are listening to customer feedback and doing our best to implement any changes that are allowable/efficient under the new Safari API rules required with Lion.

We certainly do not want to lose you as a customer! I hope the security provided by 1Password to your data will buy us enough time to come up with a browser extension solution that you find more acceptable.

I'm sorry that I do not have a better answer for you at this time. Please continue to check back for updates.

    Cheers!

  • Hi Brandt,

Read your response to Tom D. If the answer eventually becomes "suck it up" my response will be, well, not printable. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' /> There are myriad things to like about Lion but some of the GUI changes Apple seems to be making isn't one of them. I know that Agile is limited by what Apple allows but good application design dictates that the application should not get in the way of the workflow. Right now 1Password is getting in the way of my workflow such that I (seriously) may just revert to Keychain for my web logins and move my other secure stuff to an AES-256 encrypted disk image. That does limit my ability to have one repository for Mac and iDevices but this will only be a great hinderance on iPad.

I'll give y'all time to sort it out, and I hope you do, but getting used to it isn't on the table as an option. Neither is switching browsers. Ugh.

I've already informed our developers of your experience, and I posted a link to this thread so that each can come here to review your experiences. As I stated in my last reply, this should NOT be happening!

When weird behaviors like your's occur, it is a big deal to me and the team to get to the bottom of it.

So, please know that we appreciate the details you've provided, and that we are looking into the issue as I type. I've been in your situation with other software, and I about went ballistic, so your frustration is not falling on deaf ears.

    Hi Jay,

I hope the answer never even resembles "suck it up". I would be irritated by that too, and I suspect we'd both have similar phrases popping into our heads, but hopefully not leaving our mouths. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Your comment regarding workflow is absolutely spot on! A great application must be beautiful on the inside and the outside. With regards to the new rules imposed by Lion and the new Safari API, the rules are relatively new. In addition, Apple was allowing the Scripting Additions that we used to create the Safari 5.0 and other Webkit-based extensions, but decided to pull support while well into Beta testing.

When that happened, all the effort put into migrating our Safari 5.0 extension went out the window. Not trying to make excuses here. Just want to explain that the rules changed mid-way through the game, and we had to start from scratch and still meet the Lion release deadline. As you and others are painfully aware, there have been learning pains as the devs work through the new API and have to find ways to replicate what was so popular with many users, me included, with our previous extension.

I know that everyone is working overtime to figure out what can and cannot be done to improve the user experience. This includes looking at the UI, form filling code, etc.

I appreciate your willingness to give us some time, but I do understand that if your workflow continues to be degraded, you'll be forced to consider other options. When I told Tom D. that I would hate to lose him as a customer, I meant that in a very sincere way. However, in the past, I've thrown up my hands with certain software upgrades, so I do empathize with what you are stating. When I moved to Office 2007 from 2003, my workflow stopped dead in it's tracks. I was about as happy as you are now. Refer back to my first sentence for more details. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I hope the near future brings the types of changes that will make a material impact on your ability to use 1Password the way you need/want to. Based on our past history of meeting challenges, I have confidence that we will pass the current "test".

    Hello gmill,

I hope the reinstalls were due to the two updates we pushed yesterday, and are not a constant requirement as experienced by donebylee. If it is constant, please let us know. You would be the second user to report this and we'll want to know more details about your system so that we can compare with donebylee's and look for the cause.

Regarding the issue where you typed in the Master Password into the 1Password extension, but nothing happened. We've received reports of this behavior from other users, and in many cases, the cause was due to running Safari in Private Browsing mode. If this was the case in your situation, please turn off Private Browsing, close Safari. When you restart Safari, you should not experience the Master Password non-response problem. If you weren't in PB mode, and/or turning off PB and restarting Safari does not fix the problem. Please let us know that too.

With regards to your statement that "we're all Beta Testers", for those users who want to use the features "fixed" in the recent BETA versions, you are correct.

    Hi Brandt,

Thanks, I was (at one time) as software developer so I really do understand what goes into all of it and so am careful to not let my visceral reaction reach the keyboard. I also understand Apple's...um...precociousness with sudden changes. Some of us were heavily working on ZFS stuff when Leopard was supposed to have that. In any case...Apples penchant for (sometimes) baseless change is why I use both Safari and Camino. If I still had 1Password access in Camino 2.0.7 I probably just would've switched over and been done with it.

I did do some poking around using OmniWeb since it's WebKit (=Safari 5.0.5) and still supports the "old" format. iCab does too but only half-heartedly. One thing I noticed that is missing from the latest Safari extension is the "1P" button on a browser authentication page. These are the ones triggered by .htaccess and the like. I have a few I access that have this and it was very convenient for me. It doesn't work in Safari, which is probably contributing to my curmudgeonliness. I didn't mention it earlier as I have been having (very) intermittent problems with the beta extension not working for me (not taking the master password) and have been working with 1Password open. So...I'm going to assume that losing Scripting Additions also caused this and it ain't coming back. Bummer because switching there is a right pain in the pituitary.

In summary, losing authentication panel access to 1Password is my biggest pain point. Not having 1Password in Camino at all any more (c'mon, it's the Gecko engine same as Firefox) means I don't have a fallback. My GUI nits at least aren't serviceability impacting and so are less functionally painful though some passwords are no longer offered and I have to dig or do the switch, copy, switch, paste dance. The fact that the extension is a beta I understand in the context of the last minute change by Apple. Still, doesn't make it any more pleasant.

    Jay,

Thanks for the reply. I suspected you had some development experience in your blood. Your frustrations were real, but your comments appeared to be tempered by an insight into what goes on behind the scenes. It's not always pretty, is it? <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I respect your perspective, and I appreciate you providing additional details on how you use our app and others. Utility to the user is tantamount to success, and a description of common usage is extremely valuable. Based on your current mix, I can see that you are between a rock and a hard place. Furthermore, as you mentioned, the fact that Apple changed the rules does not make it any less pleasant.

So, it is incumbent on AB to do our best to move the rock! I'm pretty sure Apple won't remove the hard place. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Thanks again for your replies. They have been beneficial to me, and I will pass along your usage info to the rest of the team.

I won't make any predictions regarding future functionality, but I'm comforted by the fact that two updates were pushed yesterday. Hopefully, that fact will indicate to you and other users that we are indeed keeping the candle lit well into the night, and that we won't make users wait any longer than we have to.

  • Bank of America small business login no longer works.

When I try to login the first login, looks like it's working, but it does not log you in and takes you to a search page.

Very strange. Since I have 3 accounts, having to manually copy paste user names to get past the first login page, kinda sucks.

It worked in the good version of 1P.

    Any ideas?

On that one I have to say that you’ve gone horribly wrong on the new pop-over. It is more eye candy than anything usable. As a long time, and a happy one, 1Password user I am really disappointed with the new extension. It really is horrendously cumbersome and slow to use compared to the old drop down. It might look pretty but it really does make logging in a pain. Not to mention generating a password etc.

Bank of America small business login no longer works.

When I try to login the first login, looks like it's working, but it does not log you in and takes you to a search page.

Very strange. Since I have 3 accounts, having to manually copy paste user names to get past the first login page, kinda sucks.

It worked in the good version of 1P.

    Any ideas?

    Hello again gmill,

I have a Bank of America account too, and I noticed this behavior earlier today.

I will play around with the newest Safari 5.1 extension and see if I just need to resave my previous logins, or if there is another issue.

I'll report back with my results.

    Thanks for reporting.

Hello vmaatta and welcome to the Forums!

Thanks for your feedback. As you've no doubt read, other users have expressed similar feelings.

As I've mentioned in previous posts, the Safari extension is still in Beta testing, which means that additional changes are likely.

I do not have any information regarding what changes or when, but please stay tuned.

Specific detail regarding the likes and dislikes of the UI are very important to us. If you have additional particulars that you wish to share with us, please do.

    Cheers!

That was quick <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />. One of the things that I miss from a drop down workflow is that of just holding the mouse on opening the drop down and lifting on “Login”. Little things… Btw, now that I wanted to test the login again I noticed that I could not login to Nordnet. Had to copy-n-paste.

    Hey vmaatta,

    Thanks for your quick reply! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I appreciate the specific example. I can tell you that many other users have requested that functionality be added back, and I know that the developers are investigating if it's possible.

Also, thanks for the Nordnet link. I just tested it on my system, and I was able to get it to work. This gives me hope!

We just released a 1Password update a few minutes ago, so please check for updates and install the newest version. The version number is 3.6.5.BETA-4 (build #31073). When you've installed it, please check Safari to ensure the 1P browser extension is our latest: 3.6.5.BETA-28

Please let us know if the update works for the Nordnet site. If it does not, please try re-saving the login first.

    Cheers!

Add yet another formerly very happy customer who happens to be VERY disappointed with the new version. And while I understand that a lot of changes are forced upon you by Apple, I still have to complain.

My biggest one is the way "Go and Fill" behaves now. My previous workflow consisted on opening multiple pages in succession taking advantage of the way "Go and fill" operated, creating a new tab and log me in automatically. Now, first I have to manually open a tab, call up that not-so-practical window, press tab to go to "all logins", start typing and hope that on enter 1Password will launch the website and log me in.

Also, it seems now that there is no distinction between "Go and Fill" and "Fill login" shortcuts. Both popup the list of usernames for the current site, but "Go and fill" shouldn't, it's "Go and fill" after all. Sigh.

    My workflow is so messed up <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />
  • What have you done to this [previously] great piece of software?

I totally dislike the new Safari extension v3.6.5-beta 4), which has significant limitations over the previous [pre-OSX Lion] versions and bearing in mind the safari extension is the main interface used whilst browsing, this causes a number of issues!

    - when being prompted to save a password for a website, there is no option to update/replace an existing entry

    - a new entry is always therefore created for each saved website password, regardless of whether there's already an entry there! This causes multiple entries which make it difficult to know which is current when selecting through the extension!

    - dislike new interface, what's wrong with the old drop down menu? It worked, it was clear and simple. The new interface is/does neither!

Is this a case of AgileBits 'evolving' their software for the sake of it? I can certainly state that the existing changes are not benefiting me in any way and only make me question the usefulness of the product. I've been using it for a long time and consider it one of my core applications across all compute platforms, however it's usefulness has just taken a big hit, because of this interface and inability to update existing entries.

I hope that future changes will see these issues resolved!

Whatever you are doing with extension and updates, it is not working for me.

I had to, yet again, delete it and reinstall it.

Please. Please. Please. For the love of good customer relations, fix it.

Whenever you update the extension, you break it.

    I am sick of reinstalling.

    Please.

    Hi Brandt,

Ugh.

I agree with the above. In fact I'm getting quite sick of the constant, flippant and off handed remarks buy mostly the "staff" of Agile in this and other threads about how much people "love" the UI in Chrome. Well guess what? I don't give a damn about how much people that use Chrome "like or love" the UI. We in this thread (that is clearly labeled "Safari 5.1") don't use Chrome. We use Safari for a reason; it's clean, intuitive and functional work flow. No matter how much spin you guys try to put on the "beauty" of the new UI, I and others feel it is an ugly, bloated and useless extension. It was obviously designed by someone other that the people that designed the original program because it has none of the beauty or elegance of that design. If we want something that looks and functions like Windows or Chrome we would be using it already. I realize that Apple is forcing change on your design and function but they are not forcing you to use a Chrome looking extension on Safari.

If people like the look and function of the UI on Chrome that is great for them but don't force us Safari users to suffer because of them. I know you don't want to hear this but you need to throw the entire new UI away and start over to give us something close to what we had in Safari before. While I have full confidence that you will get 1Password functioning again, at this point I have almost zero confidence that you are willing to change the UI. Please prove me wrong.

P.S. Agile staff - If you want more civil postings from people you need to quit stoking the fire with all the Chrome references and the explicit or implied "suck it up", "get used to it I did", "you guys are just a bunch of cry babies"etc. You have to realize several of us use your software in our daily businesses to earn a living and at this point you have severally crippled that usage. I personally have over 450 items in 1Password. This is not a joke to us, it affects our livelihood.

I don't like the new design... I don 't want iOs on my Mac.

I also miss the german localization.

The old version was much better..
