You mean like you have to for the Windows version?
I think that point has been made a number of times in this thread. Please take a look at the volume in the Windows forum compared to the Mac forum. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />Flag 0 -

I think we've outlined a number of times our reasoning for going to a MAS only model. Right now the biggest complaints I'm seeing are regarding the browser extensions. We'd like our developers to be able to focus their time on those, rather than licensing, maintaining servers, etc.
My biggest complaint isn't that it is MAS-only (which certainly does have some big drawbacks) or that it costs more money (even though your 3.x license is supposed to entitle you to a 3.9 upgrade for free). Even though the timing is very poor in my opinion given the current state of the browser extensions and how close it is to the 4.x version (in version #s, not time) the #1 complaint I have is the Lion-only requirement when Lion was released less than 60 days ago.
I'm going to recommend a book for all of you to read.

It's actually a great read for anyone who likes computer nostalgia.Flag 0 -
Agile still forces their customers to buy the software they already have with less functionality again by frightening them that they have to pay more for Version 4 when they do not act today. To even make more pressure, they increased the price already a little, to make us all frighten even more.
AgileBits went MAS only like Lemmings. We all will suffer when the MAS is the only way to install SW. The day will come when we have to jailbreak Mac OS X to be able to install the SW we like to install.Flag 0 -

No one is forcing anything and "frightening" is a perception that you cannot verify beyond your own perception. I'm a bit perplexed by how you Paranoid and Mangoes tend to think every Agile customer thinks and responds just
like you. We are not automatons here. Each of us perceives actions that happen in different ways so when you load up your posts with a bunch of pejorative adjectives in the hopes of making a statement you really fail.
How do you know how the thousands of members feel? Did you take a survey? Why aren't there hundreds of different people agreeing with your posts
Almost 30 pages here and the statement from Agile seems pretty clear.
1. 1PW 3.9 is Lion only
2. Version 4.0 is slated to be MAS only but Agile retains the right to change this policy if necessary
3. The new browser architecture in 1PW has limited some functionality but should make the program more adept at handling browser changes in the future
4. Some features were shelved until more secure features can be delivered.
Sometimes you just have to wait and let things play themselves out. If the Mac App Store isn't the solution then Agile will move in a new direction
incessantly complaining about it and pretending your views represent the masses isn't the way to communicate with the company in my opinion.Flag 0 -

Astonishing isn't it? Dropping platform support on a point release?

Only if we keep the pressure on. Responses from Agilebits so far are clearly under the influence of the MAS Kool-aid.

"should", "in the future" leaps of faith I'm just not prepared to take with Agilebits anymore.

some of these features could not have waited until 4.0?

Sorry I can't sit by so passively as Agilebits continue with these types of decisions regarding one of my (once) favourite and most personally evangelised apps. Further, I don't think anyone's pretending their view represent the masses apart from Agilebits. Best choice for all involved indeed.Flag 0 -

1Password 3.9 is a different branch of the 1Password 3 code. 1Password 3.8 still supports the same features that 3.9 does and is still compatible with Snow Leopard.

I imagine actual, verifiable sales figures will be the main factor rather than powdered drink mix. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
If you are correct, we'll be out of business soon enough. We are pretty agile, though, and willing to adjust every day as we move forward. 1Password has been around for over 5 years, and we are working to make sure it is around for 5 more…and beyond!

Okay folks, I think this thread has run its course. At this point it is 30 pages long which is far too long to expect anyone to read before posting a question.
Hopefully everyone has had a change to say their peace, and I would like to thank you all for your participation. It is great having a community surrounding your product. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
